Travelling in leggings/activewear?

I know there’s a lot of thoughts about this so I figured I’d ask, what does everyone travel in? Usually I either wear jeans or my heaviest item, but I’m travelling quite late on in the day this time so want comfort. But I know people are quite disparaging of people who travel in active wear 😂

I never travel in jeans, unless it’s only a couple of hours, the though of the waistband ….

i have also never particularly thought anything about someone dressed in joggers or leggings who are travelling, it just looks practical. I wear a pair of tapered reasonably smart looking blue soft waistband trousers usually, easy to not drag on floor in the plane loos. Or if going somewhere hot some looser cotton or viscose trousers, and a cotton top as I’m a sweaty menopausal mare. Does that help?

Girlintheframe · 21/10/2026 07:11

Honestly who cares what others think? I would never look at people wearing active wear and have an opinion on it, I doubt other people do either.

I usually wear jogging bottoms for travel, purely because I want comfort and to be able to relax. Wear what ever you want, what makes you feel good and what will keep you comfortable during your journey.

CordwainerBird · 21/10/2026 07:12

I’m the same re wearing the heaviest or bulkiest item but it depends on whether I’m travelling short haul, long haul or business. Long haul would be leggings for sure but I would have a large suitcase and plenty of room. Short haul or not much luggage I would wear the bulky stuff. Business travel where I needed heels and a suit or PPE the next day would be different!

I’ve never cared what other people wear as long as they’re not dirty and unkempt.

Who is disparaging? This is news to me.

Likert · 21/10/2026 07:16

I have a light (as in colour) grey Adidas tracksuit (joggers and hoodie) that I always use for travel. It's so comfortable and warm. DH tells me I looked like a prisoner being transported.

CostcoFanofThree · 21/10/2026 07:16

im a huge Lulu fan. Lots of stretchy comfy layers, and isotoner slippers to switch into.

Greenspaceskeepmecalm · 21/10/2026 07:16

Wear what you want! I never travel in jeans, far too uncomfortable. I usually wear wide leg joggers or active wear.

Enjoy your trip.

DreamyAmberKoala · 21/10/2026 07:19

I don't if I did the poll right sorry! I don't want anyone else wear. I have tried I jeans and have travelled in leggings. Recently more travel insurance leggings. Jacket yeah I wouldn't put in the case but other wise I don't think the weight of clothes items vary that much (though never weighed and do appreciate jeans weigh more than leggings, but only time I have been near the weight limit was travelling to and from China which I was going to for about 3 months).

LightDuvet · 21/10/2026 07:19

Is this a joke?

It's very normal to wear leggings or activewear to travel.

Woahtherehoney · 21/10/2026 07:21

If I see one more “oh what should I wear to fly jn? I want to be comfy but feel put together” post I’ll scream.

just wear whatever is usually comfy - nobody cares! Wear leggings, wear joggers, wear trousers - just wear something that covers your legs as airplane seats are disgusting.

Alltheusefulitems · 21/10/2026 07:21

Wear whatever you feel comfortable sitting down in for a prolonged amount of time. People at airports are far too busy worrying about passports, boarding passes and whether they turned off the oven to think about what anyone else is wearing!

Have a lovely holiday

StaringAtTheWater · 21/10/2026 07:23

I'd probably think someone a bit odd if they boarded in a sports bra top and leggings; but leggings and t-shirt / jumper is totally fine. I always wear a pair of navy bootcut leggings from M&S. I'd never wear jeans.

GintyMcGinty · 21/10/2026 07:23

No one cares. Wear what you want.

luckylavender · 21/10/2026 07:23

I don’t understand everyone asking either. But I also don’t understand why people buy uncomfortable jeans. I’m currently on a long haul holiday and love to travel in my 501s.

Squirrelblanket · 21/10/2026 07:25

I only wear jeans to travel if I'm going on a short break and flying with just a cabin bag, to save on space.

I did a long haul flight in business class for work this year and wore some loose jogger style trousers and they kept riding up my legs when I was laying down, so next time it's leggings all the way for me.

I don't think anyone cares what other people are wearing, wear what's best for you!

I think there was a thread on it recently. It was news to me too. Why on earth would anyone notice or care what other people wear to travel?

Maybe it's a MN thing.

The same posters that eat half a lettuce leaf for lunch and wash their bedding every 4 hours.

Not a joke. I see posts all the time whining about women wearing leggings!

I have a nice navy set that I’m considering wearing but I don’t want to look bad!

Why would anyone notice you and why would you care?

Who cares though? Just wear what you like and what’s comfortable.
I travel in gym leggings, a t shirt and oversized jumper. I want to be comfortable.

I cannot imagine giving a second thought to the opinion of the sort of person who would care what another person would wear.

But why would you care about what someone on mumsnet thinks? Honestly, do you stress this much about what you wear day to day? Nobody actually cares, nobody is looking and even if they were how does what they think affect you. Its not like anyone is going to come up to you and comment.

Bobloblaw84 · 21/10/2026 07:37

Jfc this again. There are a billion different variations on linen pants/harem pants/joggers/barrel pants all with elastic waistbands if activewear is not your thing.

HermioneWeasley · 21/10/2026 07:38

I always find aeroplanes cold so I often mentally boggle at people who are wearing shorts and a vest top or t shirt on the basis I wonder why they’re not freezing when I’m bundled up in my coziest hoodie and still shivering
