Don't know what topic you'd put this under but picture this scenario - one bathroom in the house, husband is in the shower, you're suddenly desperate for the toilet - what do you do?

If I was very very very desperate but id probably tell him I was desperate and he get out of the shower and leave me a a moment

Didimum · 16/08/2026 18:55

A quick wee if you really need to go is fine, in my opinion. It’s easy just to turn your back.

IronEverything · 16/08/2026 18:57

We don't care about this in our relationship and wouldn't feel the need for the person in the shower to turn their back or get out. But everyone is different.

Jerseymilkshake · 16/08/2026 18:59

I couldn't deal with this at all 🙈
If I was desperate I'd tell them and ask they get out the shower.
I know some couples are much more comfortable about that sort of thing but I just couldn't do it.

SALaw · 16/08/2026 18:59

I wouldn’t go from not needing to desperate so quickly that I wouldn’t have either gone before he showers or be able to wait until he’s finished. Been together 20 years and no need to ever use the toilet in front of each other. I grew up in a house with 1 bathroom and no one ever had this issue.

QueenStevie · 16/08/2026 19:03

I think it depends if it's a number one or number two. A quick wee, I could probably cope with although it wouldn't be ideal but anyone doing a stinky poo in front of their partner - just no! To be fair, if he is just in the showers he is only 5 mins anyway so I suppose the only occasion when I couldn't wait was if I suddenly was taken very unwell in which case I would yell, "Get out! It's an emergency!" Otherwise, I would just wait a few minutes.

Now DD and her epic baths on the other hand...this is the reason I would never have a one loo house ever again! They can go on for hours.

Cla7 · 16/08/2026 19:06

I went to a pub next door a couple of times when I got desperate. My husband takes ages in the bathroom but always locks the door.

Branleuse · 16/08/2026 19:07

À wee would be OK, but not a poo

Marroon · 16/08/2026 19:07

I think under exceptional circumstances you should avoid it. It would annoy me if my DH was constantly pissing while I was trying to have a bath or shower.

DedododoDedadada · 16/08/2026 19:07

If you have a condition that means you need to go urgently then maybe it would be reasonable, otherwise unreasonable unless he has been in there for ages already but it is pretty grim.

BillieWiper · 16/08/2026 19:07

Not for number 2. The smell and noise is antisocial. Possibly for wee if he doesn't object and you can't hold it.

But generally I don't think it's right to assume you can use the bathroom while someone else is. But if that's what you've done throughout your relationship and are comfortable then that's cool. But many wouldn't want another person present.

TheatreTraveller · 16/08/2026 19:09

Me and DH always wee in front of each other! Lol. He wouldn't bat an eye at having a number 2 but I definitely wouldn't!

ToKittyornottoKitty · 16/08/2026 19:10

Unless your husband takes 30+ mins in the shower just wait

Nor do we , we have three toilets and it still wouldn’t bother me if he came in whilst I’m in the bath / shower or vice versa . Presumably this is a person you are intimate with .

MsIceSandwich · 16/08/2026 19:13

I'd wait, I don't want to do anything toilet related in front of anyone and I wouldn't want them to do it in front of me.

NovemberMorn · 16/08/2026 19:13

In a one-bathroom/toilet house, needs must.

I would be more concerned if husband needed the loo whilst I was in the bath or shower.

Double standards...Yes, I admit it.😏

BeeHive909 · 16/08/2026 19:19

I’ve done it and I’d do it again. I’ve got bowel disease and when I need to go I need to go . So id be going to the toleit whether my partners in there or not. Luckily he’s understanding.

5128gap · 16/08/2026 19:19

Even in a one bathroom household there's never a 'need' to use the toilet with someone in the shower, as I'm sure most would agree if it was their dad or adult son in there rather than their DH.
Whether a couple 'want' to do it is entirely up to the two of them. If they're both OK with it, its reasonable. If one of them isn't, its not.

60degreecycle · 16/08/2026 19:22

Pee in front of each other, no bother, so I'd knock and head in if I couldn't wait, ie I'd just come home and was bursting.

Poo, absolutely no way, never, not happening either way round.

Since when does being intimate with someone strip you of any autonomy or privacy the rest of the time?

Teenagerantruns · 16/08/2026 19:26

Quick wee absolutely would not care, we do wee in fount of each other, anything else definitely not , unless l suppose onset of sickness bug when you definitely have to go.

It doesn’t but it’s a quick wee , you’ve seen everything why would it worry you

Bitzee · 16/08/2026 19:28

No not really ok unless you’re a toddler with no indication you needed it previously and no ability for hold it for 10 minutes. If you only have the one bathroom and he says he’s going for a shower do you not think to pop in first if you need it, and if you didn’t need it at all then surely it cannot be so urgent you can’t hold it until he’s done… If it is then I think you need to make a GP appointment as it’s not normal and could indicate a medical issue. Not because there’s anything gross about having a wee (poo is another matter) but really because it’s a poor reflection on quiet time and boundaries.

Amberlynnswashcloth · 16/08/2026 19:31

I once had a cat who always seemed to need the litter box just as I settled into a nice relaxing bubble bath and I'd have to get out to deal with the smell. It would remind me of that so, no.

petermaddog · 16/08/2026 19:36

just dont flush
