Waiting for CVS results

Is anyone else waiting for CVS results? Our baby has a raised NT of 4.7 and we had NIPT done privately which came back clear for the 3 trisomies. I'm finding it difficult not to think about the possible outcomes all the time.

We haven't told many people about the pregnancy yet because of the worry that something is wrong, but I'm feeling more and more pregnant as time goes on. Planning on telling my boss on Monday but will ask to WFH until we get the results as I just can't face colleagues congratulating me when they notice my bump.

After horrendous sickness in the first trimester and then the NT concerns this has been an extremely difficult pregnancy so far. Hoping to hear from anyone who has experienced similar or is going through the same right now for some hand holding.

Thanks💐

Hi @BPop8 how did your amnio go? I'm doing ok thanks, quite anxious now that it's nearly time for the second set of CVS results. When will you hear your results? Hope you're doing ok x

@Chouxbun it went as well as it could have thank you, as you know it’s pretty anxious afterwards with the miscarriage risk but so far i’m ok. We should get the first part of the results tomorrow which I feel very nervous about. When did they say you should get your second part of the results?

Peaches1906 · 17/01/2024 14:02

Glad your amnio went ok @BPop8 I found the CVS to be not necessarily painful, just a strange feeling. Hope you're able to rest up & recover well. Good luck for tomorrow. Also wishing you luck for the full results @Chouxbun Thinking of you both.

We came out of the hospital appt last week feeling a bit confused as our initial scan showed the NT as 5.8mm & the second in the fetal medicine unit scan came back as a 3mm. The midwife said if we got that result the first time we 'wouldn't even be here' as abnormal is considered 3.5mm & above isn't it. They still advised us to go ahead with the CVS for certainty which we decided to do, but they couldn't answer our question on how the result can be so vastly different just a few days apart. The initial scan images hadn't been sent to them so they couldn't comment.

Still so pleased to say our initial results have come back as clear for Down, Edwards & Patau Syndrome. Still more to come but feels like a massive weight lifted already.

BPop8 · 18/01/2024 20:38

Hi all,

We had bad news today. We went in for a detailed scan and problems were immediately picked up. The baby (a little girl) has a double cleft lip and a hole in her heart (AVSD) and could possibly have a brain issue also but they couldn’t confirm anything at the scan. The lady doing the scan said the abnormalities looked typical for T13 (Pataus). They then chased the initial results from the amnio for us which came back as negative for all 3. We will receive the full results next week but are already preparing to say goodbye to our little one, we don’t want her to suffer and to have to endure multiple major surgeries if she even makes it to full term. We are devastated but knowing facts is somewhat easier than being in limbo. I really do wish you all the best with your results.

Chouxbun · 22/01/2024 10:44

Hi ladies, our second set of CVS results came back clear. Waiting for a heart scan on Thursday next to check if there are any issues which caused the raised NT. Hope you're all doing ok x

Peaches1906 · 28/01/2024 20:19

How was the heart scan @Chouxbun? Hope all went well.

how are you doing @BPop8? Sending love your way x

BPop8 · 28/01/2024 20:47

Hi all, I hope you’re ok. I’m doing as well as I can be, I had a surgical termination on Friday which was pretty awful as I’m sure you can imagine. I feel very sad but I’m reaching out to all of the support available to me. I truly hope for good results for all of you, life can be cruel and I hope these experiences will only make us stronger even if it doesn’t feel like it right now x

Chouxbun · 30/01/2024 10:13

We had the all clear from the CVS and the first fetal echo was normal. Now we have a second heart scan and the NHS 20 scan. I'm still anxious that there might be a problem not discovered yet, but I'm managing ok.

💐 @BPop8 I hope you're doing ok and finding comfort in friends and family. I'm so sorry for what you're going through x

Hi everyone, in our case the high NT reading has turned out to be a problem with baby's heart picked up at the 20 week echocardiogram. It's currently mild and we're being monitored closely. Just thought I'd give an update as I trawled through these threads when we got our high NT reading. 💐

OP posts:
Peaches1906 · 03/03/2024 13:48

Sorry to hear that. Are you ok? Glad it’s currently mild and they’re able to monitor it. I agree that when you feel alone it’s reassuring to find somebody who knows what you’re going through.

