THIS ....... Shame on you ENGLAND !!!!!! the only country where we have homeless without shelter, children going to bed without eating, elderly going without needed meds, mentally ill without treatment, TROOPS WITHOUT PROPER EQUIPMENT, - yet we donate £50 million to the people of Haiti ... 99% of people won't have the guts to copy ...and repost this......

The UK Government has donated £20m. The UK people have donated £60m. If the FB message is about the £20m, that's just sad to think that we live in one of the worlds richest countries, yet some people would begrudge our govnerment sending £20m to Haiti. If the FB message is about individuals (like me) who have watched the news and don't want to just turn off the tv and do nothing, then the message and the people displaying that message are just too odious to warrant further comment.

pooexplosions · 30/01/2010 21:40

You are entitled to your opinion, but does it have to be quite so moronic?

I do hope your friends list has been decimated Glasto as your friends realise what a facist tool you are.

pastapestofor6 · 30/01/2010 21:42

I'm still seething over this have commented on both friends that 99 % of people are not stupid enough th believe this
no return comments yet..we shall see, It is an absolute disgrace that anyone in the richest countries in the world would begrudge fellow HUMANS being helped out glastonbury your response sickens me TBH, hopefully you speak for the minority although I'm not overly cnvinced of that

We are lucky to be in the UK, we are in a rich country where people have clean water and shelter and an NHS and proper sanitation and free education. We did nothing to earn this, it doesn't make us better people, just luckier. Makes me sad when people seem to think we shouldn't do everything we can to help people who are desparate. I donated to Haiti and I hope to god should I ever find myself that desperate someone else would think of me. The people of Haiti will need a lot more than £60 m, but its a start.

GrimmaTheNome · 30/01/2010 22:05

The UK Government has donated £20m

I think its pretty disgraceful the govt has only donated a couple of bankers-bonus worths. That puts it in perspective, doesn't it?

I don't know about the equipment bit but "homeless without shelter, children going to bed without eating, elderly going without needed meds, mentally ill without treatment" applies to the US too, the richest country in the world. I expect there's a similar message going round FB there too.

theressomethingaboutmarie · 30/01/2010 22:21

Glastonbury Goddess - yes, we are a small country but we're a good one. Our government, along with many good people in this country, choose to help those who have suffered a cataclysmic disaster.

As Riven said, if you're so disgusted with the state of the UK, I can only assume that you are politically and socially active and fight to make a difference. I'm going to go ahead and assume that you're not - feel free to correct me if this isn't true.

I don't have a good amount of spare money after bills each month but give £50 to UK charities that are close to my heart. I've also donated to the Save The Children and Oxfam Haiti funds.

God forbid that the UK suffers a terrible natural disaster, would you not fully expect the international community to help to support us? Charity certainly begins at home but should it stop there?

ToccataAndFudge · 30/01/2010 22:24

"but I think the amount we give out worldwide in aid is disgracefu"

£50 million - that's nothing out of the UK budget - it's like coppers out of your purse in terms of how much money it is.

ToccataAndFudge · 30/01/2010 22:35

India has pledged $5million (US)
South African $135,000
Senegal $1million
Chad $500,000
Cambodia $50,000
Brazil $19million

UK $33million

(oh and fwiw - this "shame on you England" was ripped from a "Shame on you America" one that started going round first)

Wonderstuff · 30/01/2010 22:36

Less than a quid each! Also the UK based issues aren't there because we are too poor to fix them are they. There are issues of social deprivation, but the gap between the richest and poorest is getting bigger and bigger (shame on Labour Govt) which is the real problem.

definately a no no word TSC

Cunt however is an appropriate word for nick griffin and anyone who agrees with him. But how do you know it was him? just wondered

lematthedogs · 30/01/2010 23:10

actually - am thinking that we should invent a new word - one that is really really bad to describe scum like him.

GrimmaTheNome · 30/01/2010 23:19

I couldn't think of a suitably vitriolic term - 'ethically challenged' is accurate but a bit tame.

How ironic that Americans are complaining about the amount of money the US gives to Haiti and yet they are all up in arms about improving access to healthcare for the poor.

GlastonburyGoddess - please do a bit of reading about the history of Haiti before you slam their government - the country has been undermined and exploited by colonial powers for hundreds of years

ToccataAndFudge · 30/01/2010 23:31

quick - before they delete it - copy and past that post again with cunt instead of that word

well some may not like "cunt" - but it's not as universally offensive as the other one - so that'll do me

don't worry too much about the initial post - for me what's most important is that you did't go "oh but,.........and make excuses for using it" ( as I've seen some do).

nah - don't worry about it, seriously, yes you used it, a people pointed out it wasn't very nice, you've asked for it to be deleted and said you're sorry and said you won't use it again.

Story over. (as far as I'm concerned)

besides - I've just asked for my post that referenced the word to be deleted as well - so tomorrow morning when they're both gone everyone else will wonder WTF we were on

edam · 31/01/2010 11:57

OI! I certainly didn't request that my post was removed. And it was not offensive at all. It just pointed out that retard is a horrible word, offensive to people with SN, and asked the poster to stop using it.

Jeez, is MN now censoring objections to prejudice? Will people who complain about racist posts be deleted?

It's bloody hard to explain that it's offensive if you aren't allowed to use the word though.
