Why can't I just find some pants?!?!

Knickerbockermisery · Today 10:21

After a long, painstaking and expensive search I have finally found some knickers I was happy with. The right type of fabric for my preference, the right style and they fit! don't squish me in on the waist band, don't have my little belly fat sticking out at the bottom. Don't give me a wedgy. And only £22 for a pack of four (Victoria's Secret from Next).

Alas, my joy was short lived. After one day, I am back to the never ending drawing board of finding pants I can wear. All the above reasons stand, they're perfect on paper - BUT - feminine items will not stick to them! Not even a bit. It's so weird. I like to wear a daily pad, just to feel hygienic through the day in case of small leaks (thanks kids), but they will not stick to my new pants at all. OK, I thought, I'll just hold the pad in place in while I pull them up and then they'll just stay there. WRONG. Not only did they not stay there, the otherwise super comfy pants somehow turned the back half of my pad into some sort of bum floss which I was then constantly trying to unwedge. And when I went to the toilet and lowered them, the pad was nowhere to be seen. Oh wait, there it is dropped out onto the floor (thankfully not in the toilet bowl!).

There's absolutely no way I'm chancing that with with a sanitary towel when I get my period.

(btw, I did think maybe after a wash they'd stick better. Made no difference)

So that's another £22 down the toilet (pun intended) and I have to consider the perfect pants just don't exist.

Is it just me that finds buying basic every day pants so bloody hard!

It's a strange material a lot of suppliers are using. Also a lot of tights/leggings are shiny. I've given up and gone over to Asda cotton knickers.

Knickerbockermisery · Today 10:29

It's actually the shiny kind of ones I like. I find cotton underwear horribly irritating and kind of itchy.

Weirdly I did not thin these new ones were the shiny type, certainly not as much as others. I don't think I've encountered this issue before.

I can't help but agree about holy grail pants.

I like a full brief to go over my section scar.
Can I get them in nice, feminine designs at a reasonable price point. Rarely.
Giant plain cotton affairs or 'jazzy' floral ditsy print in pastels.

I feel your pain OP.

Asda or Sainsbury’s. Only ones I’ll buy now. They are Bridget Jones knickers but I don’t give a stuff and I have told DH if he wants me to wear attractive sexy knickers he has to too.

comfort is all now.

Shodan · Today 10:36

Are they made of modal fabric? I find those sort like to creep up into my bum crack.

I spent a lot of money and many years trying to find the exact right knickers for me and eventually found my perfect ones in Sainsbury's, of all places. But only the plain sort- the minute they add a tiny scrap of lace on the legs, they start creeping up again.

M&S high rise shorts with the lace bit at the top. Comfy and look good.

£12 for 5.

Seriously, the most comfortable knickers I have ever worn are these Mei Yating knickers from Temu of all places. They have a cotton gusset. Different colours and pack sizes available.

Try oddballs they are very comfortable.

I actually follow a woman online who looks at how poorly clothes are made one of the things she points out is gusset width apparently most companies make them far to small now.

I found Oddballs ladies boxers great with jeans, but they somehow still manage to bunch up /roll up when I'm wearing a dress (with chub run shorts) or looser trousers. The briefs weren't much better.
I'm currently swearing by Boody bamboo knickers, though haven't yet had to try them with a pad as I don't get regular periods.

These are really nice and soft fabric. I recommend these knickers

Yep, this style from M&S are my go-to. Anything else just rides up, falls down or whatever!

Knickerbockermisery · Today 11:06

Might have a look at some of those suggested. I detest the feeling of any kind of additional fabric, like the lace detailing at the top. I've tried many and I just can't stand it.

Maybe just the shape of my body but the shorts style don't work for me unless I'm wearing tight clothing. I bought some from M&S, but if I'm wearing loose trousers or a dress they just end up dropping down. A smaller size would be too tight.

I prefer bikini style but most of them do come with some edging detail which is a no no.

It's a bit infuriating that you have to buy a whole pack, which you of course can not try on. The amount of opened packs of pants I have that will never get worn is ridiculous. I did find a charity that would take obviously unworn underwear.

The VS ones I bought from Next were a bit of a risk, because you couldn't open the packet before buying as the security sticker was over the opening and the sizes were simply labelled S, M, L, with no actual sizing guide on the pack so I was so happy when I took a punt and thought I'd won.
