AIBU to think £1,000 is reasonable for nearly new DFS sofas?

I bought new sofas from DFS a couple of months ago and have decided I don't like them.

It's a current range (New Libby) and consists of a 3 seater, 2 seater and matching storage footstool. They're basically as new and cost me around £3,000 altogether including the fabric protection. No damage or stains etc.

I know I'm obviously going to take a hit selling them secondhand, but I'm trying to work out what would be a realistic asking price.

If you were looking for sofas and these were currently around £3k new, what would you genuinely expect/pay for them at only a couple of months old?

I'm thinking maybe advertise around £1,000. Am I being wildly optimistic? 😂

We have a huge 3 seater sofa (bought new 25 years ago) and a chair. Then we bought a second hand sofa for 75, from a friend, and that became the favourite sofa in the room for years! I never gave a thought to fleas, bedbugs or farts
Then we replaced with a sofa from John Lewis which I got on 12 months free credit, paid monthly....so i never had to pay a lot in one go.

All my second hand sofa have cost <£150. Generally because people don’t know if they’re full of carpet moths, covered in secret semen stains or if you’ve done something weird to it

yes but you bought the sofa ffrom a friend. Presumably you had visited their house more than once before you bought it?

Carpet moth is an interesting one....I know someone who had to get rid of every natural fibre item in the house and move out for a few days while the house was treated because of carpet moth. Luckily the home insurance paid but it was a total nightmare

No. I knew her from the gym we belonged to. Id probably run with her or chatted 100 times but we hadnt socialised outside of that context so not been to her house

it's a sad reflection of the modern world that we are generally happy to get a decade of use out of a sofa. Should last a lifetime really, minimum.

Sorry OP but people who have a grand in cash for a sofa will probably buy new for the ease of choice and delivery. People buying second hand want/need a bargain and won't have a grand lying around + a few hundred for a van.

I got an almost new DFS French Connection sofa and chair on fb marketplace for £100. It was discontinued and in a bright colour so I had an alert set for one matching the right description and snapped it up.

I think £1000 just psychologically feels like a big amount for something second hand. I'm guessing most people would have to sort out a van as well for collection.

Maybe £900 sounds a bit less daunting? Make sure you say how much they are worth new when you advertise.

Not necessarily. I think we've bought six or seven antique/vintage sofas over the years and only two (a pair) have come from a shop. We've never sat on any of the others or inspected them before purchase as they were eBay buys, all long distance. None had been reupholstered either as part of our reason for purchase was them having the original, fairly unique upholstery.
