Im neither onwe. Just curious, as I was surprised who most people defender.

Person A is a middle aged man with his 8ish year old son. He walks into the tram and a couple of mins later, turns to his son and asks him who he thinks the hottest girl on the tram is.

Person B is a young girl who looks in her early twenties. She intervenes and tells him that it is an inappropriate thing to say. She also starts filming him.

Person A scoffs and ignores her.

Person B goes on to say that he should teach his son to read, count and write rather than ask him who the hottest girl on the tram was. That he should stop with his "third world country mentality and education" (person A was of Arab/Middle Eastern descent).

Person A proceeds to insult her, call her a bitch, a wh*, asking her if she wanted to see his d** while gesturing a handjob. Telling her her don told him she was the most disgusting girl on the tram and yet the loudest. Calling her a witch, etc...

They were both out of order but B should mind her own business and stop making racist assumptions.

rooinspace · 22/02/2023 12:00

Person A was wrong - not an appropriate conversation, Person B was also wrong to mention a so called “third world mentality”

cheatingcrackers · 22/02/2023 12:04

Person A behaved worse, but Person B shouldn't have used racism or any insults for that matter because her position prior to that was completely reasonable.

Tapenade · 22/02/2023 12:06

Both were wrong.

TfL are doing a visible crackdown on sexual harassment, though, so Person B could have followed the guidance on all the posters rather than challenging someone with an obviously misogynistic attitude

fantasmasgoria1 · 22/02/2023 12:07

What Is DLR?

Fladdermus · 22/02/2023 12:09

Both are wrong. A is a mysoginist and B is a racist. Both need to learn how to behave in front of children.

What Is DLR?

He threatened her with sexual violence. How on earth is she in any way as bad as him?

she assumed he was a misogynist because of what he said to his son. He was a proven misogynist in five minutes flat.

we need to call out misogyny every single time.

he is a dangerous misogynist.

did any fuckers eitnessing him sexual threatening a woman with a child witnessing do anything or call anyone? What did you do, op?

Courtorder · 22/02/2023 12:15

Person B is in the wrong. Person A did something wrong but not exceptionally so and, whether we agree with the topic of discussion or not, it’s none of her business to step in or tell him how to parent. Person B then responded with racist and bigoted vitriol for absolutely no reason and to no one’s benefit.

SpinningFloppa · 22/02/2023 12:15

Both bad. She should have ignored

user1492757084 · 22/02/2023 12:16

A is disgusting, uncivilised and totally inappropriate with son. B is correct in her assessment in every way though should have better manners and keep her opinion to herself when over hearing strangers on a tram.

An older lady told the dad to stop insulting the girl and when it escalated other people then joined in to try and stop the fight

Stating someone is of third world mentality is not racist. It is akin to say calling them uncivilised, uneducated in the rules of polite engagement, misogynist in parenting etc. - which is what A was. The assessment was based on observation of the man's behaviour (not his race) right next to her in a public place. He went on the behave in such a way as to prove her correct; he was not fit to socialise freely in a civilised world.

lazycats · 22/02/2023 12:31

Person A sounds awful and person B sounds like she saw an opportunity to make a viral Tik Tok.

MoneyInTheBananaStand · 22/02/2023 12:33

Person B was proved totally correct in her assessment of his "third world mentality" wasn't she

I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to say what she said but I would certainly be thinking it

LikeSpinningPlates · 22/02/2023 12:34

Person A is in the wrong. How fucking dare He ask his son that question in a public place, objectifying every woman in the team for his own entertainment.

I salute you person B. I’d give you a medal if I could.

That poor boy. Growing up with that for a father.

LikeSpinningPlates · 22/02/2023 12:38

What the fuck has it got to do with racism?

She was trying to tell him it was totally unacceptable in this country to talk about women audibly in that manner.

We are in a total mess in this country but we are not Iran, Thank God. Btw if I thought my crawling to Iran would help women there I’d do it.

We DO NOT have to put up with this shit.

LikeSpinningPlates · 22/02/2023 12:40

.. on the tram, that should have said

LikeSpinningPlates · 22/02/2023 12:42

@user1492757084 puts it very well.

It’s not often I feel outraged, mainly I just feel sad at the things people do. But I feel outraged on this young woman’s behalf.

Courtorder · 22/02/2023 12:42

Do people on here genuinely not think white men also objectivity women? It’s not at all a “third world mentality” - that’s why it was a racist comment. It’s also racist to imply a child cannot read, write or count because of their race. She was racist.

I forgot to mention! She indeed did say " learn to count, read, and write in English".

Agree that until Person B used the phrase "third world mentality" she was right. She then proceeded to be almost-but-not-quite as bad as Person A. He is only worse because he rose to the bait with some sexually aggressive responses.

I'm horrified at the number of people who think "third world mentality" is an acceptable phrase.
Third world mostly refers to poorer African countries. Imagine saying "your Ugandan mentality". It's disgusting.
