Currently awaiting Amino, been given 1 in 2 chance for DS. NT measurement of 4.3mm and high blood results. I feel like im waiting for the inevitable to be confirmed. Could you tell me your experience, good or bad, if you don't mind sharing? I have a long wait until 2nd January to get the amino and need to stop being so anxious.

You can’t possible know that. Sad to see such blatant ableism being allowed on these threads

I teach in a school for disabled children and whilst I love them all to bits - I couldn't cope at home full time with a disabled child. The parents are amazing how they cope - some of them never get a break.

So I don't think you would be making the wrong decision. It could be such a strain on your existing family as I have seen so many times.

JC03745 · 07/01/2025 21:36

OP- I've read your posts but not every, single other one. My 1st pregnancy, after 4yrs TTC had Patau syndrome. I realise this is more clear cut in terms of life expectancy than DS. I chose TFMR.

Regardless of what decisions you make, I'm happy to answer any questions you have and thinking of you. Remember, that you aren't alone x

anonny55 · 07/01/2025 21:38

Although I've not had this experience, I just wanted to send my love and strength to what must be such a difficult position and anxious time for you and your partner🤞🏽

NorthernGirl1981 · 07/01/2025 21:42

Hi OP, I just wanted to come and give you a hand hold as it’s clear how emotionally difficult you are finding all of this. Although me and DH never found ourselves in this position, when we were TTC we had numerous discussions about this issue and we did say that if scans or tests showed the baby had DS or any other disability or life limiting condition then we would likely TFMR.

DS is such a huge spectrum and there’s no way of knowing which end of the spectrum a child will fall on. It’s a complete gamble and unless you feel emotionally and financially able to cope with the worst case scenario, with a family life that can adapt to that, then TFMR is probably the safest choice.

Im thinking of you and I pray that your results come back soon and show your baby is healthy and well.

Gotabadfeelingaboutthis · 07/01/2025 21:43

I am so sorry you are going through this. I had a baby with Edwards, which is more clear cut in terms of a bleak prognosis than Downs, but I still remember how awful it was being in limbo waiting for results. It's horrendous. Hopefully the results will give you some clarity tomorrow. There is no right or wrong decision, whilst I know families who have children with Downs who are very happy, their child is thriving and doing really well, and they wouldn't change it for the world, there are no guarantees and what's right for one family could be very different to another. It's such a personal choice. I wish you all the best in the coming days/weeks.

WimbyAce · 07/01/2025 22:31

I don't have any experience with this or words of wisdom but you sound lovely OP so wishing you all the best. I hope you get the results soon as it must be awful waiting.

MarigoldSpider · 07/01/2025 22:35

The wait must be so tough OP, I hope you hear back soon x

Whatiswrongwithmeffs86 · 08/01/2025 12:14

Update:

Somehow, against the odds, our results have come back clear for DS, Edwards & Pataus.

I am beyond happy and relieved after 3 weeks of hell. We still have to wait for full microarray.

I can't actually believe it.

For anyone reading in the future, even with odds of 1 in 2, things can work out OK.

Thank you to everyone's kind comments, stories, and support. It has really helped.
