Well I've done my first 'necklace card'.
I've posted into the gallery under All New - Whizzz

(and sorted out my stuff whilst I was there - some of the 'new' stuff was a bit old !)

link to Gallery

The trouble is - I keep making stuff & then deciding I like it too much & start wearing it myself !

LOL Pruni ....glad you liked the necklace I sent you. I have the same one and wear it all the time....its one of my favourites that I make.

Whizzz · 11/09/2005 09:59

Thanks for the tips JM - a true professional !
I've never used eyelets but may give them a go.

I'm off to visit a Lakeland shop today armed with £10 of vouchers !

ooo whizz they are fab.

kiwibelle · 12/09/2005 18:24

JM... are you going to be selling the jewellery which you have made online too?

jayzmummy · 12/09/2005 19:08

Yep

kiwibelle · 12/09/2005 21:24

Whizz... where did you get the bits of paua on your green necklace (on a happy birthday card)? I would love to get hold of some - a reminder of home

Whizzz · 12/09/2005 21:31

Kiwibelle - I bought them in a pack from Hobbycraft. I could send you some if you like or make you a necklace or bracelet !

JM.... I really, really, really, really love your new b & w cards on the site. They are so stylish!! Are the photographs yours? This is where I would like to be heading - my husband is a gun photographer and has taken some fabulous snaps which just end up being stored on our hard drive. Yes, I know, I should be scrapbooking too [insert smiley poking out tongue].

kiwibelle · 12/09/2005 21:40

thanks for the offer Whizz... but I do have a few pieces of jewellery with paua inserts which I brought over or have been given as gifts from my lovely family. I would like to use it as decoration - photo frames and perhaps cards. I must get to a hobby craft (my daughter's been nagging for ages) but I don't have one near me. God only knows how missE knows about the store!! I think Romford is closest to us.

Whizzz · 12/09/2005 21:44

Next time I go I can get you some if you like & post it to you. We have a Hobbycraft nearby (my downfall !).
It was £4.99 for a little bag of about 10 or so pieces. Each piece is pre-drilled with a hole. It is so pretty - the colours are beautiful.

thanks Whizz! I will let you know if you can help me by doing that. You are very kind. As I said, little MissE (9) is also keen to visit hobbycraft. We will take a trip out there. I've found a lakeland nearby too which is going to be lethal, I fear!

Now... coming back in to ask a question. I'm all enthused about this jewellery making now . I've been having a peek at the beads etc on ebay. But... how do I know what wire to buy - or for that matter, what equipment I will need (is wire the best thing to use or is there something more suitable for threading beads on to)? Really broad question, I realise, but do appreciate your advice. Thanks x x

Whizzz · 12/09/2005 21:59

I am a mere novice myself ! But based on my limited knowledge :-
For necklaces I have used cord thonging but ensure that your beads are not too small to fit onto it ! (you can get various thicknesses)

For bracelets I tried black elastic which is simple but I prefer the thonging again as it looks better.

For fastenings I am trying several types. You can buy metal ends that you can crimp onto the cord or if the cord is thin enough you can tie them in place & I have secured the ends with cotton to make it look neater.

For hanging beads you need little metal pins that you bend over with pliers & you can buy jump rings to secure them to the necklace/bracelet.

Glass beads look & feel better as they are heavier but acrylic beads are cheaper & from a distance look just as good.

I'm giving away my secrets now - I was hoping to taut for business

OP posts:
Whizzz · 12/09/2005 22:00

'tout' even !

OP posts:
kiwibelle · 12/09/2005 22:03

never fear about 'touting' for business Whizz... I'm full of great ideas but usually end up paying for someone else's services. It's lucky we're currently a one income family (and worse, it's mine) so I can't actually bid on any of these delicacies or go shopping in the stores .

But... I'll keep a copy of your suggestions, just in case.

Whizzz · 12/09/2005 22:05

And a bit like card making- it's addictive so be warned !

jayzmummy · 17/09/2005 11:34

The website is still being sorted out...we have to wait for more stocks to arrive so I can upload piccies of the lovely b&p's

I'll upload a piccie into the gallery of the new items I have made and then you can see the beads.
It'll be a bit later today as I am busy just now.
