She's just so fracking...ugly.

She can't sing, either.

And she's crap as Mama Ramotswe.

No don't stop your fan club! I'll join

FrankMustard · 22/04/2009 16:57

I thought it seemed a bit odd! I've read the book but missed the series on tv and didn't think there was anyone ugly in the trailers! For a moment I was worried something had gone terribly wrong with your day!

Mumcentreplus · 22/04/2009 17:00

Jealousy is a terrible thang

MrsMerryHenry · 22/04/2009 17:00

I'm just trying out my super-sarcastic side, Franky.

Also I'm pretty sure you still can catch up with the whole series on the bbc iplayer.

Not jealous, mumcentreplus, envious. It's far more sophisticated.

She came from a spoken word / performance petry background and gained popularity through building up a grassroots fanbase in the USA. She was part of that whole hip hop / poetry link up thing. I think she was around for a long time before her first album got picked up in the 90s (I think?) and I'm pretty sure it was a surprise hit. So she kind of bypassed the need to be that young, pretty thing. Pop Idol she aint't, anyway. She's actually talented - writers her own lyrics, writes music etc. Michelle McManus could sing, but the poor girl wasn't exactly setting the world alight with her talent and charisma, was she?

MrsMattie · 22/04/2009 17:03

I totally missed your sarcasm and the green jealous [email protected]!

FrankMustard · 22/04/2009 17:04

Ooh, yes, envy - the must-have accessory in today's chic world!

belgo · 22/04/2009 17:07

Just read she's had a baby boy called Jett. She was pregnant when she was filming the No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency.

Megglevache · 22/04/2009 17:08

MrsMattie , me too

MrsMerryHenry · 22/04/2009 17:15

chic, you say? (not a word I've heard used in relation to me!)

Jett???!!!! So she's not perfect. There is justice in the world!

MrsMattie - interesting potted history, I knew nothing about her. In fact though I've known about her I'd never even listened to her music until today.

I was so sure that typing about a million s would make it clear I was being ironic!

Check out this one. A real woman with mature musings. I wonder how many women think the same thing when they have been traded in? Go Jill!

self · 22/04/2009 21:07

ffs she is pregnant- i so adore her she is so comfortable in her body go girl.

MrsMerryHenry · 22/04/2009 21:08

And all done with such great lyrics, too. She rocks!

TiggyR · 22/04/2009 21:50

Never heard her sing, and I can take or leave the Ramotswe character but ugly? No. she's extremely pretty. Fat, yes, but very pretty.

TiggyR · 22/04/2009 21:52

Oops. Ok, got to learn to read whole thread. Sorry!

chegirl · 22/04/2009 22:45

I love Jill Scott too. Totally fab. That album got serious play in my house.

Beautiful too.

Hmmm I think I may be a little too!

Anyone like Floetry? Not sure of the spelling but they are great.

hester · 22/04/2009 22:48

I love Jill Scott

ineedalifelaundry · 22/04/2009 23:38

Jill Scott is totally fabulous. It's so nice to see all these other people who know / like her music - whenever I mention her to people they say 'who?'

I think she used to be a backing singer for Stevie Wonder before she made it solo.

I heart Jill Scott. Dh and I pretty much fell in love to the album, "Who is Jill Scott?" so every track has a good feeling for me.

She's very pretty, has an amazing voice and can act as well.

You may have point with the face.

Walkingwiththighosaurs · 23/04/2009 10:21

No, really, who is Jill Scott. Never heard of her.

spokette · 23/04/2009 10:35

My other favourite is Angie Stone. This song is just fabulous and I listen to it time and time again.

I also love, love, love Alicia Keys and this live performance on Jonathan Ross just showcased not only her beauty but her musical brilliance.
