To find pavement chalking by neighbour unreasonable?

We are in a row of houses which have a footpath running in front of the road with a grassed area either side. One of the neighbours has two kids, who for the past week have been drawing on the pavement using chalk. It looks an utter mess. Would it be wrong of me to say something to the parents?

Totally unreasonable. It's chalk. When it rains next it'll wash away 🙄

Yep. If chalked pavements are a good way of preventing prissy joyless miseryguts from moving in nearby then I might start doing it myself.

They can do that in their back gardens if they have one, and be more inventive. The children who lived along by me, and mine, played some wonderful games and had real adventured in their gardens.

Yes o agree. Definitely complain to their parents and ensure they are given a gaming device/ipad immediately to occupy themselves instead 🙄

And also remember to report it to the school when they go back, they are the ones to sort out all the problems, according to MN, they have nothing else to do.

I do know what you mean OP. As a kid I loved a game we played where we would draw arrows to show were we were hiding but do some decoy arrows to knock people off anyway I digress.. but I knew not to scrawl messy drawings all over the street as it looks awful. Kids near me have done it and its there ages due to the dry weather. I would pick your battles on this but I fear you have neighbours / kids with no boundaries so if its anything like where I live prepare for the football and kids not giving a sh*! what they break or damage.

Of course it is no crime to be a kid, nobody said it was. Being a child is a time to have fun with few or no responsibilities. Mine looks back and says childhood was the best time.

I don't think children playing out in the street is very pleasant. The pavements are for walking. I do understand there are problems if people live in flats without a play area or a nearby park but for those with their own back gardens, the children can play there. That's what I and my friends always did and when I became a parent, mine did - had a great time too in good weather.

And then it's the teachers fault when the little darlings can't read or write 😂

The whole side of my actual house has been chalked on by kids in my street. I love it. (They asked first).

I recommend you go out and wash it off. Gives them a blank canvas to start again and have some fun.

Just wait until night time and wash it away with a bucket of water.

Sorry to be harsh but stop being so miserable. They are just innocent children having fun. Chalk is temporary and will be washed away as soon as rain comes. Honestly, it seems like some people just won’t let kids be kids nowadays 🙄

Children shouldn't be cooped up inside on their Xboxes.
Children shouldn't be allowed to play outside for fear of making a noise and disturbing their neighbours.
For those who say the children should play in their own back gardens you always get another neighbour moaning on here that they're unable to enjoy their own gardens due to the noise of their neighbours children.
What's a child supposed to do? Sit there in silence?
Most gardens are not big enough for things such as hop scotch/ball games/riding their bikes. There used to be loads of us playing outside in the close. Loads of space but close enough for parents to keep an eye on us. Too many cars for that now.
Last Xmas Day we noticed the absence of children proudly riding their new bikes they'd had off Father Xmas. Now they're all cooped up indoors on their gadgets. I suppose they must Facetime their friends and play games together online instead.

We have Polish, Indian, Romanian, African and British people living in the close and everyone is very kind. I'm disabled and both of my Polish and Romanian neighbours bring me food and pop to the shop for me when Im too ill to go myself. Recently the little Polish girls have started playing with the Indian children, they are very polite and well behaved. A few weeks ago they did loads of colourful chalk drawings on the pavement /road in the close and wrote things like 'welcome' and drew hearts and flowers. Then everyone got a message from the management company telling us that someone had complained about the children playing outside and the chalk drawings. Everyone is fuming and we are trying to find out who the person is that complained because nobody wants to live around someone like that. We suspect someone but so far we can't prove it, but rest assured when we do they will be told in no uncertain terms to f ck off and leave the children alone. We suspect that it could be because the children aren't British and white. So IMHO you are being unreasonable. I would call you something else that starts with a C but I'll probably get banned from the forum. Children grow up fast and they won't be drawing on the floor for long. Besides that the rain will wash it away eventually anyway.

No, it isn't. Complaining about temporary chalk drawings is antisocial behavior, that isn't normal. This is a childhood activity, that harms no one, gets kids outside playing, and actually cheers up neighborhoods!

Why?! They’ll be finished with it and it will be blank for next time!!! My kids used to chalk in the garden all of the time. I’d wash it away at night time.
