AIBU to think £1,000 is reasonable for nearly new DFS sofas?

I bought new sofas from DFS a couple of months ago and have decided I don't like them.

It's a current range (New Libby) and consists of a 3 seater, 2 seater and matching storage footstool. They're basically as new and cost me around £3,000 altogether including the fabric protection. No damage or stains etc.

I know I'm obviously going to take a hit selling them secondhand, but I'm trying to work out what would be a realistic asking price.

If you were looking for sofas and these were currently around £3k new, what would you genuinely expect/pay for them at only a couple of months old?

I'm thinking maybe advertise around £1,000. Am I being wildly optimistic? 😂

People tend to expect not to pay much for secondhand stuff, even though it's high quality and good condition. I think a lot of people would rather have new, low quality things. Their choice, their loss imo.

Have you still got the receipts and paperwork for the extra protection etc?
Is the fire safety tag still attached? (you can't sell without)

You might get lucky if someone wants to buy that exact configuration.

Or it might be better to split them up?

I think people won't pay much for second hand sofas, especially if they're nothing special.
Does your husband still like them?

My sofa was £1000 NEW from DFS and it's the colour and style I chose. Why would anyone pay that for a used sofa? Crazy to spend £3k on a sofa then change your minds. Do you have money to burn?

Almost all of the £3000 you paid was the value of having a new sofa in the exact combination of colour and fabric and style you choose. A sofa loses 90% of its value the moment it is delivered to your home. No second owner is going to receive that choice. You may get a few hundred but no one will give you £1000.

But they’re on for a lot less then £3k now, so it doesn’t matter what you paid it’s what people can now buy them new for. £1k is too much for second hand £2k value sofas. I’d pay £300 unless I was about to buy that exact style and colour new.

I wouldn't pay £1k for secondhand DFS sofas. A few hundred, maybe.

Why are you getting rid of them so soon? Are they uncomfortable?

DFS always has a sale on but doesn't include all ranges. So wind yer neck in.

They're just too big for the room. I did measure and knew they would fit however I've had to change the configuration of the room and I just don't like it 😢

Not really. We once had to get rid of a really good sofa. Our builders had to break it down to get it into the skip and they were saying how beautifully made it was. But our cat caught fleas and they moved into the sofa and nothing we did would kill them so we had to chuck it.

I'd never risk a second hand sofa - it could have fleas, bedbugs, pet dander.

Whoever buys has to arrange collection as well.

That bundle is currently 2300 ish new. So, no, I’d not pay that at all, especially as the person buying them does not get the advantages or warranty or any other things that protect the purchaser and which are factored in the price when you buy new… moreover after year of buying from DFS and every product looking like poop within 3years of normal family use, it is not a brand that I would willingly buy from new (with all those newly applied fabric protections and manufacturers warranties) let alone second hand.

You can try £1000 or best offer and see what happens, though.

He's fine with them. Moans that he can't get comfortable but he's done that with all the sofas we've had 🙄😂

No money to burn unfortunately. I just wanted to see if I could get any money back for the these ones.

I don't rate DFS, but does it come with the same guarantees as Sofology offer? I'd rather buy on finance and get Sofology's cover on the frame/damage etc.

Oh, if it's only worth £2300 new, i'd pay £300 tops.
