Creating bad feeling on Arts & Crafts....

The person who did this knows exactly who they are. What I would like to know is why spoil it for other crafters. A fellow crafter asked for advice speedily and I gave it, having used exactly the set that would have helped. I also knew that if they needed it quickly they would have got it. Luckily they have now been and got what they needed. No thanks to the jealous, small mindedness of someone on here. I shop all over the place for Arts & Crafts stuff and not in one place. I would have no qualms about recommending the cheapest on here. As someone has quite rightly pointed out today Tescos & Asda are doing craft stuff now. Will you report that post as it's unsolicited advertising. No I didn't think so. Just recently I have been to absolute hell & back in RL - proper and utter hell. I have learnt that life is far too short to be nasty because what goes around really does come around.... No more on this subject from me.

JJ - I think MN are going to have to define associated then!

Is someone associated just by being a customer?

If so then I think it is only fair for all such recommendations to be vetoed!

It does seem rather bizarre that one can recommend any other crafting shop in the world but if one recommends one that just happens to be run by someone who also posts on MN - and therefore knows people on here then that is not allowed!

JM has never advertised on here herself or asked anyone do recommend her - she has made that clear on several occasions.

Without dragging Bubblerock into it any further - if someone has had an enjoyable stay at her hotel and posts a thank you on here - will that be removed too? I think not - because it has happened and it was not removed!

I really did think MN was bigger than all of this, and would not allow the carping to get in the way of rational and consistent treatments of JM's shop as compared to any other - it would seem that I was wrong and yes, I am bloody angry about it!

It's not black and white though. It gets complicated by the fact that some MNers with business websites pay for an advertisement and others do not. If the ones who do not have a paid ad get multiple recommendations (simply because more MNers have used their site, maybe because their friends) then it will annoy those who have paid.

And yes, of course lots of companies who don't pay for advertising get recommended, it maybe just doesn't irritate as much because they're not associated with MN in anyway at all so can't possibly be thought of as getting free advertsing by virtue of theie MN posting status IYSWIM.

SoupDragon · 18/06/2006 14:44

I'm not saying that it was someone with a paid-for ad that complained BTW! I wouldn't know. It was just an example.

Hi all - sorry for the confusion. It's fine to link to sites, however we do discourage people from linking to the same site repeatedly and out of context.

For example, say SoupDragon had been to Bubblerock's hotel and loved it (as she would, I'm sure!) and thought it was great and wanted to do anything to help BR. It would be fine to post on her small business ad and say "I loved the trip - thanks ever so much for your hospitality". We actually encourage this - it's great feedback and makes the ads worth the cost. It would also be fine for SD to reply to a post asking for a family friendly hotel in Blackpool with a link and saying that she'd been and enjoyed it immensely. It wouldn't be ok for SD to post repeatedly post about the hotel and/or link it to on threads asking for camping near Blackpool or a family friendly hotel in Brighton.

As I mentioned before, we do have a longstanding policy on what constitutes advertising in the main discussion board and deal with it consistently and on a regular basis. This isn't an unusual case, except for the response, I suppose! Wink

Sorry if I don't reply again until tomorrow - am just about to make my first ever pitcher of Pimms. Am sadly quite excited about making a drink which will have cubes of cucumber floating in it.

Carmenere · 18/06/2006 15:56

Ahh a decent Pimms is indeed an art and a craft Grin

WoW it's gorgeous
If you want one, send me the money buy cheque the week before I go and I'll but it in the bank the day before I go.

I'm going to try and get on line to MN when I'm out there to let you know the bargins
then if anyone wants anything they can just pay me by PayPal

jenk1 · 18/06/2006 20:48

yes thats the one but on that well known auction site it is going for under $100, just a bit nervous about buying from states.

Whizzz · 18/06/2006 20:52

I bought my Lollipop alpha from the well known site Wink. It said it was in Dundee but actually shipped from US (bit naughty to fib in the description). Was marked for customs as a gift so didn't get stung. Took 2 weeks to arrive.

I note that there is now a Sizzix / Ellison site for Europe but prices are not as cheap as US prices. Theres a baragin section but has nothing in at mo - might be worth keeping an eye on though

JayzMummy · 18/06/2006 22:45

Dont waste energy being angry UCM

I had a fabby Birthday today and just want to say a huge thanks to all those who sent me some pretty fabtastic cards Smile
