Friends promised a BBQ and delivered an Iceland beige buffet!

As above really, myself, DH and 3 DC went to our friends’ house yesterday on the promise of some drinks in the garden and a BBQ.

They said they were having issues with their BBQ so would do an ‘indoor BBQ’. This consisted of beige food from Iceland!!

AIBU to find this a woeful alternative?

But they weren't Charlie Bigham meals, they were ready meals from the local farm shop, so much posher, obvs!

I actually had some CB salmon en croutes recently, I enjoyed them, all that lush puff pastry and creamy sauce 😋

I still don't get what you mean, sorry. I agree she's being a snob about Iceland, but my question was that you seem to be saying a buffet isn't/can't be frozen food.

To be honest though this time of year Iceland don't sell a lot of frozen buffet food. They tend to have a bigger range for the Christmas season.
It would more likely be fresh buffet food this time of year.

I think the company is more important than the food. My bil did sardines last time we were there, I can’t be doing with fiddly bones, I’d rather beige Iceland food!

On Saturday, we did chicken breast kebabs, char grilled veg, good quality sausages, hallloumi, slow cooked ribs. We had strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, barbecued pineapple and Cornish clotted cream ice cream then a cheese platter.

Fair enough, I actually have never eaten the food.
I presumed it to be ultra processed food.
I wouldn't touch McDonald's either, but my children do.

They sell food exactly the same as in any other supermarket.
They sell fresh and frozen.
Why would you assume it's all ultra processed food?

Does anyone think the OP would have noticed had the BBQ gone ahead, that the meat was indeed frozen, from Iceland?

YABU for being so bothered by this that you had to post about it. It's a night out with friends. It's one night of disappointing food.

I think she meant similar to Charlie Bigham meals:

Still ready meals, just from the Farm shop - probably like Booths ready meal, which are also lush 😋

Nothing wrong with ready meals.

We have ready meals in the freezer. DH makes them from scratch.

That’s not a ready meal then. A ready meal is a meal bought from a shop. Yours are just meals, frozen.

I think @mybeautifulemeraldparure was making the point that for all her food snobbery, the OP also resorts to ready meals, as lots of others do.

Funny enough I dont know why but I was thinking about the milky coffee my mum used to make me in the 70s, it was hot milk in the pan (no microwaves) with mellow birds and sugar. Nice. Good for children I believe..

They're probably so busy doing their Very Very Important Jobz they CBA to get off their hamster wheel and make sure their guests had good quality scran. Preposterous! Couldn't they have ordered from Waitrose on their 6 figure salaries?

If someone is kind and generous enough to entertain you and provide food then to moan seems incredibly rude and ungrateful. They clearly had the original intention to do a ‘proper’ BBQ and I doubt they were deliberately trying to piss you off. To make this amount of fuss over it seems ridiculous.
