Am I missing something? I live in the NW and don't think I could ever go there on holiday. I'm low income so can't afford a lot with a toddler but I don't know why there is an attraction.

Ainu?

I live in the nw and genuinely love walking the front at Blackpool (prom side, NOT the shops side), we start at 1 end, play on the piers as we go, chips at the end then womble back. Would be hideous to go on holiday there though

All depends on what you want & your tastes.
According to one of the girls at my local pub, the north west has some of England best dogging sites ...
And from what I've been told - and stuff she's said to us - she's the type to know first hand ... eek

See, that's just so demeaning to people who like it. My adult daughter who has special needs loves it. She likes the lights, the food is stuff she will certainly, the promenade is very wide so she doesn't feel crowded like in places like Brighton. She likes the merlin attractions and the pleasure beach. She loves the ice dance show and the mini golf, the zoo and Stanley Park. No one looks down on her or makes fun of her.

And I'm happy to take her.

I always say the easier a place is to get to via public transport the worse it is to visit.

If you’ve got to drive and then treck a bit it’s going to be a lovely clean beach without hens and stags and won’t stink of weed. But there also won’t be arcades and fair grounds. If you can get a coach trip or a train right into the centre it’s going to be more wild and typical.

But then there is wild and wowzers wild.
Skeggy and black pool both have hens, stags and weed as does Brighton and other sea sidey places.

Blackpool however you’ve got the homeless, druggies and hookers operating freely and openly. Puking in the streets like its freshers week from the one visit I did have without having children with me. It’s a very deprived sea side town.

@Tableforjoan I did not see any sign of "the homeless, druggies and hookers operating freely and openly. Puking in the streets like its freshers week " over our New Year's break. I think you must have just been extraordinarily unlucky.

Mummadeze · 21/07/2026 21:11

I went there on holiday and stayed in a very nice B&B. The water park and the pleasure beach were both brilliant. We went to the circus which was okay. And we went shopping and to some cheap and cheerful restaurants. It was absolutely fine. V tacky and a bit run down but we still had a great time.

Blackpool is fucking hell hole.

Some people just don't know any different and like the cheaper, tacky, noisy, shouty places. Where people screech, tell their kids to "shut up you stupid little cunts" and blowing smoke in their faces, drunk at 11:30am, starting fights, etc.

At least it keeps the demographic away from much nicer places though.

Edited

But the NW is huge. Sime beautiful countryside. The N W is nit just Blackpool. Anyhow lots of people love Blackpool. Everyone is different.
I might wonder why anyone goes to Benidorm! But it is hugely popular. One mans poison is another man's.......,as the saying goes.

I guess it's matter if perspective and what you're comfortable with..

I hate the place, bleak, depressing, cold, tacky, noisy, deprived, shabby. It has some nice ish places to visit like aquarium or swimming pools or theatre, but you can get those in other nicer places where you don't have to skirt past drunk people, walk past beggars, witness violence, drugs related activities, people shouting and screaming, seeing small bairns being pushed along with baby bottles full of Fanta whilst their father shouts at a 4 year old old to "shut the fuck up ya little shithead", while a hen party squawks along and some lads start a fight, all to the tune of a wailing siren of a few police cars attending some incident.

In fairness, the people are friendly when they're not being dickheads, some of the buildings you can tell were incredible in their hey day. It's just a typical deprived seaside town.

A lot of people have only been as kids and you don't notice terrible stuff, just remember that it's super fun place full of candyfloss, rides, beaches and arcades etc. so they have rose tinted memories I think!

Mydoglovescheese · 22/07/2026 07:43

I love the NW, but one visit to Blackpool was more than enough!

I live close to a very similar seaside resort in the south and I also think why would anybody want to holiday here. Maybe familiarity breeds contempt.

Yarmouth is indeed a tip now.

We went 24 years ago and it was awful then! I dead to think what it’s like now. We escaped the the Broads and Southwold on the way home.

DallazMajor · 22/07/2026 11:04

I saw a seagull eating a shitty nappy on Central drive once.

An image that is burnt into my memory.

YOU ARE WELCOME.

Noodge · 22/07/2026 12:13

I went there to see a show a few months ago.

Yes it is tacky in places, yes it has some questionable criminality and dodgy people.

However! The beach is gorgeous. We didn't encounter anyone who was anything but pleasant, the worst things we saw was people on hen/stag dos who were a bit drunk and loud. I just found it quite funny, didn't bother me at all.

We stayed in a little B&B in the gay quarter. The hosts were fabulous, absolutely could not do enough for us. I can't remember how much it was but it was cheap, and for what we got was more than reasonable. It was never going to be luxurious but we had a lovely bed, more than perfectly pleasant room, tea coffee etc and breakfast was fantastic. I have stayed in lots of very 'naice' places. Just saw this as a different type of break, basic in comparison but fab in its own way.

I think that only a cunt goes onto a forum and slags off a place where other people live, knowing full well that some of them will be on the thread.

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 22/07/2026 16:59

I like going to Blackpool as it reminds me of
my parents and grandparents.

But it's been used as a dumping ground and has been neglected for many years.

Hmm. Bit harsh, if you’ve lived there a long time you’d surely know it is very run down now compared to its hay day, it was never high end, but it certainly didn’t have the boarded up places, the visible drugs, and anti social behaviour it does now, all smeared with a veneer of run down deprivation.

it used to be cheap, cheerful, bustling atmosphere , a popular place to go filled with lots of people, kiss me quick hats and sticks of rock, I’m not sure if makes someone a cunt to say it. It’s hardly a secret.

Where I live is often in the worst or most depressing places to live lists.

It’s a bit of a shite hole so yeah.

Not going to go around calling people names for stating the obvious 🤣

People are allowed to have opinions and thoughts and make observations.

No-one is saying YOU are a bad person.
