To add teacher on social media?

DD finished school last week and the teacher she had is moving to Australia to live and teach there.
DD has become very fond of the teacher and would like to keep in touch and is sad that she is leaving the school and moving away.

Is it acceptable to add teacher on social media to stay in touch now that the teacher has left the school and moved to the other side of the world?
Or is it still not appropriate?

Safeguarding guidance for teachers says no (at least at schools I’ve worked at)

Explain to your DD that pupils don't keep in touch with teachers because they are professionals.

The teacher can always not accept her as a friend I'd she doesn't feel it's appropriate. I think in this instance as she's left school it is . DS is friends on FB with a few teachers. Wouldn't have been appropriate while a pupil.

I'm sure your daughter is delightful, but the teacher doesn't want to keep in touch with an 11 year old.

Assume she doesn't yet have social media yet then due to safeguarding your DC.

At 11? Definitely not appropriate.

When DP was teaching some of her colleagues accepted ex-students 18+, but that was a few years ago so I'm not even sure how that would be seen now.

You can try add her , but the odds of her accepting are very small.

You want to add a teacher to your social media so your 11yo dd can see what she’s doing in Australia?

What of the teacher is posting videos of herself doing shots in bars with half naked men! An adults content is not suitable for a child, you are overstepping boundaries and it’s not a good lesson to teach your child.

She's teaching at a different school in a different country and your daughter is off to secondary school?

I suppose she can try on social media? Teacher may not go ahead though but I can't see how she can get into trouble the other side of the world.
