Zack Polanski and the guillotine

Everanewbie · 28/07/2026 16:50

AIBU to be sceptical that much will be done about Zack Polanski's tweet of an image of man wearing a t-shirt depicting a guillotine and the words "making plans for Nigel"?

Now I am not in favour of prosecuting people for words, and I don't want ZP sent to prison. But I would like to see this level of hate stop.

And I am finding the left to be extremely hypocritical with the violent rhetoric while simultaneously celebrating the arrest of Lucy Connelly and Graham Linehan?

I think the posting the t shirt is a distraction. The reason he was tagged was because he was at the event. It was a Green Party event. People in the Green party saw nothing wrong with it. A Green Party photographer took a photo, posted it on Instagram and presumably thought ' what a great tshirt'. Polanski was at the event and thought nothing of it. Green party activists were there and thought nothing of it. He and they are upset that other people have noticed it and have pointed out that it was in extremely bad taste.

Yes, I completely agree.

Also, they're happy for a politician to be cruelly killed because they said some hurtful words.
But if someone suggests a death penalty for criminals who tortured and killed multiple others, they have arms up in the air for how inhumane it is.
Make it make sense.

Bloody good point that!

Ereshkigalangcleg · Yesterday 10:58

Just like when Green Party councillors were at a “trans rights” protest where an effigy of Andy Burnham was stabbed in the eyes as discussed upthread.

Disgraceful. These people are dangerous. It only takes one of their cohort to take it to the next level and they do.

Dilligafy · Yesterday 11:00

ZP has proven himself to be an utter liability and a gift to the other parties.

If he carries on like this, he will soon be spending some time at HMP.

Ereshkigalangcleg · Yesterday 11:00

And obviously we have “Heather Herbert” and his polycule and their violent threats and his vile comments about Ann Widdecombe’s death.

I am against the death penalty, but exactly^^! This doesn't make sense. The disconnect is bonkers.

Similarly when someone just saying something they disagree with is "literal violence" <serious faces, grrr>, but then when there is actual violence it's all a bit of a laugh isn't it? They do not see how skewed their views are.

Obligatory NOT ALL PEOPLE ON THE LEFT ARE LIKE THIS klaxon

LuckyHazelFox · Yesterday 11:03

Talking of the death penalty - ironic that the guillotine was an example of such - I don't agree that you need to be far right to agree with its use. Right, definitely but far right is so bandied about these days.

Ereshkigalangcleg · Yesterday 11:07

And not to forget that Zack/Dave thought it was an absolute travesty for a terrorist to be jailed for an attack with a sledgehammer on a policewoman just doing her job. It’s all documented on the series of FWR Green Party threads, together with the details of how the GP both in England/Wales and Scotland has purged women and a few men who believe women are female from the party, harassed them and discriminated against them.

I suppose death penalty is fine as long as it's used on white 'right wing' people aka people who disagree with something they demand.
As long as asylum seekers raping children aren't the ones subject to it, it's fine.

Yet the said friend who I no longer talk to was telling me that greens are THE ONLY party that cares about women.

Mistakenly and unwittingly shared, immediately removed, apologised, made it clear that he was in no way endorsing the message on the t shirt and in fact absolutely disagreed with it.

There is criticism there about how to manage social media, but to suggest this is some kind of deliberate hate act is laughable.

He has refused to apologise.
I saw him refuse on TV because he ... according to him... hadnt done anything wrong.🙄
Absolutely vile man.

Indeed. And shortly after Ann Widdecombe was beaten to death with a hammer, this is on the instagram page of the "trans rights" (actually violent misogynists) organisation "bash back"

Is this acceptable? And if anyone thinks so, why?

The greens are as misogynistic as reform.

This is spot on.

Polanski DARVOing all over Newsnight last night.
Apparently, by drawing attention to it, Farage has put him in danger.

Yup. Don't they usually call that victim blaming?

Absolutely DARVO, it's a classic bully tactic.

ForRedPoet · Yesterday 11:29

LuckyHazelFox · Yesterday 10:13

Yep, no excuses on that one, no benefit of the doubt. This reminds me of Starmer's excuses for miscommunication over Mandelson. Once again, Polanski has fooled the gullible. He's doing a great job on that score.

Completely agree.

noormano · Yesterday 11:30

Don't you know that ALL bullies are by their definition victims - when their bullying is found out. If they can't get away with coercing, forcing or taunting, they are automatically and naturally The Victim.

EvagoraY · Yesterday 11:33

The t shirt , it’s existence, proves that these are not genuinely compassionate or virtuous people.

heather herbert is another vivid proof that these are not virtuous or compassionate people.

these are people to be very frightened of.

It was an Instagram post of 20 images that he was tagged in. He should have looked through them all but he didn’t ‘tweet’ anything

Edited

It wasn’t just a ‘tag’ though was it?

It was a collaborative post, which then will appear on his own page in exactly the same way something he posted himself would - that’s the point of them.

Ridiculously stupid, particularly since Anne Widdicombes murder mere weeks ago.

Ereshkigalangcleg · Yesterday 11:35

It’s interesting how few people on the left on MN actually like Polanski. They will say how they aren’t that keen on him but swiftly deflect with whataboutery about other parties.

That sounds like you have a pretty unpleasant friend@Complicatedthings Please don't tar other left-leaning people with the same brush. Personaly I was horrified when he was shot, even if I despised his political stance.

Completely agree!
