Zack Polanski and the guillotine

AIBU to be sceptical that much will be done about Zack Polanski's tweet of an image of man wearing a t-shirt depicting a guillotine and the words "making plans for Nigel"?

Now I am not in favour of prosecuting people for words, and I don't want ZP sent to prison. But I would like to see this level of hate stop.

And I am finding the left to be extremely hypocritical with the violent rhetoric while simultaneously celebrating the arrest of Lucy Connelly and Graham Linehan?

Morrissey was interviewed by the police about his song Margaret on the Guillotine. So whoever posted the original image may well be interviewed.

BuffaloCauliflower · 28/07/2026 16:55

He didn’t tweet anything. He was tagged in an Instagram post of 20 images, accepted the tag without properly looking all through, the image was in that. As soon as alerted he took it down and apologised. At least vaguely check the facts before getting annoyed.

Complicatedthings · 28/07/2026 16:55

My very left leaning friend found it funny when Charlie Kirk got shot in front of his family.

Rules don't apply to them.

SilenceInside · 28/07/2026 16:56

@Everanewbie do you think he actively chose that image and promoted it deliberately knowing the content?

Pootles34 · 28/07/2026 16:57

@BuffaloCauliflower I really don't think a leader of a party should be so stupid as to not check their social media with a fine tooth comb.

It's really unacceptable - I hate him as much as the next person, but I would like to see him fail miserably and fade into obscurity. This sort of behaviour does the left no favours - we need to take the high road.

Atschjvkbgj · 28/07/2026 16:57

It was an Instagram post of 20 images that he was tagged in. He should have looked through them all but he didn’t ‘tweet’ anything

BIWI · 28/07/2026 16:57

That sounds like you have a pretty unpleasant friend@Complicatedthings Please don't tar other left-leaning people with the same brush. Personaly I was horrified when he was shot, even if I despised his political stance.

This exactly but headlines (including on bbc news so not just daily mail etc) are misleading to suggest he just tweeted a pic of the image. I'm far from a fan of his but don't think this is being reported correctly.

I do want him sent to prison because I want the law applied consistently. To say ‘I support freedom of speech so ZP shouldn’t go to prison and neither should LC have done’ is missing the point. LC was sent to prison so so should ZP. The law should be changed but until it is it must apply equally.

People in power are more likely to change the law when they are also held to account under it.

Maybe you need to look at what actually happened

anniegun · 28/07/2026 17:00

Massive double standards from Reform who are championing people who have promoted burning hotels full of refugees, and melting down Nigerians to fill potholes. Now the free speech warriors are getting triggered by a t-shirt .

You have not understood what happened have you?

Desperatelyseekinglazysusan · 28/07/2026 17:01

Why are they so stupid? Do they think no one would notice or don't they care? Polanski should not just be accepting any old rubbish on n his Instagram.

Switcher · 28/07/2026 17:03

For some reason the far left appear to think that dehumanising their political opponents is absolutely fine and won't result in terrible violence by their more unhinged supporters. It is what always happens, the "rightness" of the belief does not make it right.

This sort of person helps us understand a lot about history.

When we read about the Terror, the Holocaust, Stalin’s holomodor in Ukraine, the Rwandan genocide etc etc and ask “How could these things happen?” - the answer is: because of people like this - they are always amongst us.

(BIWI - I know you’re not one of them!)

anniegun · 28/07/2026 17:01

Yes, he shared a violent image calling for the death of an MP on his instagram shortly after a violent attack on a supporter of that party by a left-wing ideologue.

TheWonderhorse · 28/07/2026 17:07

Tbh I only saw it because Farage and Jenrick shared it. Should they be arrested too?

SilenceInside · 28/07/2026 17:07

Mistakenly and unwittingly shared, immediately removed, apologised, made it clear that he was in no way endorsing the message on the t shirt and in fact absolutely disagreed with it.

There is criticism there about how to manage social media, but to suggest this is some kind of deliberate hate act is laughable.

Atschjvkbgj · 28/07/2026 17:07

Maybe it was one of his ‘team’ ?

noormano · 28/07/2026 17:11

😬they are as bad as each other. But then we knew this already, Reform and Green 2 sides of a coin. Same mentality different politics.

Everanewbie · 28/07/2026 17:14

In the aftermath of the murder of Ann Widecombe this comment looks really bad. But “should be shot” is a fairly routine British colloquialism. It isn’t used as a call for the death penalty. a picture of a guillotine and text explaining that the apparatus is being set up for a named person is very very different.
