AIBU to think moustaches rarely improve a man's appearance?

There is no man on earth who’s looks are improved by the addition of facial hair.

Can someone please tell the young lads with the 1970s ‘taches that they look bloody awful?

My DH looks amazing with his beard, he started it about 8 years ago when he’d had an op and couldn’t be bothered to shave. It’s possible I’m biased though.

Agree that a moustache on its own looks awful. However men who don’t have a defined jawline tend to look better with some facial hair imo.

Yes you see with a beard (that I also loathe) I always assume they are trying to cover up some sort of unattractive facial feature with their beard. It makes them seem a bit underhand.

I agree. The only man who can carry off a ‘tache is an insanely handsome 20-something gay man who looks like a woodcut of a Victorian pervert.

The Tom Selleck variety makes them look like they are wearing a sea caterpillar on their upper lip.

Generally I agree, but Bennett (villain in Commando) looks better with his tache.

Beards are hideous especially on older men it makes them look about 20 years older I don't think they realize that

There isn't a man alive who doesn't look better with a trimmed full beard. I can give or take moustaches, depends on the face, but I love beards. I also love hairy chests on men.

I like facial hair on a man, when well groomed. Some styles do just look dated to me (handlebars and mutton chops, and the horseshoe moustache of the eighties), while Amish beards are ugly (why shave off the moustache?), but otherwise I like stubble, moustaches, circle beards (a goatee and moustache), and short, full beards.

You should always see a man clean shaven before you marry him though, imo - just to make sure he isn't hiding anything under the beard 😂

But then I also like a hairy man generally, especially the chest. Not the sort where it's a full, tangled thicket that a mouse could get trapped and die in, but moderately hairy is nice. I don't even mind a bit of shoulder/back/belly hair on a well-built older man. It's very masculine and rugged. Not so appealing on someone short and skinny, though 🤔

However, I may be in the minority there, especially as a millennial.

What I cannot stand are beards without moustaches! I always associate that look with the Amish and Islamists. Not my cup of tea at all.

Each to their own, but I do like a man with a beard providing its neatly trimmed. My husband has one and a hairy chest to boot.

On the whole I would agree. However - I give you Rowan Atkinson in Blackadder II. I think facial hair improved him and to me it was only in that role that he was attractive.

I completely agree. Moustaches are awful. There are a few examples on this thread but they are all very very handsome men who would have looked just as fine without a tache.

Unshaven look is sexy, can't stand moustache or full beard.

There are the odd men I find attractive with proper facial hair but very few. Quite a few of my friends love men with beards but it really gives me the ick.
