Orgasm headache - A&E?!

Sorry for the TMI but I'll get it over with quickly.

90 mins or so ago my Saturday morning lie in ended in the way it often does, with a masturbation induced orgasm.

immediately afterwards,.for the first time in my life, a thunderclap headache.

I have read about these before (including on here). I now feel fine, and have since got up, had some toast, had a shower etc. exactly as normal. But I have googled it and it said that if it's the first time I should go to A&E immediately! This seems to go against the advice on here, and I feel absolutely fine now as if nothing happened.

I really don't want to spend the day in a&e but I also really don't want to die! AIBU to ignore Dr Google (who also told me I had skin cancer when I was actually just wearing the wrong clothes in hot weather) or do I really need to have the world's most embarrassing trip to a&e?

Thunderclap headaches are a medical emergency.

You can't know if you've had a hemorrhage without a scan.

Has it fully dissipated now? What happens when you sit / stand / shake your head?

This happened to my now DH maybe 2 weeks into dating. Mortifying for all involved - had to regain excruciating detail about sex position etc. He was fine - just a powerful orgasm - but A&E took it extremely seriously and fast tracked him through as they were concerned about a brain haemorrhage

Shit. Yes it's fully dissipated. It did after about a minute. I have been absolutely fine since and had a normal Saturday morning. I have sat at the breakfast table, stood in the shower, climbed the stairs, and I've just seen my head now as I type this! All fine.

Firstly, if you absolutely certain it was a Thunderclap headache, it doesn’t matter if it has dissipated now, it still needs to be checked as there is a risk of recurrence, silent bleed etc - and there is a prime diagnosis window.
Secondly, stop focusing on the ‘cause’ because you might be wrong and it could have been a coincidence. And it’s not embarrassing anyway, certainly not to the medical professionals, and you can overcome yours.

Dr Google should also have told you that these headaches are very rare. You'll be fine.

I'm not sure what defines a "thunderclap" headache, but that sounds a lot like a cluster headache.

It was at the base of my head. Yes intense pain. Maybe I am misusing the term thunderclap but I Googled orgasm headache and it mentioned urgent a&e if it hasn't happened before (which it's not).

Phone 111 and discuss. We can't really judge the clinical need tbh - I'm not a Dr, but I've had many decades of migraine, cluster headache and ice pick headache but only one orgasm induced instant headache. It was fine but that doesn't mean everyone else's are!

Is it an accident, no.
Is it an emergency, also no.

A&E for a brief headache after a wank?! I've heard it all now.

Ah, I get icepick headaches at the top or side of my head. Last seconds. Docs not worried about mine.
As yours are in a different place I'd try 111.

A thunderclap headache can be deadly, it is indeed an emergency. If it's a thunderclap headache.

The point is that it might be an emergency. And yes it was a wank but that involves increased heartbeat and other things that could happen under other circumstances so I can kind of see Google's point. But other threads on here suggest differently and i do feel fine now .

111? Telephone operators medically untrained with a script? Maybe call a GP receptionist for triage as well?

This happened to me a couple of times years ok and dissipated after a few minutes. It was very frightening at the time but its never happened again

This is the reason you should not ask on here. None of us have x-ray eyes and there will always be bad advice like this. Trust your gut or at least call the professionals on 111.

I had exactly this, the pain was excruciating and actually thought I was dying. I did end up going to A&E but once I said it was straight after orgasm they said it happens sometimes and weren't too worried. Can't remember what tests they did - think they did bloods and some basic cognition stuff.. no scan that i can remember. Haven't had it since, thankfully. Was terrifying

I've learned to never Google symptoms, only ever go on the NHS website.
Btw I've felt the earth move before never induced a headache !
