Netflix prices are going up again. The last price rise wasn't so long ago.

I'm already on the basic netflix package. As I am with Disney. I get Prime free, as i use Amazon delivery lots. Nothing else.

I realise £2pm increase isn't that much, but £7.99pm sounds and feels a lot more than the £4.99 i was paying 2 years ago for the same service.

I also realise i don't have to subscribe, but there is the occasional great series that is unmissible.

I miss the days of 4 channels. I miss the days where subscription services only charged 1 fee for an ad free service.

I understand why so many of my friends and family have got dodgy boxes.

AIBU thinking netflix are pushing their luck here and will lose customers as a result?

Cancelled Netflix two days ago. The absolute garbage on there of late doesn't justify the current price, let alone an increase.

DH sees a lot of bank statements from his clients. The amount of subscription services most people pay for is huge (base is mostly younger clients). So yes, Netflix will start taking more, and people just let them.

Personally we have Prime & I can still piggyback off a couple DM has. Other than that we don't bother as we aren't around enough to watch much tv. Logged into one last night. Haven't been on it in months. Nothing to watch except dull character dramas & reality tv shows. Turned it off.

And honestly, if you’d asked me, I wouldn’t have had a clue what Netflix costs.

Nexflix in Ireland varies from €10.99 to €23.99 currently! They are all going up by €2 a month apart from the cheapest plan which is going up €1 a month. Can’t get over how much some of ye are paying per month in total for streaming services!!

We will probably cancel, DH is the only one who occasionally watches it out of a family of 5, and we have Disney and Prime as well. I just never have time to watch it.

Either pay up or shut up. I am sick of people thinking that they should have this or that at a price, they like.

I cancelled it a while ago and don't miss it. Most of the "documentaries" are bloated voiceover exercises and the film selection is not great. If they get another good series I might have it for a bit but I'm not paying monthly after month for bloody adverts lol.

Yeah you are right about the growth, however the rate is slower and has plateaued in the last couple of years, with most new customers signing up to the cheaper ad-tier. Where do they go from here though? Once that group are priced out, they’re priced out, and subscriber numbers will only have one way to go.

in a few years their model will be exactly where we were with satellite and cable, long term lock-in, high prices (I wonder if they will do away with no ads at some point?), and a mix of live, episodic and on-demand television.

And thus the cycle will be complete!

I think Netflix is the best price for value. What I really need to do is cancel the TV license at £15 a month, so treble the current Netflix price and double NOW and Apple price! Shame as I do enjoy a few programmes but the Beeb fee has ramped up so will use the money toward the gym instead to get out and about in Winter evenings.

Doesn't bother us my oldest and DH went to the cinema for the first time in years a few weeks ago and at 7.99 x 2 yep that's why we have Netflix where the whole family can enjoy what they want to watch

The other way to spend less is rotate your subscriptions and only have one or two at a time. When you start getting bored, pause and switch. Only have Sports when its F1 season.

Also look out for deals. We're coming to the end of a year's half price (Black Friday deal) of both Now TV and Paramount Plus, which in hindsight I regret taking up because we haven't watched them as much as I thought.

But we will be cancelling when we can and then taking up Netflix for a while as there's a few things I want to watch on there. However Netflix is one service that doesn't seem to offer deals or at least didn't last time I looked which admittedly has to be a couple of years ago at least. Now TV always offers cheaper prices especially if you try to cancel. I've often seen deals on some of the others too.

i have never seen a deal for Netflix, they also don't do a cheaper yearly price which I often choose to pay with some of the others, also I have never seen a free week trial for it.

They lost me because of this policy. I live away with work during the week and home on weekends and this meant that I couldn’t watch in both places. I suspect that there are many situations where people live between two places (like students)

I didn’t receive any notification of this price rise. When was it announced?

Disney is the same, I have been scuppered at home with 'This television is not part of your household'. Lucky I also have a different device I can use the app from.

I don’t really have an issue with paying Netflix as I’ve enjoyed a lot of shows they’ve made with that money, unlike the BBC! But then I can remember paying around £25 a month for sky back in the 90’s. How cheap do we expect things to be? They are a business after all and you can choose to pay or not, unlike the BBC that people were forced to pay for decades (if you wanted to watch any TV) before we finally had an option not to.

I can still remember the cost of a lot of things in the 90s as that is when I hit adulthood and paid for it all myself! And so many things are either cheaper full stop now or have comparatively not gone up much. But that was 30+ years ago now. Yet we expect things to be cheaper than ever. Probably because the basics like housing, utilities, food etc have risen so much. That’s the actual scandal. Not Netflix charging a couple of quid more a month.

We've gone back to boxsets and dvd.

It was getting ridiculous for all of the apps every month. Far cheaper to just buy, and actually own, what we want to watch.

The only one we have kept is viki rakuten (dd is k and c-drama obsessed) but that is very cheap anyway.

It's inevitable really! There are only so many people who will subscribe to a service and probably pretty much everyone who will, has by this point. Netflix will have taken on massive corporate debt making it's own originals so now they need to look for new levers, hence the ads and password sharing crackdowns.

I also cancelled a while back. There was nothing much we wanted to watch and we don't miss it at all.

Couldn't give up the BBC though!

We have all of the subscriptions going but basically struggle all of the time to find something to watch. I think there’s just too much choice. Netflix is the worst for it, every time I go on I just end up doom scrolling for ages then get frustrated and give up. I think the last series on there we watched was Stranger Things. I don’t even know when it aired, must be a year ago now near enough? I don’t know why we’re paying it. We have Now TV including the movies too but that’s rubbish. Looking forward to Bake Off and Traitors.

The cheapest Netflix package (with ads) has jumped from £5.99 to £7.99 monthly. The £2 a month is the highest rise on any of their plans. It's a bit surprising that they've targeted those customers, as obviously many of them are going to be very price-conscious and it might cause them to rethink their membership, whereas you would think that those on the top all bells-and-whistles package would be less likely to notice an extra £2 monthly.

The sums involved might seem small, but it's actually a 33% increase, and I'm not sure how they justify that? With all the different streaming services added together the bills just keep getting bigger and bigger, and something's got to give.
