Creating bad feeling on Arts & Crafts....

UCM · 17/06/2006 19:12

The person who did this knows exactly who they are. What I would like to know is why spoil it for other crafters. A fellow crafter asked for advice speedily and I gave it, having used exactly the set that would have helped. I also knew that if they needed it quickly they would have got it. Luckily they have now been and got what they needed. No thanks to the jealous, small mindedness of someone on here. I shop all over the place for Arts & Crafts stuff and not in one place. I would have no qualms about recommending the cheapest on here. As someone has quite rightly pointed out today Tescos & Asda are doing craft stuff now. Will you report that post as it's unsolicited advertising. No I didn't think so. Just recently I have been to absolute hell & back in RL - proper and utter hell. I have learnt that life is far too short to be nasty because what goes around really does come around.... No more on this subject from me.

arts and crafts is a wonderful fluffy topic. no one is allowed to be nasty here.
i dont know what this is all about, but whoever was nasty should apologise. and take their negative feelings elsewhere.
a&c is all about arts and crafts and fun. and warm good feelings. relaxation.
fluffy pink bunnies.

UCM · 17/06/2006 19:23

I was reported for recommending a site for craft stuff that was cheaper than elsewhere & I have used the particular stuff before so I know it was what the person needed. WTF. I am never recommended anywhere again now.

UCM · 17/06/2006 19:24

I apologise. I DID say no more. ZIP!

arts and crafts has lots and lots of recommendations. we all recommend stuff we have used. there is a lot of reporting going on right now. i have been reported coz my opinion differed from someone elses.
if mn towers dont want people recommending stuff and places then they need to ban arts and crafts, and products threads. the entire nature of these threads is at issue if we are not allowed to recommend where we got some particular item.

so please dont stress about this. we all love you. some snotty person is just plain Envy of the lovely stuff you make.Smile

oh no!! ucm, like many of you guys, i use crafts to escape from lots of rl stuff.
dont let this bother you. I dont know what's gone on but lots of us make recomendations for craft sites. I dont know what the best way forward for these kind of things is but just hate bad feelings on A&C

moondog · 17/06/2006 19:34

Take a deep breath UCM. Smile
Are you sure you haven't got wrong end of stick.
I recommend loads of products/companies/shops.
We all do!!!

champs · 17/06/2006 19:35

i just posted a whole list of links fo AQ :(

UCM · 17/06/2006 19:44

Need to shut up, need to shut up. Can't help it though.

Not this Time Moondog as I know I have got it arse about face in the past. I have been 'told off' by MN Towers for it. I have the email saying that there are several complaints from......

OP posts:
katzg · 17/06/2006 19:49

do you know who complained?

seems kinda strange - people recommend stuff all the time

foxinsocks · 17/06/2006 19:50

when someone reports your post does it tell you who has complained (so do you know who it was)?

jenk1 · 17/06/2006 19:58

thats a bit pathetic, who would report someone for recommending a website/product?

PATHETIC Angry

poppiesinaline · 17/06/2006 20:00

Shock there are recommendations of places on here all the time. I am a little confused as to why you were ticked off UCM. :( Now I am a little scared to recommend anything >

mousiemousie · 17/06/2006 20:02

I love it when there are personal recommendations...seems a bit weird to ban it, doesn't it?!!

SaintGeorge · 17/06/2006 20:12

Sorry to butt in (my old moderator head, I can't help it).

UCM - if the email from HQ specifies that a particular person has made several complaints then why not take the matter up with them in private? Surely posting this thread is just going to stir more bad blood.

The only time I have known links to be removed before is when they are risque/obscene (hmm maybe not on A & C!) or self-promoting. It is one thing to post a single link to a national company and recommend them - it is another entirely to post repeated links to say, your own shop. MN charge for advertising and I can understand why they remove those type of links.

I am not saying your links were either of those but I am sure there is more to this than meets the eye. Maybe you need to consult with MNHQ and find out exactly what is going on and their opinion of the matter.

I do however think this thread is more likely to stir bad feeling or cause mistrust and upset than the deletion of any links in the first place.

peachyClair · 17/06/2006 20:24

Have no idea what is going on but Sad for you UCM. Am forever linking to recommendations on here and camping and I can't see any harm, after all they have the product review threads on don't they? And afaik there's no sponsorship from Vango or Createandcraft or anything????

Bizarre. But don't let it get to you UCM, you kjhow what MN can be like at times.

Dior · 17/06/2006 20:30

UCM - no idea what has happened, but hope you feel happier soon. Keep your chin up x

Nemo1977 · 17/06/2006 20:34

UCM sorry you are feeling so low about this...to be honest I know a lot of people always recommend other sites[isnt that partly what the link thing is for??]. Dont know why people would go out to create bad feeling especially on A+C which is a fluffy inoffensive topic IMO.

soapbox · 17/06/2006 20:37

Hmmm, if we all keep posting support for UCM - it will soon become very clear who the complainers were - although I already have my suspicions:)

SoupDragon · 17/06/2006 20:38

This is a tricky situation because of who runs the site in question - it does mean that it can get recommended rather more than other sites and looks like nepotism IYSWIM. It just makes it stand out I guess. Mind you, if you don't put "I recommend you look at \link{http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1348/5362405/10806941/155936288.jpg\SoupDragon's site"} but just put "Look \link{http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1348/5362405/10806941/155936288.jpg\here",} I don't see why anyone would notice unless they're deliberately checking every link.

I will hold my hand up and say that I reported another MNer yesterday for advertising her own site and those posts have been deleted but I don't feel a recommendation of a MNers site by a Happy Customer should be a problem.

Pixiefish · 17/06/2006 20:38

sorry this has got to you (but don't get me started on tesco.)
Anyway camping for the weekend and don't know how long this internet connection will last but just don't let this get to you bud- whatever has happened isn't worth getting het up about xxx

UCM · 17/06/2006 20:44

SG you are totally right as usual. I just wonder how Arts & Crafts can continue as it's mainly what we do, tell each other who is selling this & that, if you go back over that last 20 posts in A&C I am sure there are links to tons of places, even today there was link to Tescos which was the title. Recommending places to buy your stash is the mainstay of this part of MN.

Of course, if I buy my stuff from somewhere in particular I am going to tell, specially if it's the cheapest place to get it. If it wasn't I wouldn't honestly. What would be the point, I certainly wouldn't pay more for an item. I am really not trying to stir up more bad feeling but A&C will perish if we can't recommend places and this place is an absolute Godsend for anyone who loves arts & crafts as is the rest of mumsnet for other reasons.

OP posts:
Yorkiegirl · 17/06/2006 20:50

don't let it get you down UCM.
Like you say there's enough going on in RL to worry about before worrying about life on the net.

SaintGeorge · 17/06/2006 20:50

Bit like me recommending Betterware really.

People ask where they can buy something, I am a rep so I know it is stocked. I gain nothing by recommending it because if they buy from the site I don't get anything. The odd time or 2 I have sold something I have done it at cost to save the MNer money.

The whole thing is a shame but rise above it UCM. Not worth getting upset about honestly.

auntyquated · 17/06/2006 21:27
Sad

i hope you are ok UCM.
