Is the "Omnicause" real?

I've noticed an increase of this term across Mnet recently.

Am I the only one who thinks it's a form of "forced teaming"? A nonsense buzzword used by internet culture warriors to sow division? A bogeyman like the Illuminati in the 2010s?

Or is it a real thing?

Neither the left nor the right is one homogeneous blob, people are people.

No. I wasn't arguing that at all @Dadalus. Just pointing out that it happened under the Tories. Which is a fact.

To some extent, but it's more on the fringes whereas on the left the omnicause package is widely adopted by even fairly mainstream activists and politicians.

The rightwing omnicause would include anti-immigration, anti-vaccine, climate change sceptic etc.

No, that would be people who are radically far right. There are many who are right leaning, centrist right and standard conservative right who very much do not agree with those stances.

The right have always, historically and still today, also always been supporters of free speech. They're allowed to call you a cunt, but you're allowed to say it back too.

Whereas to be left wing at all these days you must embrace very goofy thing they demand, and flawlessly chant the currently approved mantras, or you'll be burned at the stake.

Many of those who are considered right wing now were very much considered left wing just twenty years ago.

The Overton window has shifted so drastically that people pretend not to remember that Obama was very worried about migration numbers flooding the country. Obama was once called the deporter in chief because his administration oversaw the highest number of deportations in U.S. history, removing approximately 3 million undocumented immigrants compared to 2 million under George W. Bush. Critics and some advocacy groups labeled him harsh for this enforcement, particularly as deportation numbers peaked in 2012.

And during the 2010 General Election, Gordon Brown campaigned heavily on controlling migration and deporting illegal immigrants and foreign national offenders - "We have got to be clear that where people break the rules, they will be sent home... Over the last year we have removed someone every eight minutes who had no right to be here."

Nowadays, anyone who even hints that maybe we shouldn't just have an open borders policy is labelled a monstrous racist facist.

But just 15 years ago it was standard left wing policy to deport illegal immigrants and nobody was required to squawk racist every time the perfectly legitimate phrase illegal immigrant was used. Now, it's absolutely demanded that you genuflect at the alter of the omnicause to be left wing at all, as will be witnessed by people calling me a racist and so on and so forth (and I will be oblivous to that, everyone is nowadays).

Just two examples of the many policy shifts towards a dangerously fanatical left wing idealogy. The Omnicause is real.

Most of u did not leave the left. The left left us.

Actually the GRA (the start of the whole gender mess) was introduced by Tony Blair's government. That allowed people to apply for a GRC and change their birth certificates.
Self ID was never passed, although in 2017 it looked like it would be introduced by the Tories - it never was.
The absolute worst parties for supporting gender identity are the Greens, Libdems and the SNP.

Labour right wing? They are promoting "traditional British values" in schools, but are they traditional enough? Perhaps I'm old-school but, understanding traditional British values from the writings of Lord Baden-Powell, hero of Mafeking, author of Scouting for Boys. Of course the Overton window of open borders policy has shifted since the Empire and the British white settler colonies of South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and those misguided Americans who had no respect for monarchy and tea. It really is strange how people want to erase traditional British values.

According to a lot of people I come across on X and on WhatsApp, Keir Starmer was right wing. They seem to think that Andy Burnham is pretending to be left wing but they don't trust him.

These aren't traditional, old school sensible lefties ie the people who would have supported Neil Kinnock or Gordon Brown.

They are the modern self styled progressives - obsessed with identity politics, trans rights and Palestine.

They would have got close to destroying the Labour Party, just as Militant Tendency and Momentum did before them. But many left Labour to join Corbyn's Your Party. When that fell apart, they moved onto the Green Party. Others went straight from Labour to Green. I shouldn't imagine there are many omnicause extremists left in the Labour Party.
