Is the "Omnicause" real?

I've noticed an increase of this term across Mnet recently.

Am I the only one who thinks it's a form of "forced teaming"? A nonsense buzzword used by internet culture warriors to sow division? A bogeyman like the Illuminati in the 2010s?

Or is it a real thing?

It's a real thing. There's an evolving assortment of supposedly opressed groups who every right-thinking person must support without examining the actual situation too closely.

And if it is a real thing, is there a right wing omnicause too?

It's real but you've misunderstood it - it's not some conspiracy illuminati thing. Just a concept

Pro Palestine - Pro immigration- Pro Transgenderism Pro-life, anti climate change, anti religion (unless its Islam for some reason) , anti borders etc etc.

Just a bit like boo - hurrah theory. The left seemingly says booo to some things (Israel, Trump etc) and hurrah to others (Pronouns and Mass immigration) without any middle ground or nuance whatsoever.

That's the omnitheory. All the prevalent leftist views are rolled into one and upheld as the ideal constellation that you're cancelled for not subscribing to.

To some extent, but it's more on the fringes whereas on the left the omnicause package is widely adopted by even fairly mainstream activists and politicians.

The rightwing omnicause would include anti-immigration, anti-vaccine, climate change sceptic etc.

I think you need to get off the Internet if you think right wingers are anti vaccine climate-change sceptics. Respectfully that's quite a chronically-online view

As I said, that collection of views is very much on the fringes of right wing politics.

Neither the left nor the right is one homogeneous blob, people are people.

The omnicause is a collection of beliefs / causes, not a name for a group of people. A significant number of people do adopt all of the beliefs in the package, which is why it's a thing.

For example, Just Stop Oil and Sisters Uncut campaigning about Gaza, despite being formed for entirely different causes. Because those causes are all part of the omnicause package.

Identity politics is the idea that every oppressed group has distinct experiences and therefore requires its own unique activism. In that sense it's not very aligned with the omnicause idea. But there's some crossover, e.g. BLM attracted both identity politics activists and Omnicause activists, which caused considerable friction.

You have listed lots of different things, supported and opposed by people across ages, classes and the political spectrum.

That's not an omnicause or an omnitheory. It's not even a concept. It's a mishmash of buzzwords.

The Omnicause is very real - it's the Antifa/ very lefty types - all have a unified number of causes they believe strongly in. They will all be pro trans rights, free Palestine, BLM, no borders, refugees welcome, anti-oil, anti-Islamophobia. It's not a conspiracy, but in political groups like Antifa, University SUs etc, anyone who doesn't follow the Omnicauses will risk being ostracised.

A classic example was the American bloke (name escapes me, can't be bothered to look it up) who had strongly advocated for trans rights, who was shouted out of a trans Pride parade because he was Jewish, and wasn't a supporter of Gaza.

There are some weird crossovers though - for eg, there was a contingent of Free Palestine types at the Filia Conference last year, and a stall selling Hijabs/headscarves - very strange considering Filia is very pro-women's rights and spaces, and biological reality, AND you'd think would balk at the Hijab considering the situation for women's rights in Iran/Afghanistan where it is forced on women.

To take individual weird crossovers and imagine them into a one all encompassing omnicause is nonsense? It's lazy thinking.
