$5k to vote Republican

SevenYellowHammers · 10/09/2026 12:18

To ask any citizens of the USA what y’all gonna do with your $5k? Probably not enough to resettle in Canada, so candles, hurricane lamps, bottled water and tinned food?

Well it’s stopped the talk about the mess he made with Iran and his 9/11 claims

SevenYellowHammers · 11/09/2026 00:42

He is unbelievable. How much longer can he go on?

It's not a payment or reward to any individual for voting Republican, but a one-time payment to all US voters that will only be implemented IF the Republicans retain control of both houses of Congress in the upcoming midterms. The way it would work is that a bill to make a one time $5000 payment to each US adult would be drawn up now and presented to Congress when it reconvenes after the midterms. Since the condition is that the Republicans control the House and Senate, both houses could theoretically pass the legislation, get instant Presidential approval, and pay the money out immediately. (Trump already tried to pay out $2000 pp earlier this year and was told he needed the approval of Congress - but there IS precedent for Congress approving a one-time payout, as they did during COVID although that was a smaller amount.)

IF this were to proceed and be carried out, people would be eligible for the payment no matter how they voted, and even if they did not vote as long as they were eligible to vote. Basically it's being presented as a campaign promise - if Republicans are in power, they'll make this payment because they understand that people need it but if they are not in power then of course they won't have the ability to do this (or the obligation to keep a campaign promise).

The point is to create a distraction, to influence people who genuinely don't care about politics but want $5000, and to set up a "Republicans give/Democrats take away" narrative regardless of who "wins". In the event that this actually DOES happen, it's the taxpayers paying for it anyway. If the Dems did it, they'd be accused of "communism".

maxslice · 11/09/2026 01:12

Well, the thing is, I’m still waiting for the $2K Trump assured everyone they would get as the result of his tariffs. And I’m waiting for Mexico to pay for the wall. So many, many ridiculous broken promises. And the most important thing, my vote cannot be bought. In fact I‘ve read paying someone to vote a certain way is illegal. I hope the Democratic candidates win all the midterm elections by a clear landslide. Which Trump will inevitably deny. The man is a monster.

He seems to do what he likes. Is he a dictator?

Doing his best to be one. And the people around him allow it.

11AndCounting · 11/09/2026 01:31

So the average American is only worth 1/26th of a Stormy Daniels?

Anyway, the announcement has gone down like a lead balloon even among his base, and I don't think anyone believes it. Its just another of his near-daily, headline-grabbing nonsense stunts.

Its only a couple of days since he was pretending he was at ground zero in thr 9/11 aftermath.

A few days before it was Lake America.

It'll be some other dumb shit tomorrow.

Can't wait until he's dead, tbh.

Yes. He is a dictator.

SpuytenDuyvil · 11/09/2026 01:45

Never. Going. To. Happen.

merrymelody · 11/09/2026 01:50

Trump’s panicking. Good.

Lizzieregina · 11/09/2026 01:51

I’m still waiting for my doge rebate and my tariff rebate!

And mostly I’m waiting for November 3, which I hope will be the beginning of the end for him and his maggots.

I was discussing with DH, and what I would really like to happen is for him and his spawn to lose every penny they have and have to learn how to live like the poor people in the US that they put the screws to every day.

please god I’ll live to see it!

Theolittle · 11/09/2026 02:58

And US Treasury Bonds have hit highest yields for nearly 20 years. I thought the Republicans were more interested in balancing the books? Are there no morals anymore in the US? Is noone calling him out on this?

BridgeNewton · 11/09/2026 03:18

He never paid out on the $5000, $2000 and $1000 'dividends' that he promised in the past and he won't pay out on this one, even if a) the Republicans win the mid-terms and b) the counntry could afford it.

He is an inveterate liar and how people are still dumb enough to believe anything he says is beyond me.

Ratherhaveacupofteaandabiscuit · 11/09/2026 03:41

I laughed when I read this on the news. How pathetic and desperate.

Then I stopped laughing because this is exactly what will appeal to his stupid fans so it just might work.

Clearly buying votes is immoral and must be illegal but that has never stopped him before.

There is no law in America now but Trump.

It is a dictatorship in all but name.

I fully expect him to rename the place Trumpland anytime soon.

Don’t forget trying to rename New Mexico “New America”.

I wish everyday someone would call him out and put him in prison. I got so angry and sad about Trump that I asked Google why God doesn’t stop this criminally dangerous monomaniac. Google said, “It’s a mystery.” There we are then.

MyManinCaracas · 11/09/2026 04:44

I’m stupidly hopeful for the midterms; there’s a few strong Democrats running for the Senate, including one in Texas. And we have serious presidential material in the Georgia candidate, Jon Ossoff.

Me too, and then I’m also so worried that we won’t win enough and he’ll never be stopped. I console myself that he’s old and unhealthy and nature will eventually take its course.

In addition to being optimistic for Texas and Georgia, I’m extremely hopeful that the perpetually “concerned” Susan Collins in Maine will be toast!

MyManinCaracas · 11/09/2026 05:10

I’m concerned she has no principles!

He needs to pay E. Jean Carol her 5 million first.

5k - in the form of a voucher for Trump University, redeemable against a 1m investment in Trump crypto.

Honestly America, what the fuck were you on with this one?

JennyForeigner · 11/09/2026 06:22

Er... Why has a comment saying 'redeemable against a spend of 1m in Trump crypto' been flagged?

Is Mumsnet advertising Trump crypto now?

shecanbe · 11/09/2026 07:53

It is pure and blatant desperation for votes. The wheels are coming off... Insane man in insane times.

shecanbe · 11/09/2026 07:58

The strangest thing is that none if his 'advisers' or anyone around him seem capable of calling it. A real 'Emperors New Clothes' situation. US will have a job to regain any credibility on the global stage after all this craziness.

Any mention of the "c" word that refers to digital currencies will get flagged. Presumably to prevent bots trying to peddle scams.

Fewer than 30% of American adults voted for him, so 70% of us weren’t “on” anything!!

Of the people who did get out and vote, he still got less than 50%. Most people don’t want him or his BS!
