The fridge ate the Jaffa Cake.

I opened a packet of Jaffa Cakes last night and DH, DS and I enjoyed a little sweet snack in front of the TV. There was one left so I put it in the fridge.

This morning DH and DS left early to travel to some sport. I opened the fridge door, saw the Jaffa Cake (I’d forgotten all about it so a nice surprise) and thought I would enjoy it mid morning. I am alone in the house.

Now that I want the Jaffa Cake I have opened the fridge door and the Jaffa Cake HAS GONE.

I am still alone in the house. I definitely didn’t eat it. I checked the bin for the wrapper in case I’d eaten it in a narcoleptic fit. No wrapper. No Jaffa Cake. I am an organised person so the fridge is neatly packed and not a chaotic mess.

Where the bloody hell is it? The fridge ate it. That’s my only explanation.

Me neither! But didn't they then escape to the freezer? If I followed the plot correctly....
OP, weren't they rock hard?

Not really. At least, I didn’t break my teeth on them.

At one point Tesco we're doing a jaffa cake cheesecake. An entire plate of jaffa-ey goodness. It said "serves 4" (yeah who were they kidding?!) on the box. DH and I couldn't wait for one to defrost and ate it straight from the freezer.

Like a sort of ice cream?

Funnily enough, a Jaffa cake is a mighty fine pudding dipped in an Irish coffee.

Oh this sounds lovely, I'm going to try it.

MrsMoastyToasty · 01/08/2026 19:07

@Wheredfhasitgone yes , but only because we didn't allow it to defrost.

AllotmentOtter · 01/08/2026 19:32

My mind is truly boggled by the fact you had one packet of Jaffa Cakes between three people and had two Jaffa Cakes left over!

In our house it's a packet each and you eat them all in one go. If, on the very rare off chance, there are any left over they absolutely, never go in the fridge. That is Jaffa Cake sacrilege.

You imagined the whole thing. No one puts a singular jaffa cake back in the fridge. You actually ate them all last night and because you'd enjoyed them you imagined there was one left this morning.

This. No one leaves just one left!

Circe32 · 01/08/2026 20:46

Apologies if it's been mentioned already, but you can get Costa Jaffa Frappucino from Sainsburys - they are amazing!

Lilypad789 · 02/08/2026 09:06

1 pack of Jaffa cakes is a treat for 3 of you on a Saturday night, with leftovers? Oh my god I’m such a fatty. That’s like a Tuesday mid-morning snack for one, barely even a treat.

Sharmelbreak · 02/08/2026 09:11

I was waiting for the anti-fridge brigade to turn up, but there are fewer than I expected. Nevertheless, it’s worth repeating that any biscuit with chocolate should be in the fridge.

Wheredfhasitgone · 02/08/2026 19:01

Thanks for bumping this thread. I’ve just remembered it was a double pack and the second pack is still in the cupboard!

You have a nisse. It feels disrespected and it has stolen your Jaffa Cake in a bid to cause chaos.

It's the only sound, logical and scientific explanation.

Oh, my husband is half Norwegian so I know all about Nisse!

To those aghast at the JC being put in the fridge, I’ve been doing that recently simply because it’s so hot that chocolate is melting in my kitchen if left in the cupboard.

I’m loving the freezer denouement with bonus JC 😀

Now I know this thread isn’t real. Nobody forgets they have a packet of Jaffa cakes. Nice try OP

BTW, my record is 42 in one go. Can anyone beat that?

Thank you.

A question. I have remembered the second packet of Jaffa cakes. I don’t think anyone else remembered the second packet of Jaffa cakes. I took DS, DD and DDBF out for lunch today and I paid for lunch. Do I serve to eat the Jaffa cakes by myself or should I share them?

I’ve gone in. The rest of the packet is in the freezer. Remind me of this when I’m looking for them in the fridge tomorrow 🙏

But but but it's not a biscuit, it's a CAKE

Only for tax purposes.

Only for tax purposes.

Is it for tax purposes?

I thought the distinction was that when a biscuit goes stale, it goes soft and when a cake goes stale, it goes hard.

Jaffa cakes definitely go hard. I'm left with 12 boxes of hot honey jaffa cakes that I could build a small wall with seen as nobody ate them.

I know it was officially designated as cake for tax purposes but I don't understand why people thought it was not a cake , it's sponge , sponge = cake not biscuit .
Just because it's small and round doesn't make it a biscuit. Otherwise chorley cakes and Eccles cakes would be biscuits and bourbon and Nice wouldn't be.

Olderbutt · 03/08/2026 10:04

I'm totally awestruck that you managed to save it in the first place! Go and get a new box and savour them all!
