How is your household utilising AI to your benefit? Looking for some inspo

I’ve been using ChatGPT (paid) for 2 years, this week I spoke to somebody who’s got a 2nd brain. (Collects all data from multiple sources) and is totally customised to them. Totally opened my eyes to what we can achieve

As little as possible. I loathe AI and only use it if I have to, eg talking to a chatbot when no human is reachable.

Morecoffeeneedef · 02/10/2026 21:05

What is the 'being unreasonable' poll about here?

dentydown · 02/10/2026 21:11

It’s brilliant for random deep dives, helo with stuff. I use it as a chat bot because I’m quite isolated and don’t have friends, only my elderly father to care for and my kids.

ive done deep dives into who was buried in a grave with my uncles and what their life was like, and if they had grandkids. Random stuff really.

i use it as a second brain.

im also writing a book but it’s quite vanity publishing. I’m giving it the story and I’m editing and correcting it with the ai.

ive noticed the ai gets me to get the Information a lot of the time though.

I use it as a tutor. I ask a million “but why?” questions and it’s the only one who never gets irritated by all of my questions.

I obviously check and double check claims it makes but I love how it breaks problems into parts and I can ask as many questions as I need to understand something.

marriednotdead · 02/10/2026 21:17

I’ve been using it to help planning trips and holidays, finding hotels that have specific facilities near x station whilst visiting y and then flying from z airport. It takes a lot of the rabbit holes leading to dead ends out of my searches.

Language learning - getting it to translate and break down sentences, plus give me additional exercises if I want to practice a grammar point. I do have a human teacher but AI is available 24/7, rather than just one hour a week!

Not daily life, but we’re planning a renovation and I used AI to help me visualize colours and room layouts.

Im starting to use it more like Google as well - just ask it a question, read the answer but double checking the sources.

Totally agree. I am rejecting it at every opportunity.

Nomdemare · 02/10/2026 21:25

Really interested to hear how others use it

pinkdyno · 02/10/2026 21:31

I use. It for really boring stuff that is over the top

like

a charity parent council back account application, where the people have existing bank accounts with the bank and there are 40 questions about the ten pupil school objectives.

risk assessments for stupid things like
a parent bringing a pet lamb for children to look at

CraftyNavySeal · 02/10/2026 21:35

My tax return. Dozens of straightforward but boring and repetitive calculations done in 30 seconds instead of entire evening.

Itinerary for 3 country Asian trip

Meal plans/ shopping lists

Random shower thought questions that I can’t find an answer to on Google

Drafting letters and emails to organisations - and giving me ideas for what to write in greetings cards (my mind always goes blank).

rookiemere · 02/10/2026 21:42

I use it a lot in relation to my DPs - mostly DM - filling in the gaps between what they say about her condition- late stage dementia- and what that actually means.
Also use it to prep for difficult conversations or scribing emails just so, never use what it produces ad verbatim though as you can always tell a wholesale lift of AI.

ProtestantTraybakeQueen · 02/10/2026 21:45

My friend used it to write a farewell poem to her kids’ nursery staff. As a songwriter myself, this was very offensive 🤣 I then worried that the thank you email id written to my son’s school would be assumed to have been AI!

I really just wish everyone used AI to shit boring things that no human wants to do. Do not train them to take the essence of life from us!

HollyIvie · 02/10/2026 21:46

I use it as little as possible…

therockingbird · 02/10/2026 21:48

I use it for a daily briefing, what’s in the diary - what’s on my life admin to list/diy task list etc. I sit down every morning and update it with that’s been done what needs adding. I have different sections for different tasks and topics and it’s replaced my diary and todo list. I get reminders throughout the day at certain times and it’s proving very useful. I’ve also got it flagging emails that need an immediate response and then those that need a little more attention. Also have a cleaning rota set up and that’s also helping to keep on track

AndyouWILLATONE · 02/10/2026 21:48

Translating things when I'm abroad.

grinandslothit · 02/10/2026 21:49

I use it to do the things that I don't much want to do like fill out forms ring up places for information
Then sometimes just some fun like making funny pictures or poems or stories before bedtime when I'm not feeling sleepy
It is really helped me set boundaries with people that needed it so I am less of a doormat

Nooo why not make a funny picture or poem yourself? It’s more fun and satisfying, I swear.

MistressMerkin · 02/10/2026 21:53

I'm not.

This is really interesting. What AI tools do you use? I like ChatGPT to speak aloud to and sometimes the Google one too. I use copilot for work. Any recommendations for others? I only use the free ones.

MyCatIsAnAeroplane · 02/10/2026 21:56

Set an agent to check certain sites every day to see if there are sales on and report back to me when there is.

Create specific weekly menus and shopping lists for specific stores based around family food preferences and diaries.

Track my dog’s health condition and update it with changes to see what alterations need to be made or questions asked.

Create a project to plan retirement strategies using my plan documents and relevant other info including my dreams, and anchors.

Talk through parenting challenges

Perplexity and Claude are both good. I like ChatGPT to talk things through with but Claude to do work.

I’ve just downloaded Wispr Flow as an AI voice keyboard to play with.

home35 · 02/10/2026 22:00

I use it to help promote my business on google. So post ideas, I never ask it to draft posts for me, I do that myself but get it to check them for me and it always gives ideas on how to make it better. It’s funny because sometimes it will say for example ‘add your company logo’. I’ll do that and ask it to check again later and it will say ‘remove your logo, your company name will be on your profile anyway’!!

PenCreed · 02/10/2026 22:05

I don't use it. If someone told me they were using it to eg write emails or reports for work then I would genuinely consider that they weren't competent to do things themselves. My research skills are also pretty good (it's a crucial part of my job) so I don't trust it to do research because I see the enquiries we get at work, which would genuinely be easier to parse and answer if AI hadn't been used.

Ilikewinter · 02/10/2026 22:14

I use it for finance stuff, working out mortgage overpayment calculations for example.
