So get off it. Delete your account.
Put your phone in a cupboard. Ask yr DP or anyone to change yr password.
It's good for mine.

Do normal people not browse the internet using a computer?

seventeenofsumday · Yesterday 16:04

This thread (well the first page of comments anyway) demonstrates exactly how mumsnet is often not a very supportive or positive environment for someone struggling 😂😂😂 people will nit pic and argue over absolutely fuck all, derail threads because of ridiculous pedantic pile ons, and it does seem by reading a lot of threads people just sit waiting to stick the knife in or chastise the op /pp for no reason.

You are denying my reality and lived experience.

very sad, never mind.

Augustus40 · Yesterday 16:06

Try reddit. It is really good. I use mumsnet less often these days.

I've been on MN for 21 years, since my first child was a baby. It used to be full of very helpful and friendly folk (and still is on certain boards) yet the last few years has seen an increase in mean bullies.

I have tried coming off so many times but despite those horrible posters I still find myself coming back time and again. It's like a bloody addiction.

I have found the most helpful and kind people are on Reddit. I am on several sub-reddits and they have helped me through some tough times.

I haven't used a computer to access mumsnet for many years!

I do use a browser for Internet in work, but never for personal use.

Every now and again I go on to Tattle Mumsnet and read the latest comments.

They're generally really funny and just too true. It makes it easier to laugh at some of the comments on MN.

burgerbeast · Yesterday 16:23

I like it as it feels like chatting and gives insights onto how other people think about things. There was a period when loads of threads seemed to get deleted that I'd contributed to and that annoyed me as it felt like I had wasted my time. Doesn't seem to happen as much now but I also don't post much.

To you it was clear.

It was completely clear.

She really doesn’t. It was perfectly clear.

I think this spat on page one is proving OP's point about this place being bad for MH 😂

Have you thought about taking in some ironing ?

That made me laugh out loud!

Oh god, that might stop me posting on here!

I agree op, I find it so strange how addicted I get sometimes and I have to step away then- as in my first port of call is to put in mumsnet as opposed to my email which I need to check. Also I think you need time off if you find yourself thinking about things on mn when real life is going on around you- fine when you have free time (eg now- day off work, not putting on dinner yet, kids getting changed etc so sitting at the kitchen table). Also I think if you feel like getting into a long argument with a poster, it’s time to get away!!!

Saying that s and b is amazing, as are the pets, chat - they’ve been a lifeline to me, and I got amazing cleaning advice here, and found people who had issues with work that was the exact same I had. I’ve also vented here and god it’s helped!!

Is it not difficult to write in mumsnet using a phone?

FringedAnd · Yesterday 16:41

A friend of mine felt the same, OP. She used to be on here a lot when her children were small, but said she realised over time that the frequent posts criticising parenting and children's public behaviour if not exemplary, amplified her own tendency to self-criticism, as her sons were frequently difficult -- it turned out that they were both autistic (many years later, both she and her husband got the same diagnosis in their 40s), but this was a while ago, when diagnoses were later.

I remember her saying that every time she did whatever it took to get around the supermarket without a meltdown (letting the children ride in the shopping trolley or whatever) she heard a 'Mumsnet voice' condemning it in her head, and it made everything worse. So she deleted her account.

ETA to say that she's a genuinely stoical person, too!

I don't find it difficult, no.

Wish I did tbh, as it might make it easier to break the habit..

Oh, don't go, @MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack -- you always seem like a beacon of sanity, plus I like your username.

Yep.

Lothianlotharian · Yesterday 16:47

Me too,op. I had no idea so many people were so horrible

PurpleLovecats · Yesterday 16:47

I don’t engage with posts that irritate me these days. So I avoid any anti-trans content and ditto pro-Farage stuff.

BotoxOrPuffins · Yesterday 16:50

I managed to delete all my social media years ago, including Facebook and IG. So easy and so grateful and feel much better for it. But Mumsnet is too hard! It's like crack.

Dumbledora8 · Yesterday 16:50

smallglassbottle · Yesterday 14:58

Oh I see. It wasn't very clear tbh.

I think it was very clear. It's posters that you who probably have a negative impact on people's mental health. Writing shitty responses for no real purpose.

Greedybilly · Yesterday 16:51

Social media in general is so bad for us and we're all bloody addicted! I put my phone in another room /out of sight and do other things to stop me wasting my life ( still do a lot of that too obvs ;))

Crispychillifriedbeef · Yesterday 16:56

Especially during Covid and certain people banging on about killing a granny or something.
