Disappointed

I would be disappointed too. What is your relationship like otherwise?

Alittlefrustrated · 06/10/2026 05:28

I hope you are recovering well OP.
YANBU, assuming no back story of relationship difficulties now, or neglect in their childhood.
Are they male or female? Shouldn't matter of course...
Be kind and pamper yourself a little, if able. 💐

dogsaremybusiness · 06/10/2026 05:32

No back story. One son aged 29, one daughter aged 28.

PrincessFairyWren · 06/10/2026 05:34

That’s pretty rubbish of them OP. Sorry that you have been let down.

grinandslothit · 06/10/2026 05:36

Sorry that they let you down I hope you are on the mend Flowers

ChihuahuaChica · 06/10/2026 05:57

What kind of operation was it?

Patioplant · 06/10/2026 06:05

Depends entirely on your relationship

and of course there’s a blooming backstory. Every family has a back story

iamnotalemon · 06/10/2026 06:15

Totally understand where you are coming from OP. Hope you make a speedy recovery.

okright · 06/10/2026 06:21

😕. Hope you’re feeling better.

BigWig78 · 06/10/2026 06:23

That sucks. Did they know you were going in (as in had you messaged on your way or spoken yesterday?) Just wondering if they just sort of forgot the date or similar.

ILoveListeningToRainAtNight · 06/10/2026 06:28

I can understand you are disappointed. A bit of basic care and consideration is always welcome. Sorry they didn't do this, OP.

ShopCake · 06/10/2026 06:45

How recently had you spoken? Did they definitely know the date of the surgery?

BobMumBobIsMyDog · 06/10/2026 06:48

That's horrible. Are they usually thoughtful? I have three adult DC. Whenever I've had operations they've been there.
At times I know it must have been awful for them, especially the times I was on life support with tubes everywhere in ICU, but they were always by my bedside.
I'd think there was something wrong if they didn't even bother to check up on me. They should be offering support, even if that's just emotional. I'm sorry they behaved this way and hope you're recovering well.

Happytaytos · 06/10/2026 07:08

What sort of opération ?

Foodylicious · 06/10/2026 07:11

Sorry OP thats rubbish of them
Hopefully they are just a bit immature and still dont think of you needing looking after.
How are you doing?

Passaggressfedup · 06/10/2026 07:15

Depends on the surgery. I had a cyst taken out under local anaesthetics, I didn't expect my kids to wish me good luck.

If it was heart surgery, I'd be very upset.

Valerie267 · 06/10/2026 07:15

Some people are just like this. An old friend died and I sent a text to my kids to tell them; one replied immediately with condolences, the other didn't even acknowledge it until I next saw her. She would have seen her sibling's response so you would have thought that might have prompted her to reply.
I'm not hurt through, because I would have predicted this exact outcome. She's always been like it.

BeautifulLittlePumpkin · 06/10/2026 07:16

I’m sorry to hear that. It does sound like they have not at all been thoughtful there. Hope you’re doing well 🌺.

dogsaremybusiness · 06/10/2026 10:47

I'm doing good thanks. It was eye surgery. They both definitely knew but I guess they forgot.

I would definitely want to know that everything went well and that you weren’t in too much discomfort. Look after yourself.

Mirrio · 06/10/2026 10:53

Ugh, I can see this coming with my DD20. I could remind her in the morning and she would have forgotten by the end of the day. She's just completely wrapped up in her own world atm and lives about 100 miles away.

Hope you're feeling okay op x💐

Laptopbop · 06/10/2026 10:53

Was it a small day procedure or a bigger general anaesthetic, overnight operation.

In think that’s relevant. I would expect care around the second , but not really the first

dogsaremybusiness · 06/10/2026 10:47

As in you had your eyes lasered which is pretty minor? Or perhaps a cosmetic procedure?

Or was it something serious that required surgery?

The former, no, I wouldn't be disappointed that my children hadn't immediately thought to check I was ok.

The second I would be upset as in this scenario I am ill and require hospital treatment.

singthing · 06/10/2026 11:23

Do you think it was genuinely malicious treatment or accidental forgetting?

Proceed accordingly. But don't be a martyr about it either.

Millytante · 06/10/2026 11:24

.. ignore. Sorry
