To think hot drinks should be baned from toddler groups?

I am sick to death of parents just leaving them in toddlers reach! It really scares me!

YABU. Adults should be very careful with hot drinks, obviously. But ban them totally? A grim prospect.

No, not unreasonable at all. I think that parents with children who are not yet mobile simply don't think about it - it's not a malicious thing, they just haven't reached that stage with their own children yet.

IMO hot drinks should be served in those lidded cups, or not at all.

I think if it bothers you then you shouldn't go. Or start a new one with no hot drinks.

Although you are absolutely correct about the safety issue, many mums come to toddler groups because they desperately need adult company (and a friendly cup of tea).

When I was running a toddler group, we used to debate this one frequently in our committee meetings, but we always came down on the side of providing for the needier adults. If these mums felt unwelcome, we wouldn't be doing our job and there would be little point to having a toddler group.

NBU BUT!!!! when we tried to ban them we got such complaints they were reintroduced, not my problem no longer liable.

As soon as they were reintroduced people just went back to their old ways despite being asked to keep hot drinks to a small area and away from children.

(we banned them as there was an incident with child nearly upsetting a cup over a baby)

On the other hand, I'm always amazed by arseholes who do leave hot drinks within kids reach.

They should have lids! Schools have too. Belgo......when parents put them on a unit with toys designed fpr toddlers to access, Yes I do think they have no common sense!

I think the ones with lids are more dangerous, if they are not on properly you are more likely to upset the drink.

YABU. The whole point of going to toddlers was to get a cup of tea and have an hour or two actually seeing people instead of 4 walls.

Also I don't drink hot drinks, so I can never see what all the obsession with them is about anyway

I do remember being v edgy and annoyed about blimmin endless cups of tea around my babies when they were born. It never looked like the adults/visitors were paying enough attention to them to me.

Toddler groups are for babies and toddlers, go to a coffee shop if your coffee is so important. Lets hope its not your baby to get burnt!

Why not just have lidded cups?

YABU - the cup of tea is the only thing that makes it bearable

I mean if the cup has a lid on it, and the lid isn't on properly and you pick up the cup by the lid, you are more likely to drop the cup.

No they're not. They're for the parents of babies and toddlers. Not sure the babies care one way or the other.

But toddler group tea is usually disgusting. It should be banned for that reason

I know what let's just ban parents from ever using hot water for anything. We are obviously not capable.

Actually profcalculus, the tea at my toddler group is pretty good! It's the only reason I go - honestly

Our Children's Centre has banned hot drinks from the family room. You have to drink them in the kitchen, which doesn't have clear line of sight into the children's area. And the children aren't allowed into the kitchen.

I don't know how someone with a clingy/nervous/social liability of a child is supposed to cope.

We've debated it at our toddler group and come down to the view that hot drinks will still be served, but:

We get the children to sit down at a table for their own drink/snack first, so that they are not under parents' feet when the drinks are first served;

Parents are frequently reminded about keeping hot drinks out of reach of children - as well as other safety issues.

And I wouldn't want lids on cups. I don't think they'd actually stay on if the drink was dropped - and they keep the liquid hotter for longer.
