not to want to be all lighthearted and forgiving about the troll invasion?

I don't get the 'fun' of invading another site and causing real upset to real people. I trust people on mumsnet and respond genuinely to them, and now I wish I hadn't - and that has upset me.

I'm sure this is going to get me labelled a humourless sourpuss over on CUK - but then I reckon I am already one of the "...rampaging horde of offended lardbuckets..." they refer to, or perhaps one of the ".... small clique of salad-dodging, vindictive, manic-depressive yet very vocal inadequates..." who is "...likely to go blubbing to the Admin if anyone does not treat them with kid gloves?..." (not that I did go to Admin, but hey, why spoil a good insult with facts).

You make a good point, Madascheese (and I love your nickname).

YANBU.What a sad pathetic lot.
It seems that they make a habit of trolling other forums. Simple minds, simple pleasures I suppose.

doggiesayswoof · 31/03/2010 16:57

missed all this too.

Just had a look at their site - it's obviously pure sour grapes because MN is so much better

I cannot stand these sites with bloody avatars and signatures all over the place

Sad fuckers

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 31/03/2010 16:58

Yes - apparently the choices for this particular 'holiday' were us, 'some random farming site' or the Unite website.

oh I don't know - I was genuinely upset by some of those comnents on the thread yesterday.

But I do feel rather sorry for them that IT contractors that supposedly do this sort of thing regularly couldn't even more than a day or two without being rumbled.

Have just read the thread over their - quite funny actually reading the whole thing from start to finish..

Lulumaam · 31/03/2010 16:59

i wonder where the y got coco's soup recipe from

that cook book needs destroying!

ToccataAndFudge · 31/03/2010 16:59

well the meal "she" cooked the other night sounded rather crap as well (especially as they were eating proper crap while posting)

upahill · 31/03/2010 17:02

I have absoultely no idea what is going on here!!! What have I missed, flippin heck I try to keep up to date and I can't see what is happening in front me.

Please somebody explain what thread you are on about!!!!

Rollmops · 31/03/2010 17:03

Oh lighten up you lot, it was funny... well apart from abovementioned Myra H. bit

biddyofsuburbia · 31/03/2010 17:03

YANBU - but as a relative newbie (well, I've come back after a few years away!) I've found all this most enlightening. Been reading the soup thread last night and then all this CUK stuff this afternoon, whilst looking up other stuff about trolls, who they are and why they do it. Didn't know that other boards do 'raids' though!

I was under the impression that it was all genuine on MN until reading this stuff! - I will be taking lots of things with a pinch of salt now BUT I would be interested to know what the 'signs' of trolling are, if anyone cares to write a warning list somewhere! They seem to have some kind of 'moral' thing going on with CUK - I mean are there 'rules of war' or something for the internet??

upahill · 31/03/2010 17:04

Oh!! I saw the food one and the follow up with a recipe the following the day.

What other threads have they been on?

Madascheese · 31/03/2010 17:04

their admin says:

'I have kept well clear of this! I know not to annoy Mums, I am still sh*t scared of my own '

Bless them for not even being able to do the swearing....perhaps their forum is vetted by their Mummies too...

Did make me laugh out loud, the other thing is, none of them know if we're their wives/gf in real life...

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 31/03/2010 17:06

Upahill - there's a thread in AIBU - AIBU to feed my children crap - the OP wants to know if she is unreasonable to take a night off from cooking proper food, because she is tired or poorly, and is going to give her children hot dog pizzas. That thread got invaded by some delightful chaps from Contractors UK (CUK), the main culprit being CocoChantelle, who really wound people up (though some did spot her as a troll - not me, though).

'She' then started a thread 'AIBU to offer healthy cooking advice in AIBU' (or words to that effect) - a soup recipe with a large side-order of condescension.

Apparently the lads over on CUK have a 'holiday' where they invade another forum and cause rucks for fun - this invasion thread is here

I am pretty sure you're not my girlfriend.

Madascheese · 31/03/2010 17:12

I'm pretty sure too, I have a satisfying sex life...

doggiesayswoof · 31/03/2010 17:16

I posted on the erectile dysfunction thread last night and it felt a bit trolly at the time

and now it seems to have vanished

I take it that was one of theirs too?

wannaBe · 31/03/2010 17:16

I have no idea what the threads were about, but tbh I think that you can't have it both ways.

There is a bit of differing response to trolls depending on the type of troll. Obviously the long-term, emotion-sapping trolls are disliked by all and treated with the contempt they deserve. But the more light-hearted trolls are almost hero-worshipped if they can create an amusing enough thread. Is it therefore any wonder that other people would come here to troll?

I suspect a lot of them are probably actually partners of mumsnetters who have heard via their partners about the funny trolls on mn and have thought of trying a hand at it themselves.

I think people just taking the piss can easily be ignored, I'm more concerned that there are longer term trolls on mn who have good reputation and who have as yet not been outed..

doggiesayswoof · 31/03/2010 17:16

troll-y

nikki1978 · 31/03/2010 17:17

I have no idea what any of this is about but I am enjoying the flirtatious banter

ShadeofViolet · 31/03/2010 17:18

These IT contractors decided on MN for their "holiday" because of the Radio 4 interview MNHQ did recently.

ShadeofViolet · 31/03/2010 17:22

I think that was the same with the Lawyers. It was a bit of a disturbing thread. But it disapperad on Sunday.

MrsFullyautomatix · 31/03/2010 17:22

Who was flirting ?

winks back for the first time in my life.

We are very starved of women over in CUK.
