Camping dilemma since fire alert

Off camping next week but been told no cooking stoves allowed now - so no hot water, no hot food.
There’s no pub or shops nearby either.

The site is saying we are inside 14 day cancellation so they are charging to move the dates back and we’ll lose full amount if we go elsewhere (although not even sure where else since the phone alert).

Camping with kids, with no hot food or drink - would you do it?

Does anyone know a site where we could cook still?

Does it have a hook up? If so you could take your kettle, and if you have one an air fryer.

Can you not just eat sandwich type food?

You won’t be able to use open flame to cook anywhere since the alert went off.

No o wouldn't but would if you had a hook up. I didn't think cooking stoves was included in the new temporary rules, i thought it was fires and disposable bbq?

Yes I would still go I think.take flasks from home for 1 st day .then cold drinks.also get teas out in the week.cereal for breakfast. And maybe supper out or cold snacks .seems a shame to miss out

It's not about inconveniencing you and banning you from preparing hot food; it's about preventing the whole site going up in flames, including your tent and anyone in it. It's just not sensible to use a naked flame outside at the moment.

As to whether you go or not, it depends how long you are staying for, how important hot food and drink is to you, and whether a hook-up is an option / how far you would have to drive to access what you need otherwise.

How long are you there for? And do you have access to a car?

A weekend I would make work if we had transport, with cold food and drinks at the tent, and going out in the car for maybe one pub meal/morning coffee in a cafe a day

Whole week? I'd probably take the hit and try and move the days. Wouldn't be able to afford to eat out every day and I like a coffee first thing every morning!

Surely if they’ve changed the terms then even if outside the cancellation policy they should offer a refund.

This is where the government need to step in to help camping businesses and the client.

What’s the electric situation like? A cheap induction top and some pans.

I think in this case they should allow you to change your date without penalty. Personally a week is a long time without a cuppa or hot food if you don’t want to drive far or eat out every day. For a weekend I’d make it work but not sure I would for a week.

I see a business opportunity for anyone living near the site. Providing boiling water and possibly loan of a cooker.

Realistically I would start with a couple of flasks of hot water to make drinks.

Plan cold meals, tinned tuna with salad, cheese and biscuits that sort of thing.

Then get a couple of self heating meals, yes I know they are expensive but they heat without a flame.

You can also get self heating cookers, OK to warm up tinned or packet food, not for a home cooked meal.

Do they specify "no cooking stoves" or is it only ones with a flame?

I'd go to a café (or even a petrol station) for a coffee in the morning and ask them to fill the flask(s), offer to pay for it.

I agree with others for a weekend I think I could make it work, but I couldn’t do longer, I can’t afford to eat out daily & wouldn’t want a week of cold food & no coffee in morning.

Im camping bank holiday weekend & hoping to use my gas stove (off ground, supervised, with fire blanket) as the site has no electric.

What about a travel kettle?
How old are the kids. Ive never camped in a tent but we did have a touring caravan years ago and what I loved the most was the campsite atmosphere. I could cope without looking just would need a coffee first thing

Presumably it's in their interests to keep guests happy and reduce the risks of people cooking sneakily anyway?

I dont think ive ever known anyone go camping and cook 3 meals a day.

Id have cereal etc for breakfast (take 1 pint cartons of uht milk and open one each day), be out and about for lunch & buy warm food then, and have sandwiches for tea.

I can imagine a lot of campsites might get a tea urn set up somewhere for hot water.

Has the site got electric hookup or an indoor kitchen area?
If so, and there’s a socket, I’d take the kettle from home to make a cuppa.
You could also use some boiled water to make cous cous and noodles. I’d have those with ready cooked meats.

Order food delivery from local places to site....pizza, chinese etc. Maybe camp site could arrange food trucks?

Cereal for breakfast, sandwich for lunch. Go out for dinner or grab a takeaway.

Amazon have cigarette lighter kettles if you are taking the car. Then you’d have tea and could do cous cous smash pot noodles rehydrate pasta packs.

…or find out if there are plug sockets in the wash block eg for hair dryers and take your own normal kettle.
