Partner's AI generated woman - silly fun or ick weird?

Biscuitlady1 · Yesterday 23:58

I've had already had some issues with my partner so this is probably extra icing on the cake. We've been dating 18 months.

Today, I was on Facebook and my partner appeared as one of my suggestions. I clicked on his profile. There were a handful of photos. One in January this year was him with a beautiful woman; the other in Feb with the same beautiful woman. I was taken aback because in one of the photos he looked younger than he does now, so I assumed it was a photo of an ex. A few people had 'liked' the photos.

Now, in Jan and Feb this year, we were on a break because of his various mood issues and I had a lot of stuff going on so we weren't officially dating at the time he posted those images.

This afternoon, I sent him a text asking why he had posted the photos this year of him with the woman. It wasn't an angry text, I wanted to know why he was suddenly posting photos of himself with his ex. He replied to say it was an AI generated image from an app where people submit a photo of themselves and then AI generates a partner that would suit them. He said he was bored and just being silly.

I believe that. I find it weird a man in his fifties would do that and then share it on Facebook. Should I laugh it off? Am I overthinking it?

Men just aren't as bright as they want us to believe they are.

Has he been in a marriage that broke up - and what did he say the reason was?

@jqbq no he hasn't been married. He was in a 17 year relationship which he ended because they grew apart.

The real question is why are you even still with this guy? He is horrible. you already had one break up very early.
Is his wang made of gold?

EmailsaysOOO · Today 05:22

Very weird that he couldn't have known how hurtful it would be for you. Has he always been emotionally dense? A normal guy would know that it was likely to be upsetting. Does sound weird..sorry OP

FreddysFingers · Today 05:23

He's posted those on Facebook to try to fool people into thinking he was with some hottie 🤣🤣🤣. What an absolute tool 😆

UpDownAllAround1 · Today 05:30

So you have never been FB friends? Sounds like he may have been acting like a 12 yo one night

aliasfrog · Today 05:42

18 months already with issues, and you've already split up and reunited?
Using women as props on his Facebook to make himself look better?
Use of ai for something completely shallow and pointless. Ai that uses energy and water at huge amounts and is generally terrible for the planet.
He sounds useless. Ltb. It shouldn't be this hard.

I mean it’s cringe and ick but how’s it disrespectful to the op, they weren’t even dating at the time.

Zuve · Today 06:36

Why are men so yukky. He should be in love and devoted to you. Not playing with toys like this

ReplacementBusDriver · Today 06:37

It's not the first thing I would hope for in a life partner. There are worse things out there but it just wouldn't really make me feel enthusiastic about this person, or optimistic that the human race isn't doomed given this is what people use our highest technological powers to achieve.

Agree with this.

Is anyone else from Friends hearing Ross? “We were on a break” 😁

AzureLurker · Today 06:45

I love the "partner that would suit them" , nearly spat my coffee out when you said he's in in his 50's.

There was a thread, not so long ago, from a woman who'd found her husband spent his time making AI videos of him being 'romantic' with porn-star type women. He'd put the OP's head on some of the women. If I remember rightly, their sex life had done down the drain and the husband was neglecting himself.

I would, until recently, have said I'm all for a bit of a fantasy life. Its hard to put into words, but I feel tech-assisted fantasy moves things out of the imagination so it takes up space in real life. Our brains 'believe' what they see on screen, especially video and even more when it's interactive. That's why they train soldiers, pilots and athletes on video.

I think your guy's blurred the boundaries between fantasy and reality, OP. It will get worse. You're already semi-detached, by the sound of it. I'd go full detachment right away.

FieryA · Today 06:46

You were on a break, so he can do what he wants I suppose. Though posting a pic with a fake woman is really weird. He is obviously trying to fool people into thinking that's his real partner. I mean its one thing to do it fun for privately but quite cringey and immature to post it, without even acknowledging it in the caption. He seems quite shallow. How is he in other aspects of your relationship?
