When people go there on holiday I just think why....

Am I missing something? I live in the NW and don't think I could ever go there on holiday. I'm low income so can't afford a lot with a toddler but I don't know why there is an attraction.

Just not Blackpool

I’ve been to Blackpool twice in my life, once on a coach trip with my friend and her mum just after her mum got divorced and the second time on a hen do with work, that was enough for me.

I love the north west but not as much as I love the north east and the midlands.

Im a southerner.

We live in the south west and love coming to Norfolk and surrounding area. The kids love Great Yarmouth.
I feel the same about where we live

Went there a few weeks ago and it was a great few days. Winter gardens has goid shows, had a Sunday watching cricket, went up the coast, nice day on the beach. All very affordable.
You have to take it in the spirit it is intended. Not for everyone but you should do it at least once.

Waterpark
Pleasure Beach
Piers to wander around
Trams
Blackpool Tower

Never had any negative experiences.

And in our guest house, which was clean and comfortable at 40 a night, there was a family of 4 with a 6 and 8 year old. They were having a great time. All day filled up doing exciting things with their parents. Who could afford to do things with tgem. Absolutely exhausted by 8pm. Crashed out asleep whilst parents had a quiet drink in the residents bar. Up at 8am to another fun filled day.
At lake Ohrid in June. Children spending hours on a boat going around the lake shore stopping at archaeological sites of 'interest'. Sitting out at lakeside cafes in the evening whilst parents sipped cocktails. Back to nice Hotels. They were on their phones all the time. No parental interaction what so ever.
Those kids in Blackpool had miles more fun than those in Ohrid.

I must go to a different Blackpool, because I've never experienced anything like that. Unfortunately for you, I'm everywhere.
I go because it's one direct train. I know were to book good accommodation (it isn't cheap). The zoo is brilliant. The tower shows good for primary aged children. You can actually win on the machines, they still have 2p machines. The beach is nice. The fair rides, outside the pleasure beach, are inexpensive and good for primary age. Other shows are cheap. Sandcastle pool has always been clean and well ran when we've gone. Lots of disabled friendly crossings, pedestrianised areas, great if using a wheelchair/disability buggy. However don't go to Viva, that is were people go to ditch the kids and drink. It's a shame because the performers are really talented. Martin Mere is a good contrast.

We went quite a lot as little kids in the 80s and have such lovely memories of a simpler time..... it's obviously gone downhill since then but it didn't feel chavvy then...you don't notice those kind of things at that age in any case.... you're just living in the moment and enjoying the beach, the waves, picnics on the beach, donkey rides, the arcades, buying little treats, eating rock, going on the rides at the pleasure beach....and looking at the awesome Black pool illuminations in the Autumn. Nobody really holidayed abroad back then much (unless you were v well off). We loved our day trips to Blackpool. We've taken our kids a couple of times when they were small (for nostalgia's sake) and have enjoyed all the above plus going up the Tower and visiting Madame Tussauds....then staying overnight at the much posher Lytham St Anne's a couple of miles down the road.

Exactly. What a horrible snob your friend is....and how awful that her kids don't have those lovely memories. We purposefully didn't take our kids on expensive holidays abroad when they were little as it would've been a waste - kids take the good out of anywhere they go at that age and have absolutely lovely memories of cheaper camping holidays, day trips to Blackpool and short breaks to Llandudno and such like.

Why can't people just like what they like and we like something different and that's perfectly fine? We don't need to judge somebody enjoying something just because we wouldn't like it surely?
Blackpool wouldn't be my cup of tea for a holiday but we have visited for the illuminations and had a nice time. DD loved it and it's the one place she always asks to go back to.

If I had to pick between Blackpool and skeggy well skeggy would win.

I don’t mind a haven, park dean, Butlins or forest lodge holiday. I’ll even go camping. But I’m not going to Blackpool or Clacton.

Not counting a long weekend when I was 4 months old I have never been to Skegness.
I really want to go there for some reason. I like the idea of a very typical English seaside place.
Unfortunately I have read the train service to get there is a bit chaotic so I am not sure when I will eventually get there.

As long as you avoid Mondays and Fridays, you should ok. Mon and Fri is the Butlins changover day so its absolute bedlam.

I take your point, there's not many Scots who go to Blackpool. What other immigrants don't speak English? If you went you'd see people of colour, from all over the world. Women can get a shag anywhere. Ridiculous comment.

Have to switch at Grantham, I’ve heard it’s not too bad. Brings you out right by a Lidl and Morrisons.

I mean it’s definitely something you can buy vodka slushies and stuff on the beach 🤣 but it’s not quite Blackpool horror.

I nearly booked a little weekender at Butlins but decided to do a travel instead doing a few nights here and there hotel hopping up north.

DH grew up going to Blackpool every year. His parents would go on and on about it and why did we go abroad when we could go there (ironic as they also went abroad). So we paid for them to go on a long weekend, they would hardly speak about it and never suggested we went again. I can imagine it wasn’t the family friendly resort they remembered.
