$5k to vote Republican

SevenYellowHammers · 10/09/2026 12:18

To ask any citizens of the USA what y’all gonna do with your $5k? Probably not enough to resettle in Canada, so candles, hurricane lamps, bottled water and tinned food?

I don’t understand how it can be legal. And also if everyone has 5k then surely that 5k won’t be worth much.

Legal isn’t a consideration for him. They can afford it ($135 trillion) . He’ll use tariff money. And this is what happens when you polemicise politics. Democrats are seen as weak, leftie, woke, pro choice and rendered helpless. We’re going to end up like them.

Trump getting desperate.

Summerhillsquare · 10/09/2026 13:11

'Treating the voters' is illegal of course.

But politics is increasingly about the vibes. Plus he's stacked the Supreme Court and the Republicans have failed to retrain him.

He seems to do what he likes. Is he a dictator?

Hope so. Hope it means his days are numbered

BelleEpoque27 · 10/09/2026 13:27

Anyone who believes they will actually get this money is too stupid to be alive.

Of course it's illegal. Add it to the list.

GeneralPeter · 10/09/2026 13:30

It’s a pretty awful way to do politics/policy.

But is it any different in principle from politicians offering big tax cuts, or big benefits increases, to win votes?

(I think morally it becomes an issue when it’s heavily debt-funded, ie screwing those who come later becuase they can’t vote).

I guess there’s a kind of mad honesty to it. I take your point. But nevertheless…

Oh dear. That’s a lot of red baseball caps if they die of stupidity.

No one is getting 5k

ghostyslovesheets · 10/09/2026 14:12

Probably enough to buy some eggs, fill up the car and pay for a doctor visit!

In UK, we’re still waiting for the prosperity Brexit was going to bring

Yup, stiiillll waiting.

I don't believe that anyone will get their £5k. If old farty pants wins he will find a way to avoid paying out and a way to blame it on the Democrats/the Mexicans/illegal immigrants or Prince Harry.

Scattery · 10/09/2026 15:05

I think there is a nonzero chance of the midterms being cancelled altogether because of some "emergency" Trump makes up. Great excuse to not pay the 5k as well.

Unfortunately, there will be a subset of people who will believe him anyway. A fair amount of posters here on Mumsnet were banging on about how Trump will be great for business, and that Project 2025 wouldn't go ahead, because he "said so." Cool. Been great so far, hasn't it, with Hormuz closed?

It’s not his fault we’re skint. It’s Meghan’s, a few shivering refugees, the RNLI and some people on disability benefits

The artiicle says he previously promised $2000 each which never materialised.

Yet many will pretend to believe this new promise too.

Also, Trump says he 'would' offer it. So there conditions attached to the promise which I suspect will be made up after the mid terms.

So do you actually have to vote republican to get it? And how will he know? Very spooky!

I notice that the House of Representatives has been sent home prematurely again, in order to avoid scrutiny of the Trumpstein Files.

It's amazing how many people trust a convicted fraudster, who has bankrupted several casinos.

Nofeckingway · 10/09/2026 23:40

Great. Just say you did, get the $5k. Because he always tells the truth right. Arsehole

I think many Americans will believe this; turn another blind eye. This presidency has been the most openly corrupt political show, it will make for a good comedic movie someday in the not so distant future.
In the mean time I believe it will take a lifetime to clean up all the damage he has caused.
