Having to resist the temptation to throw my phone across the room every time I see Joe Wicks fucking grinning at me on SM pushing his new ‘menopause fitness plan’ with a fucking big grin on his face while he tells women to ‘just tell yourself you can do it!’ when he has no idea what it feels like having even a single period let alone the fucking menopause!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬

anyone else??!!

What's wrong with just having a few days, weeks, months... years feeling a bit of?
We are humans, not robots.

Let's all jump on his feed and tell him to piss off.

I love him and his 20 minute dumbbell work out. I've certainly noticed a difference after 4 weeks. I find see the problem.

What difference has dumb bells made to your menopause? Not being obnoxious genuinely curious as you haven't elaborated.

It could be a research-led "who are menopausal women likely to trust?" thing - for example, I get lots of viagra ads pushed my way on social media - every single one includes a woman looking suggestively at the camera, or with her hair messed up like she's just had exciting sex with her 'pill-assisted' partner.
I was bemused - so I looked into it. Apparently men who are in the market for viagra (and probably the same age group as menopausal women) are more likely to trust a woman talking about it than a man. 🤷
So maybe menopausal women trust Joe Wicks.
More likely though that he's just a grifter.

It is probably just joe wicks and his marketing team rather than research led, he needs to sell something relevant, he is the Jamie Oliver of the fitness world.

Never liked this smug cunt and he's well out of his lane here, no doubt many women will lap it up though.

Exercise is helping with some of my menopause symptoms BUT I don’t use Joe Wicks. Is he just being the face of a specialised plan with a team of professionals behind him or is he telling women to pull their socks up and get rid of that meno belly in four weeks (insert cheesy grin and well timed hair flip)?

We did his PE with Joe workouts during lockdown and reminded me how much I love HIT workouts so I’ve just continued to do them.

I really like him, don’t get the smug feeling like a lot of posters on this thread.
I’ve always found him relatable and not patronising.

Maybe there is a element of overkill as he does seem to have his fingers in a lot of pies.

It is this, he can't be an expert at everything. And certainly not menopausal exercise.

Medical professionals advise doing more weights anything, which is a more female-tailored approach.

Medical professionals recommend weight bearing exercise, which is important for everyone since it’s proven to help manage weight, blood lipids, diabetes, protect cardiovascular health and reduce falls and severity of injuries as well as mental health.

Women in menopause don’t need a special exercise regime, but if you’ve seen scientific evidence they do I’m always keen to learn.

Deadringer · 03/09/2026 13:18

Not just him, every time I go on social media I see ads for gyms/classes with some dancing, prancing, grinning 25 year old prat inviting 'ladies' over 40/50/60 to come and get fit and have fun! Fuck off!!

I completely understand why women would be irate about mensplaining menopause but Joe Wicks has a degree in Sports Sciences and is properly qualified, so isn't just some random grifter. I really enjoy his exercises and do ten minutes HIIT or Abs every morning and feel better for it (I am mid-50s). I like his accessibility, cheery mode and encouraging tone and that there is no annoying music. He occasionally gets a stitch or cramp and I find this human and relatable.

That doesn't automatically mean that he's well educated in the nuances of specific issues like menopause, in the same way that a GP is highly educated, but has to refer to specialist practitioners (including issues like asthma or diabetes care nurses within the practice, not just up the chain to consultant teams)

I don't think lived experience is automatically essential to being better at serving a specific need; sometimes it puts blinkers on about the variety of that experience, sometimes it helps with empathetic understanding. It's targeted, well applied professional development that matters. Joe Wicks does have form for jumping on bandwagons though especially with parenting and being good at getting accessible general fitness and lifestyle onto social media has been a good thing, but it doesn't mean he's an expert in all nuanced areas of fitness (e.g. injury susceptibility through hormonal change, and a frequently inexperienced target market).

Overall he's done a lot of good in the fitness sector, he's just not the biggest expert out there.

Say what you want about him but this 'grifter' has helped get me motivated and in shape. You can either moan or complain or spend that energy starting a programme that sees results. I couldn't give a toss who presents an idea around a subject. If it works, it works.

Are you on commission?!

If Joe Wicks gets you moving, that’s great. We just don’t need to pretend that there’s special movements women need to do at different ages or have special exercise series for it.
