Netflix prices are going up again. The last price rise wasn't so long ago.

I'm already on the basic netflix package. As I am with Disney. I get Prime free, as i use Amazon delivery lots. Nothing else.

I realise £2pm increase isn't that much, but £7.99pm sounds and feels a lot more than the £4.99 i was paying 2 years ago for the same service.

I also realise i don't have to subscribe, but there is the occasional great series that is unmissible.

I miss the days of 4 channels. I miss the days where subscription services only charged 1 fee for an ad free service.

I understand why so many of my friends and family have got dodgy boxes.

AIBU thinking netflix are pushing their luck here and will lose customers as a result?

We haven’t had Netflix for a while now. Can’t say I miss it, not that I watched it much anyway really.

We have standard no ads upgrade from Sky, looks like it's going up £1, I wonder if Sky will put it up

It's pushed me over the edge.

I can very easily afford the increase, but it's the principle. We're spending almost £60 a month on TV subscriptions, including prime, and its ridiculous. I always refused to get sky because I felt it was a waste of money so I don't know why we do it. I recently cancelled Disney plus and MGM and paramount but we still have netflix and hbo and apple TV. I think I'll cancel them all for a while. Get Disney again when rivals comes out. I could do with watching less TV.

We are. The amount of times I've trawled it looking for something to watch and given up, I was already considering it and this seals it for me. We've got prime because of the deliveries and DH watches a lot on Disney plus, I just don't think there's a need for all of it and netflix sealed their fate

Oooh, that's a bit of a jump. I paid £4.99 a month for Netflix with ads/the basic package when I joined about 2 years ago, and it shot up to £5.99 rather sharpish. (Early 2025 I think.) Now it's going to be £7.99 for the basic package?! Bit annoyed, but I will still have it because I get a lot of use out of it.

(Used to use my DD's Netflix for some 6 or 7 years but they stopped the sharing, so I went for the cheapest package.)

We spend over £200 a month on sky. It’s another thing that starts at a reasonable price but goes up and up. Netflix is v cheap compared to that

I was a bit pissed off with Disney though and would have cancelled if we didn't get it free with Sky. It suddenly decided that our TV was not part of our household, I went round in lots of circles to no avail and had to use the app on a different device. I'm glad I'm not paying for it.

Their offerings don't impress us anymore. We cancelled and got paramount instead. Now moving to snother for new stuff. We bounce around, binge, bounce again.

I’ll probably finally cancel it. There’s absolutely nothing on there I actually want to watch but I keep paying for it every month like an idiot. I’m much happier with The Criterion Channel and Mubi. I’ve literally spend over an hour searching for something to watch only to give up in the end with Netflix.

Do you get that from NOW TV or where?

I think we will cancel and then start rotating them for a month each rather than have all of them. I think we have all but apple.

Apart from the £180 a year TV licence fee of course so nearly twice as much as Netflix.

We have several of these via the sky package (included not free!) and I wouldn’t pay individually for any of them. The only reason we have Sky is that the broadband and phone is via them so the extra for the tv, and I got free sports too is ok. We watch bbc most of all

Is their market share growing in the UK? Other markets will have prices that reflect location so aren’t necessarily paying what we do in the UK. I would wager our subscriptions are amongst the most expensive globally. We are not a bottomless money pit and people will start to walk away soon.

My family will be walking when the price goes up, we are on a subscription break right now and haven’t missed it. Actually is making me think if we need subscription services at all, just seem to be a money pit these days! And when you come to watch something there’s never anything to watch, or what you do want to watch isn’t available without another subscription. Most evenings I just have a scroll online, or read a book. Only the weekends we really have time to watch much, and then it’s just an opportunity to spend some more money for the illusion of choice

Cancelling mine, not so much for the price rise, but barely watch it anyway so pointless paying more for something I don’t use

£4.99 was great £5.99 doable, but it would have to be something great on there that id really want to watch for £7.99. I watch lots free on Prime without needing a subscription, I also watch Tubi for free films and TV, and watch lots on YouTube for free including films.

I pay for a LOT of streaming services -
Disney+ without ads
Prime without ads plus the paramount+ without ads channel add on
Netflix without ads (tier above standard to allow multi screen and an extra £5 a month to add on my Sister at a different address)
Entertainment, movies, and sports packages (i need my F1 and its the most expensive subscription/add on) and boost for 2 screens from Now tv (who are very good with deals if you go through the cancellation steps for entertainment and movie packages)

It is probably costing me about £120 a month all in, BUT we don't have a TV service like sky or virgin, me and my dad are on them constantly, and my sister uses them a lot too. We definitely get my monies worth out of them as all 3 disabled and stuck at home basically 24/7, so it's my "luxury" where others have meals out, get hair or nails done, nights out, cinema, theatre etc, plus i like being able to share them with my dad and sister.

I'm not sure what price point they would have to bump it to for me to actually cancel, or even revert down to base tier with ads, i hate ads!

They're gaining about 2 million subscribers per year in the UK. Price rises have made no change to this.

It's like £15 a month now...
