2 Bottles of Salt! Why?

Ordered a little grocery delivery via an app. I wasn't feeling well and needed a few bits. Opened the bag to find completely the wrong order. There clearly was a mix up where I got someone else's shop, and they got mine. So I was able to get a full refund thankfully, and was told to keep the wrong shop.

Went through the free shop, there were pretty typical items, not what I wanted, but can use:

• 4l of semi skimmed milk
• loaf of seeded bread (nice bread)
• 2 packs of sliced chicken
• 3 packets of fridge raiders
• 3 packets of mini chocolate oranges
• 2 large packs of anchor spreadable butter?
• 2 large bottles of salt????

I'm sure whoever got my shop is equally disappointed about the wraps, mayonnaise, egg custard tarts and 2 cartons of cranberry juice I ordered.

I consider the delivery shops to be a sort of emergency top up interim type shop. What kind of emergency requires 2 packs of butter and 2 bottles of salt? 1 pack of butter, sure, 1 bottle of salt, ok? But 2? It's the salt that really puzzles me. Why so much salt? What do you get in an emergency mini shop?

Anyway I'm going to try fridge raiders for the first time in years, I seem to recall they are as dry as old socks.

Butter for doing lots of baking and maybe the salt if they are killing off weeds in the garden or driveway (you mix salt with washing-up liquid and vinegar, I think).

Baking a whole fish in salt?

I just bought a large pack of salt in a small shop just before going on holiday. I’d read that if you put salt in the bottom of the wheelie bin it stops flies breeding.

The salt might be arts and crafts related, or they put an eye-watering amount in to boil vegetables in (I'm thinking of my grandmother at this point!).

As for the two packs of butter, you'd be stunned to learn that I get 4-5 blocks of the stuff. I'm very into cooking from scratch, and get through a lot of it.

I thought salt dough or slugs. Or maybe expecting snow who knows?!

If there were new potatoes in the order as well they might have been doing papas arrugadas.

Baking, salt crusting food, slugs, salt water rinses for having teeth removed, all sorts of things

They could have been on offer.

If you cook from a scratch a lot then you can go through a lot of salt.

I always buy two bottles if I’m at Sainsbury’s because it’s not near me but the salt is cheaper than Tesco’s.

I used a whole bottle of salt just last night on an army of slugs that marched into my kitchen. I need to.order more.

I don’t understand why you don’t grasp that not everyone views a grocery shop delivery as an ‘emergency’ top up. Our fruit, vegetables and eggs come from the farmers market, so a grocery delivery would all be other stuff.

There's a minimum spend so the extra salt and butter may have been for someone else 🤷‍♂️

I don't understand the references to a bottle of salt. I've never bought salt in a bottle in my long life. What am I missing?

Oh no! I do hope not or whoever got my shop shall have to get creative and throw a packet of crisps at the evil spirts until they get their hands on more salt. 😂

Yes I don’t get this either. It’s more likely to be the other way round I would think! We do our main shop via delivery and then if we run out of stuff or need odd bits during the week we go into a shop to buy them.

Both those shops seem weirdly small to me, I wouldn’t order a tiny grocery shop online (surely the delivery charge would be a big percentage of the overall cost unless you have a delivery pass, but why would you for emergency shops only?). Most people I know use delivery for their main shop.

I think it's food for packed lunches and salt for crafts, pest control or Defense Against The Dark Arts.

I buy loads of salt in the winter for de-icing purposes. Maybe they are planning ahead.
