I guess it's matter if perspective and what you're comfortable with..
I hate the place, bleak, depressing, cold, tacky, noisy, deprived, shabby. It has some nice ish places to visit like aquarium or swimming pools or theatre, but you can get those in other nicer places where you don't have to skirt past drunk people, walk past beggars, witness violence, drugs related activities, people shouting and screaming, seeing small bairns being pushed along with baby bottles full of Fanta whilst their father shouts at a 4 year old old to "shut the fuck up ya little shithead", while a hen party squawks along and some lads start a fight, all to the tune of a wailing siren of a few police cars attending some incident.
In fairness, the people are friendly when they're not being dickheads, some of the buildings you can tell were incredible in their hey day. It's just a typical deprived seaside town.
A lot of people have only been as kids and you don't notice terrible stuff, just remember that it's super fun place full of candyfloss, rides, beaches and arcades etc. so they have rose tinted memories I think!
