Zack Polanski and the guillotine

Everanewbie · 28/07/2026 16:50

AIBU to be sceptical that much will be done about Zack Polanski's tweet of an image of man wearing a t-shirt depicting a guillotine and the words "making plans for Nigel"?

Now I am not in favour of prosecuting people for words, and I don't want ZP sent to prison. But I would like to see this level of hate stop.

And I am finding the left to be extremely hypocritical with the violent rhetoric while simultaneously celebrating the arrest of Lucy Connelly and Graham Linehan?

You lecture people on the use of the word fascism, but are quite happy to use it yourself. Hypocrisy should always be called out I think. 😉

It's good not to take yourself too seriously, at times. I'm quite frankly sick of the word.

My very left leaning friend found it funny when Charlie Kirk got shot in front of his family.

Rules don't apply to them.

The far left are particularly vile. They have a lot in common with Islamic Fundamentalists actually; a propensity for violence, bigotry and intolerance towards those who hold different views to their own. Maybe that's why there are so many at the Pro Palestine rallies.. kindred spirits

I think there’s a fundamental misunderstanding of what fascism means. This might help:

Fascism is a strict political system led by a powerful dictator, extreme pride in one's country, and total control over the people. In a fascist government, the needs of the country come before individual rights or freedom

Maybe we should stop bandying it about.

Are we saying this is not what Islamist fundamentalism is? Are we saying that Zack Polanski saying people who don't agree with him should be excluded from society or that people can wander around advocating killing opposition politicians or waving placards calling for people who disagree with them to be decapitated and not one person thinks anything of it isn't fascistic in nature? The only difference is that they don't have :extreme pride in their country but they do have extreme dedication to an ideology or belief that is more important than anyone's rights to individual freedom.

You’re friend is not “the left” 🙄

I'd also question why the person is a friend. As to laugh about a murder speaks of character not political persuasion.

^Yup, 💯.

The man’s an absolute tool. The gift that keeps on giving….every time he opens his mouth he’s having to apologise or backtrack. If I was a Green supporter I’d be demanding his resignation. He peaked just before the local elections as he attached himself to the coat tails of the Pro Palestinian supporters. He saw the opportunity to increase his voting base and ran with it. But now his party is losing support, because he’s coming across as a bit dim and controversial, and the policies associated with the Greens are getting lost because of all his shit. He was okay before he started opening his mouth, and the saying ‘best to stay silent and people assume you’re stupid, than speak and remove all doubt’ absolutely applies to this man.

ThatCyanCat · 01/08/2026 09:54

If I was a Green supporter I’d be demanding his resignation.

If you were a current Green supporter, you'd want him there as a puppet leader to sanitise the antisemitism and perversion (he is not a pervert for being gay, of course, but perverts often ride on LGB coattails for respectability).

Hardly old, just a couple of days ago. No digging needed. But I can see why you don't like it.😉

We know why he's there and he's happily gone along with it. A very dangerous operator.

I do agree. There is nothing more off-putting. It is absolutely foul behaviour and speaks to something very wrong with the person who says it. It is shocking that people think it is ok and plaster these comments over social media for all to see. I am so glad that Heather Herbert was investigated for those comments. Very deserved no matter who says such things and no matter what their political views.

ETA: I know one such person too and have stepped back from him even though he is a close relative.

That’s the key tenet of fascism so neither Islamist fundamentalism - which is international - nor the Greens’ ideology fit the definition.

Oh. As you seem unable to click on the images in order to see both posts I will help you out. In response to my post saying the end of Reform would be a positve for everyone IMHO, including the Tories you said: "Get rid of a legitimate political party. Sounds like fascism. Surely not."

Oh, you mean that reference to irony? The AS facility is such a useful one for reminding posters of past posts isn't it? I might start using mine. Then again..

As an aside, I couldn't help but notice that Zack Polanski said in his interview a few days ago that the guillotine image was the fifth image in a series of 20, whereas subsequently the Met Police said in their statement that it was the eighteenth image of 20.

I don't use Instagram myself but Google tells me that a recent feature allows Instagram posters to reorder images on their carousel after posting. Therefore, if the offending image was reordered, was that after Polanski shared the images (so he shared the image in eighteenth place - but why then did the Instagrammer bump the image up to fifth place and not first or second place, and why did the Met Police not mention that Polanski shared the images before they were reordered) - alternatively was the offending image quickly shuffled down the carousel before the Met Police got a chance to look at it and they haven't realised/don't care enough to check?

Agree it isn't fascism.

But I did hear the Mitchell and Webb "are...are we the bad guys?" sketch in my head when speaking to one of my leftist relatives. They have no idea that some of them really have become the bad guys

Yep.

I couldn't sleep last night so took a look at JKR's twitter page. Her latest fight is against Amnesty who defamed her rape crisis centre. They've had to backtrack and issue an apology. What has it come to when victims of rape are accused of being anti rights because they want their places of safety to be women centred?

Edited

Amnesty International have behaved absolutely appallingly on this. They lost their way a long time ago.

Cairngormwildfire · 01/08/2026 13:04

The bloke who wrote the comment about AW is a heinous and sick individual. But the last thing he is is a fascist. All his type care about are their minority individual freedoms, which is the antithesis of fascism.

His type aren’t about minority individual freedoms at all. They want everyone to go along with their demands and give up their own rights. Indeed, the idea that women have rights at all is an anathema to them.

I agree. If only they knew how hard it is to be a biological woman. That envy would soon slither away.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/08/2026 15:47

The extent of the Greens’ batshittery and misogyny over the last few years is documented in informative series of threads in FWR
