It’s a house buying one (with listings)

Posting in AIBU for traffic.

DH and I are going to view two houses on the same road but are already at odds on which we each prefer.

Please can you give your views on each - ignoring the price, as this isn’t an issue for the right house. It’s us + DS with no plans for any more kids. We both WFH, but on different days.

House 1

Note with house 2, the second sitting room is on a sort of middle/split level, it’s not on the same floor as the bedrooms. We would likely use that as a main living room, and look to eventually knock through the kitchen into the lounge (thoughts welcome on that plan too!)

Definitely prefer house 2. Neither are my preferred era of house, but house 1, whilst decoratively more to my taste, all the rooms are so long and narrow. It's really impractical and awkward looking.

2 has a much better layout and the rooms are better proportioned. I could easily put my own decorative stamp on it.

If I was to be honest I don't particularly like either but if I was pushed then I would go for 2, 1 just looks 'odd' However, you really cannot get a feel for a place until you can go in and have a proper look / walk around. The weird angled pictures in 1 would really put me off, a favourite thing that estate agents do unfortunately and nobody wants to look at pictures of vases of flowers etc. I always look for plenty of storage in the kitchen and throughout the house so maybe think about that.

Second house.

Always amazes me at prices outside London! Cheaper I mean.

Both are nice enough to consider. I prefer house 1. I would be most swayed by the location. Is it near good schools, etc etc. Does the neighbourhood have enough parks? Do you want to live in that street?

House 1 for me

Did the people saying it would depend on the location not read where is says they're on the same road?

House 2 no question. And cheaper!

I think no 2, though it does look smaller.

It could just be the way the photos have been taken but House 1 looks like it feel like living in a series of corridors.

The feel of a house is important so wait and see until you have been to look at both - please do feed back on whatever the heck photo 11 is showing, it looks like a Harry Potter style bed under the stairs.

I bet the current neighbours of number 1 will be pleased to see that awful caravan/motorhome gone.

2 would be my pick on paper. Much better plot, fewer neighbours.
1’s long thin driveway on a tight cul de sac would be a non-starter.

House 2. Are there shared access/drive issues though?

2 too. The solar panels will be a good feature.
House 1 seems to have a kind of garden room/cabin thing. That could be useful for teenagers!

House 2 is far superior.

I prefer house 1, but it’s very difficult to tell without seeing the houses or knowing the area. I’d be interested to hear how the viewings go.

Definitely No. 2, don’t like the greenery on number 1 could lead to problems also the house has a nicer interior. Hope all our replies don’t cause you problems.

House 2. I like a hallway - i think it makes the house warmer, it gives you a space to get shoes and stuff off and tidied away.

I like the mid level reception room tbh.

Id update the bathroom and get a bath but otherwise think its great and neutral enough for your own design

@Housedebate2 you should have put voting on for this one - you'd have got majority House 2! It's much nicer than 1 and a lot cheaper.

Definitely house 2, house 1 seems really cramped.

House 2 needs a bit of redecorating but I think it's lovely and homely.

House 2 has far more potential and feels like a sociable house. The layout leads it’s self to gain far more room without extending but renovating inside

id spend the £50k difference and take the wall down & alter kitchen, put in another bath/shower room

Immediately house 2. It’s lovely and sweet, has solar panels which means your electric will be super cheap and the rooms are all good sizes, garden spotless and bathroom new.

House 1 has a random massage/murder parlour room.

House 2. The beds barely fit in house 1.

Number 2, I’d be worried about the damage that creeper is doing one number 1.
2 has the nicer garden as well.
