Bought clothes from Vinted the they stink

I bought come toddler joggers for 2-3 years old and they smell of a sweat bo smell. Maybe I’m being overly fussy but I feel like all Vinted clothes smell like this - adults generally.

i have a bag of clothes I’ve bought from other sellers and they seem ok.

i have done an oxy soak for an hour and two washes. can’t smell it fresh out the washing machine but maybe will when dry/worn.

I grew up in poverty and had to wear other people’s hand-me-downs. As an adult I can’t bear it, it causes me visceral disgust to think of someone else’s bodily fluids having been on clothes 🤢 All my clothes I bought new and I replace them as and when I need to, just a couple of items per year usually. I would never, ever wear second hand clothes again. Life is just too short. I bin all of my old stuff too.

Charity shops have standards unlike some sellers on vinted that cleared out a rubbish bag somewhere.
Not all sellers but you do get pisstaking prices for crap sometimes.
Anyway the good thing is that people will go back to charity shops.

I'm sorry that you grew up in poverty but also glad that not everyone is as wasteful with clothes.

I haven't bought a 'new' pair of jeans for at least 20 years - always buy them secondhand from Ebay and never had a problem

I just put everything from Vinted through the washing machine before wearing and it gets rid of any smell, but maybe I'm less sensitive than some.

Written by someone who understands chemistry, and carefully detailing what to use in the soak, wash etc. It removes the body oils, so will remove BO smell and associated stains. The process is a little involved but it's quite cathartic seeing what comes out (the clothes, and the water).

I’ve never had this problem on vinted.

I can understand not buying second hand clothes but why on earth wouldn't you donate them?

Everything I sell is wrapped in tissue paper and in a proper mailing bag. Buy a bulk order of mailing bags from Amazon

This - sometimes 2nd hand stuff smells of various things, you can either wash those items well (which personally, I'd always do before wearing anyway...), or stop buying 2nd hand. There are many bigger problems in the world than having to wash clothes you got really cheap 😁

I wouldn't call it " steam clean " but the post was correct . I volunteered in my local charity shop and we steamed all clothes that came into the shop .
It obviously doesn't get rid of stains ( we wouldn't sell those ) but many shops steam the clothes to get rid of wrinkles and kill bugs & bacteria .
I'd assume most places do it .

They buy in bulk and sell in bits. I’m thinking that’s why those clothes smell.

It’s understandable on adult clothes. Some people have such bad BO it’s literally
impossible to remove from the armpit region. I guess these joggers were washed with a stinky adult’s clothing and the bacteria has stuck or perhaps stuck in a wash basket with them for some time. There isn’t much you can do to fully lift it once it’s engrained in the fabric, it’s worse on polyester.

And @AnchorWHAT it’s Wilton detergent, I got it in Waitrose, I think Ocado sell it and some Sainsburys. I also really like the M&S own label bio detergent, sandalwood and cedar, that also ‘hugs’ the washing gently but well. Washed my flax linen sheets yesterday and line dried for eight hours and they still smelled gorgeous getting in last night. You may have seen Tallow and Ash brand on SM, I’ve tried them and they smell nice in the bottle but that’s all.

I only ever buy 'new with tags' or 'new without tags', I'm even more likely to buy it if it's from a 'smoke and pet free house'.
But I've only ever purchased clothes/shoes for my toddler and not for myself.

Second hand shoes give me the heebie jeebies. Even for toddlers. You can often find toddler shoes for under a tenner in sales. Second hand grosses me out most of the time now.

The kids threw a disposable nappy in the washing machine once..... But yes we used a stream cleaner in the charity shop was hard work but fun. Lucky only have had 2 bad things of vinted stinking of smoke ugh. Most are over done on fabric conditioner. Soak in Dettol, wash and leave out in the rain normally takes all the smells away!
