The fridge ate the Jaffa Cake.

I opened a packet of Jaffa Cakes last night and DH, DS and I enjoyed a little sweet snack in front of the TV. There was one left so I put it in the fridge.

This morning DH and DS left early to travel to some sport. I opened the fridge door, saw the Jaffa Cake (I’d forgotten all about it so a nice surprise) and thought I would enjoy it mid morning. I am alone in the house.

Now that I want the Jaffa Cake I have opened the fridge door and the Jaffa Cake HAS GONE.

I am still alone in the house. I definitely didn’t eat it. I checked the bin for the wrapper in case I’d eaten it in a narcoleptic fit. No wrapper. No Jaffa Cake. I am an organised person so the fridge is neatly packed and not a chaotic mess.

Where the bloody hell is it? The fridge ate it. That’s my only explanation.

You imagined the whole thing. No one puts a singular jaffa cake back in the fridge. You actually ate them all last night and because you'd enjoyed them you imagined there was one left this morning.

I think you're haunted by the spirit of the inventor of the Jaffa Cake, having offended them for putting your Jaffa Cake in the fridge!

LightningTree · 01/08/2026 10:11

You ate so many Jaffa cakes last night that you are experiencing a sugar rush hallucination.

Cuppachuchu · 01/08/2026 10:13

This was a very silly thing to do OP.
Why o why did you not HIDE the remaining one lonely little jaffa cake in a secret hidey place?
Then it would still be there, waiting to be enjoyed with your morning coffee whilst everyone is out.
Amateur. Only yourself to blame. Think on next time. 🤷

THIS !
Why in all things orangey did you put the poor thing in the fridge !

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 01/08/2026 10:15

It has fallen down between the bars of the fridge shelf and is having it away with the parsnips in the bottom of the fridge.

In a couple of weeks you will open the fridge door and be surprised by a litter of Parsnip-Flavoured Jaffa Cakes.

Elieza · 01/08/2026 10:17

fridges are particularly partial to one-offs. you should be aware of this phenomenon.

one yoghurt,
one can of cola,
one (in this case) jaffa cake.

it’s all fair game. you should have hidden it elsewhere to avoid the fridge demon. 😂

dudsville · 01/08/2026 10:19

You committed the crime of leaving a sole jaffa cake alone in the fridge. That poor thing. Thankfully, it's brothers and sisters have spirited it away to a place of loving safety where it can be properly valured. Now you have to suffer the consequences by witnessing ghosts of jaffa past by "seeing" it in the fridge. 'Twas never there.

Wheredfhasitgone · 01/08/2026 10:21

Well, I am clearly in the wrong for not eating it last night and succumbing to the sin of all sins: delayed gratification.

I didn’t open the fridge door until the lads had gone out. It was definitely there.

Love this! Made me laugh 😂

You're a wrong'un and no mistake.

Who leaves a wounded jaffa cake alone in a fridge? You should have humanely dispatched it last night.

A balanced diet is a jaffa cake in each hand in my world.

You need to buy another packet of Jaffa cakes and leave them next to the fridge , they will call out to their lost soul and get him to join their pack ( herd , flock , swarm , shoal or whatever Jaffa cakes move around in )

AchingLambs · 01/08/2026 10:29

You obviously scoffed it down in a gluttonous frenzy this morning and are blocking out the memory out of shame.
Get to the doctors first thing on Monday morning for some trauma counselling before it destroys your life. Don’t you care about your kids at all?

I believe it is a lovelyness of Jaffa cakes

Wheredfhasitgone · 01/08/2026 10:48

OK. Drama over. I remembered that I had taken some bread out of the freezer so I opened the freezer door. And there they were! And I say “they” because they had indeed multiplied overnight and there were two Jaffa Cakes. I say “were” as I have just enjoyed them and apologised to the fridge.

You have a nisse. It feels disrespected and it has stolen your Jaffa Cake in a bid to cause chaos.

It's the only sound, logical and scientific explanation.

omghereistrouble · 01/08/2026 11:02

Cat? Dog? Child? Are there any fish in your fridge who may have been peckish?

Bit of an anticlimax OP, I was looking forward to updates about the litter of parsnip flavoured Jaffa cakes

Sounds like a Jamie Oliver Christmas recipe Grin

I like the appology to the fridge.
I tend to thank traffic lights. From my driving instructor's reaction apparently this is not a standard approach to street furniture.

Agreed! No one, EVER, puts a single Jaffa Cake back in the fridge. In the unlikely event of one being left in the box, then the person clearing up has to eat it in order to put the box straight into the recycling. I thought everyone knew this?

scorchedgreenery · 01/08/2026 13:13

You have a dog you don’t know about. You opened the fridge, saw the Jaffa cake, and as you closed the fridge it fell out and the dog ate it.
