Hi all. I've finally taken the plunge. I've avidly followed the last two threads and swore to myself when the next one started (this one) i would 'out' myself.
To be honest i feel like an imposter and that i'm still only at the begining stage of crocheting and in some ways i am, only been crocheting 3 years or thereabouts so still a relatively newbie. But I get loads of satisfaction reading through what you all do and the gorgeous pics, so here i am. I may not post as regularly but i really enjoy the camaraderie and support and ideas offered up. Anyhoo off to try and do some more rows on the blanket i'm making. But it has a been a pleasure reading this thread and long may it continue to be so.

mumsie8 · 03/06/2022 17:15

Would also like to add my heartfelt best wishes and sincere condolences from one stranger to another for the losses i've read about here and the hard times gone through. Flowers

Fairislefandango · 03/06/2022 17:20

Yayyy - well done for de-lurking @mumsie8! You are most welcome. What kind of blanket are you making?

I'm currently working on my Cornish Pixie. I've just attached his eyes, so he looks a bit less... ummm... phallic than he did Blush.

Welcome @mumsie8 I think a picture of your blanket is needed Grin

I'm forcing my crojo and finishing the frog hat. Then I need to make hairbands as my brother/sister in law have said they'll put them on their stall at a massive craft fayre they're doing in July.

Fairislefandango · 03/06/2022 17:24

Well done @CrochetBug - I guess sometimes it's a case if 'fake it till you make it' with crojo and all kinds of mojo!

Yay, hello @mumsie8 ☺️ you call yourself a newbie but you've still been crocheting longer than I have! I'd also like to know what sort of blanket you're making? ☺️ and don't feel like an imposter at all!

mumsie8 · 03/06/2022 19:47

Blush well i can't read patterns so i make blankets by following you tube tutorials. I got the inspiration from one of the comments on a previous thread where someone mentioned Tree of Life. So my crochet interest was piqued and i googled it and i loved it!!! But i didn't think i had the skill set at the time to make it, so i didn't for about a year. I just kept ploughing through other styles and patterns and stitches.

Eventually though i thought stuff it and i went and did it!!! But i always do it with a twist because i can never be bothered to do the flowers for the middle section of it. So i sort of make that bit up as i go, then i do the last panel in trees again. I'm onto my 3rd or 4th variation of it right now and also my biggest because i did an extra set of trees, so it's def a marathon i'm running with this one, not a sprint.

Phew. I have verbal diarrhoea, i may never shut up!! Blush

Thanks for all the warm welcomes and if i can work out how to post a picture i will at some point. Grin

He reminds me of Groo for some reason from guardians of the galaxy. Definitely not as phallic looking as he could have been. Grin

Hey all can I join? It is lovely to hear about your projects. I haven't read the previous thread sorry...
I have been knitting on and off for years but really got back into it in lock down 1 and made a cardie and a jumper (from a chart which was new to me) plus many baby hats etc!
Then I decided to teach myself to crochet which I love. I haven't crocheted anything big but I love the 3D stuff and have done a lot of that. Animals for the kids (and my mum), cacti for the kids for Xmas (as a joke as they managed to kill their real ones....) and a fruit and veg box for my sis in law.
However I am currently knitting again and just over half way through a blanket. I am knitting one each for DS1 and his GF so they can take one each to uni. Same pattern but different colourways of Sirdar Jewelspun. However DS1 now on study leave for A levels so progress has ground to a halt because they are a surprise! Luckily he is away or working most of the summer so I have some time.
Also mostly knitted another cardie for me but at the stage where I need to pick up for the neckband and I hate those bits...I never seem to get it even.

MerylSqueak · 03/06/2022 20:49

Welcome new people!

I haven't got very far with my jumper because DD decided she wanted to learn to knit. Yay!

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 03/06/2022 21:48

Welcome @mumsie8 and @Lottsbiffandsmudge! Smile Nice to have you on board!

I do love that drops alpaca silk @MerylSqueak Depending on what you wanted, there’s a website where you can put in your gauge and measurements and it’ll work the pattern out for you - knitanything.com/ You can pick your neck type and sleeve type and patterns are free at the moment. If you want to use up your stash it’s probably the easier way!

Impressive @tizwozliz I think it would take me about 10 years to do a blanket!

He’s looking perfectly respectable @Fairislefandango Grin

I chucked some placemats I wove using Drops I ❤️ You cotton in with the tea towels on a 60*C wash and tumble dried them. They’d make nice placemats for kids tea parties now, they shrank so much. Oops. Learn from my mistake anyone using that yarn😄

Fairislefandango · 03/06/2022 22:06

I was wondering who his face was reminding me of, @mumsie8 , and you're dead right, it was Groot! Intrigued by the sound of your tree of life - must have a look for that. Looking forward to a pic if you manage to post one!

Yay another newbie - welcome @Lottsbiffandsmudge ! Sounds like you've been very productive with your knitting and crochet!

@MerylSqueak - I love your yarns, especially the Drops Wish one.

@SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound - FIL says I should order the flyer for my spinning wheel. I was holding off spending the money in case the wheel wasn't going to end up being usable, but he seems happy with whatever he's done to it so far. The other spare parts should arrive in a few days hopefully.

Oh that’s exciting @Fairislefandango! You could be ready in time to join in with the Tour de Fleece this year by the sound of it 😃 I always have good intentions but never manage to spin every day of the race.

Fairislefandango · 03/06/2022 22:27

Shock Tour de Fleece? <googles>

OP posts:
SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 03/06/2022 22:55

It runs alongside the Tour de France, for each day’s cycling you spin then have the rest days off! There’s teams you can join or you can just do it yourself for the craic. Some people take it very seriously and spin absolutely loads, I’m in awe of them but not willing to wreck myself making the attempt 😂

mumsie8 · 03/06/2022 22:56

Not the tree of life blanket but another one i have crocheted in the past.

Hmmm Hmm not sure if my pic uploaded there.....

CrochetBug · 03/06/2022 23:01

Wow @mumsie8 that's beautiful!

CrochetBug · 03/06/2022 23:01

Wow @mumsie8 that's beautiful!

Thank you so much. I've spent my life feeling shit at everything but crocheting has allowed me to achieve some really pretty things i didn't think i could. (Still can't knit though much to my frustration 😉)

Fairislefandango · 04/06/2022 08:05

That's gorgeous, @mumsie8 ! The 2 crochet blankets I've made have been in different stitches like that one, but I used multiple colours. I really like the look of it in all one colour, and such a nice colour too! You are a very neat crocheter.

I like the sound of the Tour de Fleece, @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound ! Dh and his family are cycling fans and always watch the Tour de France.

Must get that flyer ordered. Also, how many bobbins should I have?

OP posts:
SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 04/06/2022 09:22

That’s lovely @mumsie8!

I started with 3 and then bought a 4th so I could do 3plys @Fairislefandango. I know you can chain ply from one bobbin to make a 3ply but I find it hard to get the right level of twist that way. You can get cool 3d printed ones btw, although they’re more expensive than the unfinished ones www.etsy.com/uk/listing/766880079/ashford-standard-single-drive-3d-printed

MerylSqueak · 04/06/2022 09:52

Lovely blanket @mumsie8 I love a bit of texture me.

Thank you for that website @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound. Off for a nosie.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 04/06/2022 10:40

Welcome to the newbies 😊

Beautiful blanket @mumsie8

We’re away for the weekend camping so limited space in the car but made sure my crochet came with me. I’ve been working on the Day Tripper CAL for my mum. My granny squares are all a bit wonky but hardly surpassing when they’ve all been done in the passenger seat as we drive.
