To find pavement chalking by neighbour unreasonable?

Hanji83 · Yesterday 20:29

We are in a row of houses which have a footpath running in front of the road with a grassed area either side. One of the neighbours has two kids, who for the past week have been drawing on the pavement using chalk. It looks an utter mess. Would it be wrong of me to say something to the parents?

I found a pack of chalks in my garden shed when I moved into my house. In the summer I drew on my own garden path (I thought it was pretty artistic). My neighbour looked at my artwork and said 'oh, did you have your grandchildren round?'

Somewhat chastened I said yes. I did not, then, have any grandchildren. Lesson learned. Only draw in chalk if you are either under the age of twelve, or have the ability of Leonardo da Vinci.

You know it’ll wash off in the rain?! Stop being such a misery!

anewlifeinthesun · Today 15:33

I walked through a fairly new housing development the other day and children had been chalking a “road” on the pavements complete with roundabouts and traffic lights and I thought how lovely it was to see this.

Children just having innocent harmless fun.

What a miserable old boot you sound

gamerchick · Today 15:47

Haha good one OP. Bravo Grin

I'm sure we get at least one of these threads every year. It's chalk, it washes away.

Kerri126 · Today 16:01

This has to be a wind up? Just in case it’s not… these kids are doing exactly what kids should be doing during the summer holiday - outside playing, having fun, getting fresh air and a bit of exercise, using their imaginations and not using screens. Chalk easily washes away - please don’t be a killjoy.

ohtowinthelottery · Today 16:04

Well it's raining here today OP so if it's the same where you are, I assume the chalk has now washed off!
Only 2 more weeks of the school holidays left - and breathe!

Ablushingcrow · Today 16:08

I love chalky pavements, hopscotch, skipping ropes etc. It means kids are being kids, having fun, exercising and fresh air. It's how kids thrive.

Likeiloveyou · Today 16:12

The absolute 💩 I read on here! 🤣

It’ll go when it rains. 🤷‍♀️

Get over yourself hyacinth and stop being such a busy body

ShortRun · Today 16:43

I found the link for this thread on FB, and as I was waiting for it to load I was hoping you had the sense to delete it as on e you'd had some time to think you'd realise ..... But alas....

AgnesMcDoo · Today 16:43

Find your perspective cause you’ve lost it

NotSmallButFunSize · Today 16:46

Honestly, if you turned up at my door and said that to me, I would tell you to bugger off!

Get a life ffs!

blueysmum88 · Today 16:50

It’s raining, it’ll be gone soon. Lighten up.

Witchergeralt · Today 16:50

The kids are outdoors playing doing nobody any harm and when it rains the chalk will be washed away. People have been drawing on pavements with chalk since 16th century Italy so yes, you are being unreasonable. Hopscotch is a rite of passage for all kids of any age.

Mycatisreal · Today 16:55

The type of kids where I live chalked FUCK YOU on the side of my house. I just washed it off. Nothing you can do. Saying something wouldn’t have changed anything. Choose your battles or it can lead to an escalation.

ClearFruit · Today 16:55

Do you have kids, OP?

Grandmistress991 · Today 16:59

Rondayvu · Today 14:42

Unless they are drawing the outline of your body in chalk then leave them to it.

🤣🤣🤣

XMissPlacedX · Today 17:16

Don’t worry a bit of rain and it will all wash right away

ChocolateCinderToffee · Today 17:17

I wasn’t allowed to do this as a child and i still resent that. For heaven’s sake. It’s completely harmless fun.

IdaGlossop · Today 17:28

I am a bit shocked. It's the summer holiday. The weather is mostly good. Children are playing outside. They are getting lots of fresh air. They are being creative. They are having fun. They are moving their bodies They are not pestering their parents. They are not on screens. They are not beating hell out of one another. They are not mugging grannies. Rejoice!

If rejoicing is out of the question, blinkers will help. These are quite fetching, and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use:

Unless they've drawn a massive cock and balls, I'd probably just leave it tbh..

Actually, you have inadvertently provided a solution. If OP drew a massive cock and balls herself, she would have a real reason to be outraged and to ask for the mess to be cleared away.

Littlechinagirl · Today 13:21

I just need this to be known i clicked you aren't being unreasonable BY ACCIDENT

Good grief. 1st world problems

Did you never play hopscotch?

No. OP never played at all. Therein lies the problem.
