When people go there on holiday I just think why....

Am I missing something? I live in the NW and don't think I could ever go there on holiday. I'm low income so can't afford a lot with a toddler but I don't know why there is an attraction.

Blackpool is fucking hell hole.

Some people just don't know any different and like the cheaper, tacky, noisy, shouty places. Where people screech, tell their kids to "shut up you stupid little cunts" and blowing smoke in their faces, drunk at 11:30am, starting fights, etc.

At least it keeps the demographic away from much nicer places though.

What I know of Blackpool (been once - about 25 years ago for a day trip)...
There's a beach.
Large fairground.
Fancy trams.
Pubs/clubs.
A very large tower.
Ballroom under the tower (I think).
For a classic UK seaside holiday it sounds great.

Well yes, if you are talking about Blackpool I can't see what the appeal is. Tacky and horrible.

But the NW in general is different. The lake District is lovely, although not such a fan myself because it's too busy and they are clearly trying to pry as much money out of people as they can. Parking costs are ridiculously expensive. It's nice outside of the school holidays/peak travel times though. Lots of nice walks to do.

It was nicer in the 1970s - and holidays abroad were a lot less affordable and accessible.

Not my cup of tea but I wouldn't look down on anyone who chose to go there. It's cheap and there's a beach. Kids seem to love it.

I have a friend who used to take her kids to Blackpool every summer as their only holiday. She came into some money three or four years ago and has been on some fabulous holidays abroad, but her kids still prefer Blackpool!

The essential point is it's cheap, you can get a shag and you don't have to deal with any of them foriners who don't speak English.

We went in October half term for the illuminations and the Tower. I was a little worried beforehand but we had absolutely no issues at all, stayed at a Travelodge on the sea front, used the arcades and found the staff pleasant, ate in cafes and didn't go to pubs/clubs. There were some slightly frightening people wandering around clearly with drug/alcohol issues but the trip was otherwise lovely.

My Auntie lived in Bridlington.. She loved her annual holidays in Blackpool - busman's holiday 🤣

Air show is usually a good day. Pleasure Beach is fab too. Other than that, I agree with you.

Yarmouth is indeed a tip now.

I had to go for work once a few years ago. God it’s dire. Every stereotype is true. I couldn’t leave fast enough.

Is it really that hard to understand that people like different things?

This has been done to death on here. There's always haters and always some who still like it and go there. Look up the myriad old threads if you want to know why. The fact that you forgot to even mention the place doesn't put you in a lofty position from the off. No one's making you go the on holiday. Live and let live.

We’ve done a two night pleasure beach break a couple of times on the way to The Lakes from Devon. Room with a view in a nice hotel with theme park entry included, amazing value for money. Get the tram to the tower and eat fish and chips next to the comedy pavement. Take kids to the Sandcastle fun pool and the arcades. It’s fine. Wouldn’t want an adults out drinking type weekend there though.

Cheap and cheerful, if you like that sort of thing.