We had our 20 week scan & heart scan on Thursday & everything looked normal from what they could see apart from baby looks like they have a small stomach. We have another scan tomorrow for them to double check it. Going in tomorrow with an open mind to see what they say.

Chouxbun · 03/03/2024 17:35

Hi @Peaches1906 yea I'm ok thanks, it's been such a rollercoaster but we're glad to have a clear diagnosis and that it's mild and treatable. The wait between scans feels so long! Our next one is in 7 weeks. I'm going to try and enjoy the pregnancy in the meantime and start yoga.

I hope your scan tomorrow is reassuring xx

@Chouxbun
Been watching this thread since last Monday when I had a NT of 5.5mm came back, immediately got emailed via the MW a leaflet on how to deal with the loss of your baby - not happy.
Had a CVS last Thursday and have had the first 3 come back 'normal' just waiting on the others.
Just thought id message and share thoughts/feelings as I know my mind has been going ballistic so could imagine how youve been feeling.

PurpleRayne89 · 05/12/2024 18:32

Hey, similar situation. Well sort of. No nasal bone at 12 weeks scan. Combined test intermediate for trisomy 21. NIPT returned high risk result. They’ve invited me in tomorrow for a scan, consultation and possible CVS. What are you thoughts? I’m sick with worry, I still have hope but not hopeful.

Hello. I'm sorry you're going through this, but this is an old thread.
It hasn't been posted on for 9 months.

I think it would be better if you started your own thread.

Peaches1906 · 05/12/2024 21:56

Hi @PurpleRayne89, very sorry to hear you’re going through this. I know these next few weeks will feel like a lifetime waiting for results and how much of a struggle it is. You’re not alone ❤️

I got this notification because I posted on the original thread at the beginning of the year. I had the CVS procedure in January because of a high NT. The procedure wasn’t painful but uncomfortable and I’m glad I did it for definite results. The results came back negative and we are now looking forward to our first Christmas with our beautiful baby girl who is nearly 5 months old.

Wishing you all the best and sending love your way. Hope is never lost ❤️

@Peaches1906 Thank you for your kinds words. I am pleased it all worked our for you 😌 I hoping I have the same outcome but not feeling so positive.

Hi, I’m in a really similar situation currently. Although my NT measurement was 8.5mm and we have been given awful odds of the baby being okay. We had CVS on Friday and should get initial results tomorrow and more indepth genetic results by end of next week.

its such a scary and depressing time, its good to remember you’re not alone 🩷

PurpleRayne89 · 09/12/2024 20:27

@SarPea93 I am really sorry to hear what you’re going through. I hope you get a positive result ❤️ our CVS was also Friday and they said we will get results this week, I’m guessing Wednesday. Are you having a full kryotype too? I’m thinking to request this regardless of the result.

to top it off I had my insensitive mother say that now I can get my existing son a double bed. I mean, I’m still pregnant 😞

Yep they told us Tuesday or Wednesday for results so hopefully yours will be the same. I feel sick with worry at the waiting. Yes we are having full karyotype done due to the sheer size of fluid - we’ve been given a 65% chance there’s a genetic condition. I think if it gives you peace of mind why not request it as they already have the sample?

that’s horrible 😞 you need words of hope not writing the baby off already.

PurpleRayne89 · 09/12/2024 20:35

@SarPea93 Did you also have a high risk NIPT? Not sure if our odds but what I do know is my mother is not likely willing to support us with a disabled child.

PurpleRayne89 · 09/12/2024 20:36

@SarPea93 What hospital are you under? We are under Kings College Hospital.

PurpleRayne89 · 09/12/2024 20:36

@SarPea93 What hospital are you under? We are under Kings College Hospital.

We didn’t have the NIPT we opted to go straight for a CVS as because the odds are high of there being something wrong we thought it saved some waiting. Our odds from the combined test was 1 in 5 for DS and 1 in 30 for Edwards and Pataus. theyve said even if baby doesn’t have a syndrome it’s likely to have a structural anomaly.

we are under Royal Derby. They’ve been really good so far at seeing us quickly and moving us on to the next steps fast.

that’s difficult - at the end of the day it’s your decision what you decide to do if the results do come back positive. It’s your baby and your life. It just feels so unfair being put in a position where you have to choose
