NoBiggy · 30/01/2010 10:33

One of my friends posted this, on closer examination she posted it as her status, then used the comment underneath to disagree with it. Not the best method.

GlastonburyGoddess · 30/01/2010 10:40

I have had this as my status for 24hrs. Im sorry, I have nothing against haiti but I think the amount we give out worldwide in aid is disgraceful, combined with the fact we are a very small country compared to alot of others. I dont disagree with giving aid, I just think that as a country we need to sort ourselves out to a acceptable level before giving millions away in aid.

tbh the thing that peeves me is that we are bailing out other goverments constantly because theyre not doing theyre job properly.surely there should be some way for them to be held accountable for not providing for their people. I know haiti was an area of poverty before the disaster but then look at the presidential palace, theres obviously some extreme wealth right next to the extreme poverty, they should be made to do something about it by other world goverments.

Shame on YOU GlastonburyGoddess!! Disgusting attitude.

Tell you what shall we send the troops in? Drop a nuclear bomb? (well of course we SHOULD be sending troops in to help with the aid effort).

You must be a very unhappy person with an outlook like that - i feel sorry for you

lematthedogs · 30/01/2010 11:01

ah but riven, Britain is such a SMALL country - I can assume she means in land mass. FFS!! Im shocked and appalled

Oh and OP - they wouldn't be my friends, on face book, or real life if they posted that again. Horrible. Its like the inevitable barrage of jokes, although fortunately i haven't heard any about Haiti, thank God.

People with attitudes like that tend to have quite low IQs ladyintheradiator - so they wouldnt be able to work that one out!

If this country wants to benifit from being part of a world wide community then they have to be a part of that community and help out.

SomeGuy · 30/01/2010 11:08

What on earth is an acceptable level, if we don't have it in the UK?

GlastonburyGoddess · 30/01/2010 11:23

In short lematt * off, were are all entitled to an opinion. Reducing the amount given away in aid would actually help stop some of the miserable conditions in parts of this country. The goverment frequently withdraws funding for projects set up to help the homeless/needy/children etc because they "cant" provide the money, they then collapse and are not able to provide the service to the people who really need it.

As i said in my first post, I dont disagree with giving aid Im atonished though at how the goverment stumps up so much in a matter of hours, I know some of it is from the general public, but a significant amount is from the goverment.
I hope haiti does pull through this in the next few years which are going to be very tough, but I also hope that their goverment is given a kick up the arse to sort out its country. There are other ways to do this without sending the troups in ffs

"stop whining and get off your arse and help sort out this countries issues. Go volunteer at a homeless shelter for starters" well actually I dont at the moment but I have done alot of volunteer work in the last few years thankyou very much from homeless, LD and young mothers and babies so to that

lematthedogs · 30/01/2010 11:27

Yes, you are entitled to your opinion, and i am entitled to mine, which is that your opinion is vile. People like you are quite common in this country sadly, and one of the reasons that i don't feel able to be proud to be british. That is my opinion - if you don't like it, i suggest you take your own advice.

SomeGuy · 30/01/2010 11:29

As long as we are human we will never stop all the 'miserable conditions' in our own country, so by your logic we should never help anybody.

Not good.

wubblybubbly · 30/01/2010 11:42

OP, my aunt has this on her FB too. I've just ignored it, far to many people in our family don't speak to each other as it, I don't want to start my own little war.

"the only country where we have homeless without shelter, children going to bed without eating, elderly going without needed meds, mentally ill without treatment, TROOPS WITHOUT PROPER EQUIPMENT,"

It's not even true, FGS.

Perhaps if she'd brought up her children properly and they hadn't all spent some considerable time at Her Majesty's Pleasure at our expense, we might a few quid left to buy the only hungry children in the world a bag of chips each.

giraffesCantCeilidhDance · 30/01/2010 11:50

Ive deleted "friends" with that status.

Mumcentreplus · 30/01/2010 12:11

Are you serious?..hmm]

we give 50m to starving broken people and you are pissed off?..do you actually realise how much money 50m is in relative terms?..

do you really think if we didnt give that 50m then suddenly the homeless without shelter, children going to bed without eating, elderly going without needed meds, mentally ill without treatment, TROOPS WITHOUT PROPER EQUIPMENT would suddenly change?

This is what being a human is all about helping others ..shame on you!
