AIBU to feel hurt by DH’s comment after sex postpartum?

We’re both in our late 30s and have three children. Our youngest was born in March, so life has been pretty chaotic. Between the baby and the other children, we honestly haven’t had much time just the two of us.

Last night, the two older children were at DH’s parents, so we had some time alone and were in the mood. We had sex for the first time since having our youngest. It was actually really lovely to have some time together as a couple.

Afterwards, DH casually said, “you’re not as tight as you used to be.”

He didn’t say it in an explicitly nasty way, I don’t even think he really realises what he said and the conversation moved on afterwards, but I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it.

I know bodies change after having children. I’ve had three children, including a baby just a few months ago and I’m not expecting my body to be exactly the same as it was years ago. I think what upset me was more the fact that it was said at all, especially in what felt like quite a vulnerable moment.

I am thinking of speaking to him about it this evening. The thing is, I don’t think he meant to be cruel. He is a good husband and a very involved dad I don’t ever feel as though I am doing parenting on my own, he often says being a father has been one of the best things to happen to him. He’s such a dad, always on dad mode. He’s actually currently out with the children because the weather is nice he picked them up and took them out and I’m going to meet them at a cafe for lunch soon.

I think that’s partly why I’m unsure how to approach it. I don’t want to make it into something bigger than it was or accuse him of trying to hurt me, but I do want him to understand that the comment has stayed with me.

What a horrible comment. He needs to understand why you were upset and if it were me then more sex would be off the menu for the foreseeable future

Rumpledandcrumpled · 02/08/2026 10:26

Yikes that’s a bit insensitive, I mean you can and should of course tell him it’s hurtful, but if you don’t think he meant to hurt you and it was simply a factual comment, then I think I’d simply tell him it was insensitive and what was the point in saying it.

howver I have to caution, you will soon have the hysterical mob out with the pitch forks telling you to ltb and criticise his penis.

Oops one got there before I commented. Yeah punish him and weaponise sex. Thays alway a plan.

MinnieCoops · 02/08/2026 10:29

Oh that’s really harsh I would talk to him and say he’s upset you. If he’s usually good he might just need telling that’s not an okay comment.

ScarlettSarah · 02/08/2026 10:29

Jeez, does he have no common sense? Imagine saying that to your postpartum wife and then expecting her to feel confident about having sex again!!

SillyPeachAnt · 02/08/2026 10:31

I’m not going to weaponise sex. If that’s the advice people are going to give me that’s not how I want my marriage to be. We’ve been married 9 years I’d like to stay married and be able to solve conflict and issues without weaponising sex or punishing him.

We had sex this morning he didn’t make that comment again I don’t think he wanted to upset me last night but it has I keep thinking about it. I wanted to mention it this morning but he had to rush to get the kids and I can’t mention it at lunch in a busy cafe with our children there. Maybe this evening.

Yea id have been that person and said "funny, I was just thinking your cock must have shrunk a bit" <tinkly laugh>

MNLurker1345 · 02/08/2026 10:34

@SillyPeachAnt, do speak to him, he is a good DF and DH, he should understand.

Do you think he said it because he was considering the technical side of childbirth and he had some ignorant expectation that anatomically you would change physically.

Totally lacking in sensitivity. Talk to him. Good luck!

CalmTheFuckDownMargaret · 02/08/2026 10:39

It’s just a strange thing to say out loud. Of course you aren’t as tight - you’ve only just had a third baby. It’s something that everyone knows but you don’t point it out. I mean, what are you meant to do with that information? I’d talk to him as it sounds like he thought in the intimacy of the moment it was something that felt comfortable and honest to share, but it was actually tactless and upsetting. He’ll probably be mortified and apologetic but he does need to know that observations like that need to stay in his head.

This is my kinda comment! 🤣 I too would have turned round and said funny that I think you'll find your cock had shrunk!
OP your husband is an insensitive cockwomble!

Culpeper · 02/08/2026 10:42

It was a thoughtless comment that he didn’t need to make.

I’d say this to him, and then move on.

3peassuit · 02/08/2026 10:43

He needs to know how that comment made you feel and that it’s not okay. If he’s normally a good partner he’ll take it on board, realise how insensitive it was and never say anything like it again.

SillyPeachAnt · 02/08/2026 10:46

It’s just made me feel quite shit about myself and my body. Is that what he’s thinking when we are intimate ? I had a baby his baby I had a tear when giving birth and thats what he decides to mention when he can just keep it to himself

This.

Promisingtree · 02/08/2026 10:47

You had sex with him after the comment?
Well if nothing else you know that your vagina is not putting him off!

Tink3rbell30 · 02/08/2026 10:50

You had sex with him again after making such a horrible insensitive comment about your body?! The bar is on tbe floor.

ThisBoldFinch · 02/08/2026 10:51

That wasn’t great.

Keep in mind that men often speak without considering how it’s going to be interpreted or emotionally received, they just speak without a filter - especially to eachother and sometimes forget that’s needed in times of heightened sensitivity

This. It's not about weaponising sex, I don't think I'd have been able to do it again with him again/ so soon after that comment tbh.

Megifer · 02/08/2026 10:31

Yea id have been that person and said "funny, I was just thinking your cock must have shrunk a bit" <tinkly laugh>

Yup. I was also thinking that, funnily enough, I’m much tighter when I’m turned on.

Deadleaves77 · 02/08/2026 10:54

He didn't mean to hurt you? What did he think would be the outcome of the comment? If you told him dick was more shrivelled would he like it?

You need to talk to him. Commenting on the tightness of a woman's vagina is not okay, especially after shes given birth to your 3 children, and tbh if you havent had sex for months its probably in his head anyway, has he been wanking a lot? Tell him how it made you feel, and if he's actually a decent bloke he will feel horrified (although I would argue anyone decent doesn't need to be told that comments upsetting)

ScarlettSarah · 02/08/2026 10:29

This really. If it was genuinely an unthinking comment and he’s generally fine then I wouldn’t be running screaming to LTB, I’d defo be raising it though - does he have no fkn clue how that was going to make you feel? jeez. I would seriously struggle to have sex again with him after that, it would always be on my mind. Ugh.

chocoluv · 02/08/2026 10:55

How did that even come up in conversation??

I don’t think I’ve ever had sex with a man who hasn’t complimented me on how tight I am, how beautiful I am, how amazing I am in the bedroom etc - it’s probably all lies but it’s just what you do when you have sex - make your partner feel good.

I would be very annoyed and I’m not a sensitive person.

I would speak to him about it, just to make sure he never says it again.

DaisyMayBojangles · 02/08/2026 10:57

I woukd say ‘your penis feels a lot smaller than it used to’

OtterlyAstounding · 02/08/2026 10:59

Wow. Frankly, that would make me want to tell him I'd better leave him then, and find a man with a bigger cock that fits my looser vagina better, as clearly his is no longer up to the task. Perhaps reversing the situation might make him realise what an absolute fuckwit he was.
It would also make me not want to have sex with him for the foreseeable future, because every time I did, I'd be thinking about that fact that he thinks my vagina feels worse than it used to for him, and I wouldn't be able to enjoy it. The shitty thing is, now that he's said it he can't ever take it back – even if he apologises, you know that's what he thinks.

Seriously, I cannot think that a man would be stupid enough to say that, and not be deliberately trying to neg the woman he's with, and ruin her self-esteem. I'm gobsmacked.

BauhausOfEliott · 02/08/2026 11:00

It’s astonishing to me that any man could say that and not realise how hurtful it would be.
