AIBU to think that Christmas ads should be banned until at least after Halloween?

Yesterday, on the first of September, I saw a billboard ad for mince pies and have been bombarded with online ads for advent calendars of various descriptions. WTAF? We haven’t even got past the autumn equinox, the clocks haven’t changed, what is wrong with people?? When I am world dictator all mentions of Christmas would be banned until 1st December (actual advent), but until then would it be too much to ask to ask retailers to show some restraint at least until the Halloween tat is out of the way?

I quite agree. I'm not a massive Christmas fan anyway, and I think this is due to it all starting ridiculously early. By the time Christmas actually arrives I'm fed up of it and relieved to see it go! Would love the build up to start no earlier than mid November to make it more exciting.

I agree. Bloody Christmas is one day and yet we have months of build-up. I've gone from being someone (as a child) who loved Christmas to absolutely hating it now. If it was kept to just December it would be bearable, but as soon as the schools go back the shops are full of bloody chocolate and mince pies. Argh!

I've been getting Cardiff Christmas market adverts via email since the end of May.

Made me quite sad tbh.

FFS yes! Totally agree! I was in Tesco last weekend and they had Christmas sweets in their seasonal section. It’s August FFS. The sun was shining! Time moves fast enough as it is without retail trying to push us through it even faster.

I was in Morrisons a couple of weeks ago and thought i'll just check gardening aisle for any more reductions (got some cheap plant pots previously) oh no full of celebrations and quality street. I love Christmas but this is ridiculous.

I'd go further and ban all Xmas paraphernalia until after remembrance day on 11th November. It feels a bit wrong to have all the jolly stuff about on what should be a solemn time.

Hell yes. A bloated over done consumerist festival. I used to love Christmas years ago when it just came upon you. Now it’s shoved down our throats from late August so I am sick of it.

It really is obscene. 1 December would be plenty early enough for me, but I think after Halloween is fairly reasonable. I find I'm beyond sick of hearing about it by December. It's honestly the most over hyped thing in the world

While we're at it, I don't mind Halloween at all but I don't want to hear about it in September

People have been complaining about this for over 40 years and it has started around the time the children go back to school for all that time.

Totally agree but I guess stores have to constantly find a way to flog shit. Now paddling pools, fans and BBQs are a thing of the past it’s time for … mince pies?

Have been getting Christmas lunch menus since mid August (and this year's organisers will probably go to the same place as last year and the year before....). It's really to bookmark the best date for the "works" night out.

It's just so very tedious and predictable. Some love it and enjoy being able to stock up bit by bit, others, like many of us on this thread are just sick of it.

But nothing will stop it, because there are a lot more Christmas preppers and spenders than there are people like us.

All for one stupid day. And it is stupid, since Christmas goodies, which were once exciting and special are there all year round now apart from real Christmas trees.

Bring on the mince pies, the tacky lights, the Dove box sets and a badly organised bank holiday rail service.

I love Christmas, but, why do people want to wish their lives away like this? I’m still in shorts and t-shirt, the summer flowers are still out, tomatoes are still growing in the garden.

I think it would feel more special if all the advertising waiting until December. I don’t watch tv with adverts, I don’t really see many adverts online, but you can’t help it when shopping (even online shopping). I can definitely see why people get sick of it and don’t enjoy Christmas as much.
