Freeloadcycler out to take piss from bladder itself, as well as furnishings for entire house!

Do tell me if this isn't the most cheeky "wanted" you have ever seen:

we are just moving house so we need double beds, single beds, wardrobes, chests of drawers, bathroom cabinets, table, chairs, plates, pots,etc
please if posible send a picture with the item. we would like to collect asap but if it's the right item we can wait

I feel like posting a "Wanted" of my own:

"Wanted: to know whether anyone is going to offer anything to this ... person"

There have been some requests for furniture for women who have been re-housed, and that is quite fair. But if this person is someone like that, s/he's certainly not mentioned it, and anyway, it is of a piece with many other posts I have seen recently. This group is going mad.

They might be a young couple just starting out with not much cash and grateful for anything to help them set up home. The cheeky part imo is asking for photos!

You must belong to the same FC group as me. You know, the one that has, "Wanted, Nintendo DS (LITE)" and "Wanted, Hronby Railway/Britains Farm Animals etc", together with, "Wanted, flatscreen TV in PWO, 42 inch"!

pinkmagic, yes, they might be, but surely if they can't afford beds, pots, pans, chairs, tables.... they can't yet afford to move out?

When DH, DS and I moved out of a furnished flat last year (we in our 30s, DS obviously not), we had some bits and pieces, which you can't help accumulating (notably cheapie bookshelves), and bought some furniture off our old landlady. So it can be done on the cheap, with the waiting for the right things later!

And Valhalla, yes, it's quite a quality and brand-conscious group! Quite choosy beggars (or is that buggers?) we have here.

People have specified stereo brand ("Philips, or anything good") and the "thanks" at the end of some posts is just so perfunctory, it really gets on my nerves.

Fair enough you don't want crap, but try to be a bit more polite about it, and don't take the piss by posting multitudinous "wants" in one post! Don't they realise they are giving out their e-mail address to everyone with their post? (No, I'm not going to).

Well its the old adage isn't it, if you don't ask you don't get. I think they should get it just for the flaming cheek, and it should be delivered. Why don't they ask somebody to bring a kettle, teabags and sugar so that they can be made a cup of tea as well. Too funny

That is not moving house... because you'd take your stuff with you if you were doing that. That is freeloading is what that is.

Hang on - isn't this the whole idea of freecycle? Or do you think people should be busy tugging at their forelocks as they beg for your unwanted loft-fodder?

If the concept of something for nothing annoys you that much, leave the group.

I've only ever used Freecycle to give stuff away (esp when me and now DH moved in together and we had 2 of everything) but helping out a young couple who can't afford to furnish a new home seems fine to me...

TBH I think you're the one being pretty vile here. The whole point of freecycle is to pass on the things you don't need to people who WANT AND CAN USE them. NEED doesn't neccessarily come into it. It isn't a charity and was never intended as such but rather as a way of stopping perfectly servicable goods from ending up in land fill.

You don't know their circumstances and why should they have to 'pitch' how badly off they are.

Still, the stealing piss from bladder quote is pure genius

Why not go to a public loo and take a photo of the skankiest toilet seat and/or loo roll holder you can find. Send them the pictures, ask if they want them?

TBH though they may well be offered a lot of stuff - so asking for pictures may help them choose what they'd like best.

Maybe their old landlady wasn't so accommodating?
I thought the point of freecycle was to offer if you genuinely want rid of something.

I see similar posts sometimes on my local Freecycle and I wonder at them - it does seema bit cheeky. Yes, Longtalljosie, Pheebe, Stealthpolarbear, the idea is to give away stuff to people who need those items, but the thing with Freecycle is that there is always a shortage of the big pieces like beds, sofas and so forth. Whenever someone posts with one on offer it is snapped up right away and with multiple bidders. I don't myself think it would be that fair for one person or couple to get a whole load from one source when there are so many others who could benefit. It's not supposed to be entirely instead of people buying their own stuff too - just a redistribution and a reduction.

If they need these items and haven't got much money, there are always the options of second-hand shops / charity shops / making do for now until more can be found!

We had one on ours wanting a disabled buggy...... One of the motorised ones. They are really expensive. I cant see anyone giving one away!!

I don't see what the problem is.

I have a double bed and a table that I tried to get rid of on Freecycle. No luck.

I think its often easier to keep an eye out for people that want the stuf you want to get rid of than to post an offer ad.

Freecycle is to get rid of stuff you don't want. I hate these judgy threads about the people who want the stuff. Who cares? I just want rid of stuff cluttering up my house.

Have these people previously offered items on freecycle? I remember seeing somewhere (perhaps on a thread like this one) that in some (most? all?) freecycle groups, you have to have offered something before you are allowed to post 'Wanted' ads like this one.

To be honest, asking for such a lot, and particularly the fact that they seem to want to pick and choose what they get (asking for pictures), does seem somewhat cheeky to me.

Surely part of planning to move into your own place or out of furnished accomodation, is planning and saving to make sure you can afford at least some of the basic furnishings you need?

I offered a load on our site yesterday - within about 10 minutes I got 4 replies. One asking if they were still available she'd be happy to home them, another saying basically the same... another two with "I'll have them, when can I get them!" style replies... they're the ones that get to me!

i wish they had been on my freecycle group. as i had so many people piss me about with collecting a set of bunkbeds that i felt like kweeping them in the end. but luckily, yesterday a lovely polite man collected them and got them out of my way.

Erm... I really thought the idea of Freecycle was to stop so much stuff being wasted: being thrown away when it was still use-able?

Like, if your friend wanted to get rid of a sofa and asked it you wanted it. You might say no, cos it's red and you've got pink wallpaper (??!! you know what i'm saying...), but no-one would then bat an eye-lid.

I think if someone is moving house and wants to try and re-use old, unwanted things rather than buying new stuff (and creating future landfill), surely that's fine?

And if you're doing that, there's no reason your house has to look like a junk shop! My understanding was that Freecycle was there to match 'throw-away-ers' and 'want-ers'. Not to allow people to charitably give things away to people less fortunate than themselves.
