Kids chasing pigeons and ducks

Yet another day of seeing children chasing ducks with the parents doing fuck all to stop them. This was even worse in that the parents were both filming the two kids on their phones and obviously finding it funny and cute. Since when is terrifying animals funny? I see it regularly with pigeons and ducks and I'm so sick of it.

Aibu to think it's animal cruelty?

Why didn't you say this to the parents?

Weekendnaughtiness · 26/07/2026 17:18

I never had an issue with pigeon chasing

but duck chasing is not on

I don't mind seagull chasing but ducks and pigeons should be left alone.

Ducks are very nervous and easily spooked

pidgeons? Really couldn’t give a toss

Yeah I'm sure the pigeons absolutely love having kids chase them around 🙄

Not something i gave a hoot about . They would fly right back and try to get that bit of bread without so much as a ruffled feather! 😆

meanwhile ducks… frantic, nervous, agitated

Horrible attitude. I made friends with a seagull on holiday. It tapped on the window every day - had obviously been fed before. I fed it, morning and evening, and a couple of days later it brought me a present - a little stone! Seagulls are people too!

Depends whether you're likely to get to your face smashed in, doesn't it? I've told off a boy ( nicely) who was throwing stones at a baby seagull on the beach. He did stop when I told him it was a baby. I would've thought twice if his (raucous) family had been closer though.

You know nothing about what I did. I did speak to the idiotic parents.

Thanks. Have you not noticed the pigeons watching you? They are agents working for the government, reporting on us. I still like them though.

Animals chase pigeons

Flamingojune · 26/07/2026 19:20

Cars and bicycles scatter pigeons. Whats the difference

hugasaurus · 26/07/2026 19:21

I hate seeing this. I judge hard when I see parents just standing there allowing it. Just shitty parenting creating nasty kids really.

Jerrybalanitis · 26/07/2026 19:22

I hate this too amd also agree with the person who pointed out parents who allow it are more likely to kick your head in. Reading through the responses so far, I can't believe how unpleasant some of the responses are, who do people jump into all new posts with completely random hatred? This is a perfectly common bugbear for people, it's not unusual. And not something worth lying about and wasting energy posting a lie about. Sad and mad people.

OchreSnake · 26/07/2026 19:22

Pigeons are vermin. I've never seen them 'terrified' whilst being chased; they go back to the exact spot they were chased from. Again and again.

wafflesmgee · 26/07/2026 19:22

Doesn’t bother me when it’s pigeons, I hate them and think they’re gross pooing everywhere. I’d tell a child to stop if it was bothering other humans eg making the birds fly at ppl eating in an outside restaurant

duck chasing i find so so, if it’s a little chase I wouldn’t mind, if it’s charging at them repeatedly whilst waving a stick for half n hour I’d tell the child to stop. Normally a child does it once or twice then moves on though, which I think is fair enough and not cruel.

in general I think children should come before animals though, it really annoys me when people put animals before children. This no doubt affects my response to your question!
